Anyway, over/under on months until Iwata is shown the door? Does he make it through the fiscal year?

Probably. I'd guess he's out in April or May, simply because of how he's wasted two Holiday seasons and let the Wii U stagnate. I'm not sure who takes over, but hopefully they can instill new life into the Wii U and into Nintendo as a whole.

Black Friday sure saved the vita last year, didn't it?
Hint: black Friday sales only work for products people actually want to buy

This is true, though I would point out that Nintendo systems usually bump even more than others for the holiday's.

Not saying it will happen in this case- I suspect Nintendo will not have the shelf space to do healthy numbers.

Vita is finished in west. There isn't nothing that Sony can do at this point.

Yeah, I guess it's like asking them to squeeze blood from a stone. I understand the console is dead, I just hope to see support, of any kind. Because I own this thing . . . lol.

What kind of Black Friday specials are there?

There is absolutely no Wal Mart special. Not even a gift card. I believe Toys R Us has a Skylanders bundle for 260?

Also the absolute minumum shoud be 225k considering Vita sold that last year. If Wii U with Nintendo Holiday Power and 3D World can't beat that than.......god. I would think 300k should be the target with a 500-600k December.

I hope SM3DW has some effect, it looks Amazing.

Wasn´t the Wii U < 30k previous to September. Almost double of that is still really bad but at least something. I hope it can get close to 100k at least for non holiday months. November-December is do or die for Wii U.

lol those vita numbers..treat it like shit and it will sell as such..SCEA is has been a joke in the way it handled the system

wiiu is ..well wiiu. Iwata smoked some good shit when those forecasts for the system were made

If he is replaced, it'll almost certainly be a Japanese man in his 40s or 50s from within the company. May not be as different as people are expecting.

Wow at those Sonic sales. Even considering the platform(s), that's awful.

I get increasingly uncomfortable with the Wii U at each passing month. We're probably going to see third party support take an exponential nosedive come January.

Without any hyperbole (please) what kind of numbers would we need to be looking at for Nintendo to consider pulling the plug on the whole thing? I think month to month sales will still go up over the next year+, but I wonder if that'll be enough for them.

They have no option now. They have to start shipping these things with classic controllers in order to get the price down and rebrand the console. The writing is on the wall.

I thought more people would have bought a Vita because of the PS4. Maybe they are holding out for Amazon type sale like last year.

That simply won't happen. Abandoning the primary control device would be suicide. They need games, marketing, and leadership, all three of which are lacking right now.

I don't think the Wii U drop is that bad. September was a five-week month, and October was uneventful, so I don't find the drop particularly dramatic.

Don't worry guys, Wii U will sell 4 million next month in order to meet Iwata's projection of 9million this fiscal year.

The sad part is, apparently some employees at Nintendo think this is possible (why else would he say it), without advertising the system in a heavy fashion?

I mean, they apparently thought that advertising the 2DS in October with a TV ad, was more important than advertising the Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle and price drop...

The Wii U's weekly sales have decreased compared to Sept, but still double its yearly average.

Nintendo needs advertising to increase awareness. I hope those ads work for them.

No shelf space is one thing, no advertising either. There's a fixed amount of tv, radio, print advertising space available and all of it is going to be WILDLY expensive and taken up completely by next gen. Even the media will be talking next gen and PS vs Xbox.

Also the fact that Nintendo seems allergic to substantial Wii U advertising in the first place.

At least 100K.
100k? Wouldn't that be more than September, even though September was a 5 week month, and had a bundle/price cut? I mean sure, 100k would be good, but it would be pretty unrealistic as well.

I don't really think the PS4 will spur Vita sales much.

SCEA has spent $0 marketing the platform and the games this entire year, so that shouldn't be a surprise.
No doubt. I mean they don't even bother releasing bundle of their new games. Killzone was bundled with a VITA in Europe and Tearway is getting the same treatment. Nothing on the US side -_-

Nah, yearly average is like 12k a week.

