NPD Sales Results for April 2016 [Sony, MS, & Nintendo refuse to comment on hardware]

?

Xbox had one of their biggest releases and didn't win....

Not just that but also the effect of the price cut and promotions.
PS4 on the other hand had definetly a few people waiting for the Uncharted 4 bundles and those will be counted in May.
I don't know what's going to happen next month to the XB1 sales considering the price cut has (surprisingly) ended and they haven't bothered to make the usual free game promotion to counter Uncharted 4.
May should be a pretty rough month for XB1.

forgot about the price cut. i was too focused on the QB release. still kinda stunned with as big as a budget and the marketing push it got. solid game, too. really thought it would push some consoles

As per shinobi, I do feel it is a larger scale game. However I'm also confident it neither looks nor plays anything like the trailer suggested and people should at least wait until the game is revealed to be putting it forward in any kind of list wars.

I'm thinking the game will be closer to dead rising 3 than halo 5.

Them not showing any gameplay of a game that was to release pretty soon (Originally had a spring release) only to then delay it set off red flags in my mind. Of course I could be complely wrong. I hope I am wrong.

What does this even mean? Are you just talking budget?

Are MS doing any promotions this month? I know there are a few retailers ones, but MS should probably just ride this month out and try and get some profits instead of doing another temporary drop.

Given what you wrote, isn't that precisely the reason the poster is considering it a bomb?

April isn't a huge month for game sales and QB is still at #7.

Personally, it would be a dissapointment if QB only ended up pulling around Alan Wake numbers.

Thus the detractors would argue it should have been even higher.

It's unlikely to make much profit so in that sense it is a bomb

It wound up about where I thought it would personally.

Yup.

I guess some solace is QB did at least chart....(Rise of the Tomb Raider am cry)

I guess Dark Souls, Ratchet, and Quantum Break aren't as good system sellers as Mortal Kombat. Not too surprising really. Now to see if the 3DS continues its over-performance relative to expectations streak.

Could GTA V fuck around and end up being the best selling game two gens in a row?

dang, I dunno. How much has it sold this gen?

Is it well over 10 or 15 mil?

edit:
wait, it wasn't the best selling game last gen...

$9 BILLION hours?!?!

Thats fucking crazy. Lets say that every user played a million hours of Quantum Break, thats like 9000 copies of QB on PC alone.

That aint too shabby.

Stealth best post?

You know what, the mods can delete this post if they want.

Thanks to a good source

PS4 - 175k
XB1 - 168k
WIU - 32k
360 - 13k
PS3 - 4k

Dang, you said hardware numbers so I expected to see the 3rd selling console...and not 3 irrelevant ones ;)

Summer's gonna be rough for them.

Not to be all pessimistic, but outside of this October, I think the rest of this console's life looks bad at this point.

A year ago I thought PS4 would sell 90-100 million and XB1 would get close to 50.

If it weren't for the looming PS4k to cannibalize the numbers I would stick with my PS4 prediction, but XB1 won't come close

Oh yeah, more info on Gen 7 thanks to the original source.

360 April 2015 - 25,300
360 April 2016 - 12,500

PS3 April 2015 - 28,000
PS3 April 2016 - 3,700

360 Jan-April 2015: ~181k
PS3 Jan-April 2015: ~181k

2016 is incomplete because we are still missing January's sales.

Not sure why people are buying consoles before E3. I would hold out for info on NEO and a potential new XBOX before buying. If those hit, second hand market prices will drop because of an influx of supply from people trading up.

Kind of surprised that the PS3 was as high as it was for April '15. And that 2016 number is just dismal.

Because the vast majority of people don't follow internet rumors about video games, that's why.

More importantly, it also had a $50 temp price cut for April and a trade-in deal and it still wasn't enough.

Yep cusumers see more value in the PS4 despite its higher price. It's like the WiiU despite is lower price cusumers don't see much value in it compared to X1 or PS4.

Year to Date 2015

PS4 ~1035k
Xbox One ~842k
Wii U ~283k

Year to Date 2016

PS4 ~1140k [Up 10%]
Xbox One ~789k [Down 6%]
Wii U ~207k [Down 27%]

Is it recore? Though I still think that it is a smaller metroidvania game and that is the reason why no gameplay has been shown yet. But I don't care if it is true I love those kinds of games.

ReCore will be a bigger action game and will have the honor of filling another Microsoft Games Studio new IP coffin when it releases this year or next.

Maybe I'm wrong here but shouldn't it be expected that PS4 numbers would drop due to all of the news about the PS4K leaking? If I were in the market for a console and I knew there was a new model coming I would most likely hold off until it's released. I guess I'm just not that surprised that the PS4 is down currently with all that information out there despite Sony not commenting on any of it.

(Edit) I see I'm not the only one that thought this.

Some are like my son, who doesnt care about the Neo. He just wants to play some PS4 games right now. His cousin is having issues with the XBO and the controllers not being recognized by USB and is thinking about trading it in for a PS4. He also doesnt care about the Neo or XBO.5

Me? I'm trying my best to wait. Since his XBO is having issues I cant even go over there and play SO anymore... :-(

It got released for the wrong console. No, I dont mean it was made for the PS4 or WiiU, I mean that it was supposed to be for the TV, TV, TV Xbox one.

Once Microsoft abandoned that and stopped trying to get that audience on board, quantum break just seemed like a less attractive product in my view.

I, much like many other people, enjoyed ratchet. This breathes new life into it and pretty much guarantees another one. I just hope they follow the formula. This really does feel like the ps2 era.

PS4K is just a rumor at this stage. Nothing has been confirmed and things have also calmed down a lot after a couple of weeks of talking, right now people are more focused on playing the games that are being released right NOW.
Also sales are not down at all, for this month they have been flat.
April is also traditionally a slow month and there's the impact of the Uncharted 4 release and associated hardware bundle to gauge next month.
So atm there's nothing to realistically suggest that PS4K rumors had an impact on PS4 sales.

No because nobody gives a shit outside of hardcore forum dwellers. this is why all these people that are supposedly moving to PC gaming are nothing more than statistical error. Their outrage means nothing in the face of potential sales.
