Not really. At face value you could look at it and say that it's selling a lot of $400 units every month, assume a profit on every unit, and be happy at the end of the day.

Unfortunately it's not as simple as that, relies on the razor and razor blade model, and it appears to be failing at being able to take advantage of that model. The razors have been selling at a such a huge loss for so long that it would take a huge upswing in the sale of razor blades to make up for it. That upswing is too large to ever happen.

Edit: The same razor/razor blades comparison applies to Microsoft's system, but as a company, Microsoft is much more capable of soaking up losses in this enterprise.

A 'clusterfuck' is exactly what it's going to be if these 3rd party games with Motion + come out and Motion + ... doesn't. This is really something Nintendo needs to get right - it's a huge transition for their userbase and they should make damned sure it runs smoothly.

If you grew up with SF2 on the SNES, you would probably have moved onto the PS1 and PS2 in the later generations.

I've got to disagree with this. Anybody that was seriously into 2D fighters had a Saturn because it was the only place to get arcade-perfect conversions (or even close i.e. Xmen vs. SF, etc.). It had far better arcade ports and a far better controller for SF. After the Saturn, they all picked up DCs to play SFIII, MvsC, etc.

Now I'm not saying that they didn't also have the PS1/2 as well, but if you were any kind of enthusiast, those were the go-to consoles, not the PS family. After the DC died, then they had to choose. But it would still weaken the argument that the PS consoles were the home of 2D fighting fans for multiple generations.