Average this month is 14k.

Wii U will be lucky to do 300K in November. 600K in December. I can't bring myself to type lower numbers, but I probably should. It's over.

Anyway, over/under on months until Iwata is shown the door? Does he make it through the fiscal year? I have a feeling one of the reasons they didn't revise shipment projections is that he would be asked to submit his resignation along with the revision. He's dragging it out hoping for a miracle.

I hope he has been paid well and has managed his investments. He helped take Nintendo to great heights in the late aughts, but they've frittered it all away and now it's time for change.

Is there really some kind of fetish for fantasizing about Iwata being pushed out onto the street with a box containing his desk's contents?

Consider the various areas of expertise that Iwata does represent, I would think it more sensible that rather than resign and quit the company he would suggest a major reorganization. Then take another position in either the Japanese mothership, or fully come to the US, where he could still do a lot of good with software development and internal initiatives.

I wish Sony and Micorosft waited and released their new consoles NEXT year and simply did legitimate price drops on the current consoles if they were that worried about the drop off in sales.

Wii u is gonna get slaughtered in November.

This. There's no way the WiiU outsells the PS4, 360, or PS3 in November, nor will it outsell them or the XB1 in December. People expecting Mario to somehow trump the hype of new systems plus the cheap allure of older more popular consoles are going to be disappointed.

We're approaching the Holidays, and Wii U had a game last month (Wii Party U), unlike in September.

PSV < 30k < Wii < 40k < 50k < Wii U < 60k < 100k < PS3 < 120k

Last month:
Wii U - 95K - 5 weeks - 19,000 average weekly sales

This month:
Wii U - <60K - 4 weeks -
12,500 minimum average weekly sales
15,000 maximum average weekly sales

Wii U historical average weekly sales ranking, post holiday 2012:

1) September 2013 - 19,000 average weekly sales
2) February 2013 - 16,500 average weekly sales
3 or 4) October 2013 - 15,000 maximum average weekly sales
3 or 4) March 2013 - 13,500 average weekly sales
3 or 4) October 2013 - 12,500 minimum average weekly sales
5) January 2013 - 11,000 average weekly sales
6) April 2013 - 9,000 average weekly sales
7) June 2013 - 8,500 average weekly sales
8) May 2013 - 8,000 average weekly sales
9) August 2013 - 7,500 average weekly salaes
10) July 2013 - 7,000 average weekly sales

Basically, it's better than the Wii U's lowest figures, but it's still par the course for terrible (it's lower than September 2013, February 2013, and possibly March 2013).

And it's so close to the holiday season, too. :-(

For those wondering Sonic Generations 3DS did 20k it's first NPD. Now it's over 400k.

I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I don't see much hope for the Wii U SKU at all.

Meanwhile the 3DS will probably sell 2-3 million in the U.S. in the holidays, more in Japan, and 1 million in Europe, and they'll have an outside chance of actually reaching their projection for 3DS.

Iwata's a flawed CEO, but yeesh. You'd think Nintendo only sold the Wii U if you just read this post.

Nothing can be worse than what is happening right now. It's not like the old users would be abandoned, the pad can still do basically everything the classic controller can.

It seems like Nintendo abandoning the Wii U and let it flounder for most of the year was a stupid mistake. I get that they had no software to release but it seems like people don't even know the console exists.

The idea that they were gonna focus their marketing for the Christmas period was a sound idea but is it me or have they not even ramped up the marketing at all. Do they even care how shitty the console is selling or have they just given up while trying to put up a strong face.

There should be Wii U commercials every damn break during this Sundays Broncos/Chiefs game, and same for next week with the Pats/Broncos. Lots of people will be watching those games. I guess they can't do that since Xbox One is the official sponsor of the NFL. Either way they should be looking for other avenues to market the console or else this Christmas season won't mean a damn thing for the Wii U.

No, but several games would no longer work with the system if it lacked a Game Pad.
