Looking at few posts for some RE 6 did good numbers and for some it did bad.

I think looking at how games have been selling this year and with poor reviews and RE ORC, i actually think RE 6 Did well. It could had been worse as MoH as well/

Good numbers for any " normal game brand "

VERY bad for " a major chapter of Resident Evil for home console "

Even Medal of Honor did well. But its sequel has done terrible.

Another factor is 2 re game released this year which were too close to release.

The first being horrible and second getting terrible reviews , im pretty sure good chunk of people will rather buy re 6 during black friday etc

I don't think there's too much to worry about with XCOM on consoles. They've planted a flag in the console market to say that there's something there for people who want that type of game, so it's a seed for future interest in the series and genre. As well, it's something that never would be a front-loaded multi-million unit-needing release, so it should do well over time. They know their main platform is the PC, where XCOM gained the bulk of its reputation and popularity, but the console versions are inexpensive ports using a commodity engine. Might help raise awareness for that eventual tactical FPS release down the road, too.

Especially when this one is supposed to be, by far, the most expensive one they have ever produced and is the flagship franchise for the company. They've pushed away many fans with the focus on action over more tension-based game experiences in RE4 (and to an even greater extent, RE5), gained some new ones, but diluted the demand for the brand with two other major releases this year...two that also divided fans and didn't exactly set the world on fire, saleswise. Capcom has burnt out and otherwise whore'd out their big franchise. Then there are the movies and the general saturation of zombies in gaming, film, and television of the last decade. Of course, all of this doesn't change the fact that RE6, by itself, has really pushed the boundaries of what RE is to many, and its bad WOM and reviews only reflect that. Time to make new stuff, Capcom.

How's Vita?

Actually, both FM4 and Horizon still regularly chart in the UK, week after week, and that doesn't include bundled copies.

Horizon has been in the chart only two weeks. Not sure you can call that regular and it's already being bundled at Tesco, Sainsburys etc. ChartTrack counts bundles and FM4 is a popular pack in.

at last, for christ's sake
you know things are really shite when even ps3forums pretend data sales didn't happen this month/week

Imo, these top ten games lists are so predictable and boring. What is wrong with gamers today? This is why I am concerned about the future. Well, at least RE6 is second despite it's problems. Also, if Tekken Tag 2 really did sell over 800,000 units, why is it not in the top ten again? I suppose most of the sales are from Europe and Japan, right?

What happened to Horizon? Too soon to call?

Awesome sales in Europe?

Forza 3 only sold 175k in same time period in 2009, I'm not sure why it's a surprise it hasn't charted here. Forza Horizon can be probably about same or lower, when #10 is 269k.

It did outsell NFS MW on all platforms so far in UK but it's MW that is doing pretty poorly in first week not Forza selling exceptionally well.

Most impressive of all, though, was Take-Two's NBA 2K13, which sold 1.27 million units, around 48 per cent more than NBA 2K12 sold in the same period last year.

Didn't NPD say it was by 60%?

Those were the sales from europe and japan Yep

I think the videogame industry as a whole is experiencing this decline. Of course Vita bombed, but the rest of the consoles are like 25% worse than last year.

There's several points to be made about the possible reasons:

- Over-explotation of known franchises. New IPs are scarcer and scarcer each year. The industry has become so pasive and un-original it's scary. Imagine going to see a movie to the cinema and see all years Rambo, Rocky, The Godfather, you name it. There's a time to say: STOP. People want to play good games, not only the names. It could work for casual gamers, but long-term it's a wrong strategy to follow (i.e. Guitar Hero).

- Aligned with the previous point: over-growth of costs/development teams. In this quest for money, the big gaming companies have dedicated to each iteration of the known formulas (each franchise) more and more money to make it 'bigger'.

Paralell to these two points we see how indie gaming has been on the rise. Because a good game it's a good game. Sometimes people just want to play a good game. At least that how it was in the good old days (the videogame golden age) where the industry was growing like crazy.

I think what they need to do is lower the expectations, costs so they can bring new exciting development teams (small, creative, with few people) who can create games for the videogame consoles industry, and not only to PC / tables /mobile.

Why is RE6 being second something to be satisfied with?

Hardware sales decline is expected.

But software can do better then again, most games have been same old and disappointing.

Yeah, I'm just basing it on the fact that it's a niche Atlus game, and it's already better than what the Japanese game debuted at.
Though it does have a lot of voice acting, so it might have cost more.

Imagine what will happen if Atlus finds its profitable niche on 3DS in the US!

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I am not surprise that the market is down these console are in there 6th - 7th year and there price is outrageous .
Yes the mobile is growing but people are also tired of these set of consoles .
We need new hardware not only for power but for services and new IPs to get people excited again .

You ask what's wrong with "gamers" today and in the same post you say you're glad that RE6 is on second place. Oh the irony. Looks like you answered your question yourself.

Sony hubris in full effect. Instead of lowering the PS3's price with the super slim, they raised it. Brilliant.

I don't really think Sony or MS cares about market share to a degree .
It's all about making profit right now , we are 6 years into this gen market share don't mean as much .

Sony already has Vita that doing badly so best to make as much profit from PS3 .

That's pretty short term thinking. The momentum they have now and going forward is going to have a big impact on next gen.
