that in all honesty is over simplifying it really. At the end of the day, different strokes for different folks. Some like to have the extended functionality offered by one while others like to have higher resolution.

Currently if we are being honest, it is what it boils down to really. Functionality wise the crown as of this writing goes to the Xbox One, resolution/performance will always go to the PS4.

Lets not be naïve either, while Microsoft as company is extremely profitable, if for some reason the Xbox brand stops showing signs of life there is only so much money you can throw at it before you have Investors rioting outside your headquarters.

Very true. Investors (some) have shown discontent at the gaming division. Just because the parent company makes money doesn't mean it will keep giving an allowance to the teenager who won't do their chores.

Then again given the change in leadership not just in the Xbone Division with Phil, but with the new CEO along with the refocused vision of Microsoft as a whole, it gives a lot of leeway to fiddle and quiet possibly extends the acceptance of any negative performance that occurs in hopes of future benefits through the new vision established.

Clearly PS4 has the stronger mindshare. It is more desirable a platform to more people.

To answer the why of the matter would be to focus on its strengths.

• Positive PR
• Notably stronger system, received relatively large exposure [resolution-gate etc.]
• Smart Co-marketing with Destiny, Watch Dogs, Diablo 3 etc.
• Cheaper price initally to start the ball rolling while again being more powerful
• Camera as optional accessory at first

PS4 likely has strong mindshare built up over the whole year or so since launch.
