So I missed out on the 3080 launch. Then I realized my 2070 is still ok. Now with the economy not looking good as it was over a year ago, I think I'm ok waiting for further price drop.

You know what..I have been thinking about it. My new rig's final parts arrive tomorrow and all I need is a GPU. Been looking for a 4090 now for 3 weeks in a row...been off due to an injury so had plenty of time to look for one. I have now in stock and another program that alerts me and so far nothing. There was some stock on newegg today but of course by the time i looked they were gone....but there were 3-4 different 4080's available. The hard part for me is that for a few hundred more I get a lot more performance with a 4090. Wish there would be a nice big drop of 4090's.

There were a number of factors that pushed me towards just grabbing the 4080:

• I currently have a 750w PSU, would need to upgrade it if I got a 4090
• The 4080 I managed to get (and it was the only one I wanted) is smaller than all of the 4090's with the exception of the liquid cooled ones and fits my current case - no case upgrade required
• The price delta between the cheaper 4080s and the cheapest 4090s where I live is ~$500
• On the AMD side there will be no AIB cards for their new models this year apparently, and for my use case it won't end well since they have not added support for the codecs the quest 2 needs.
• The only 4090 I would have got if it were available is the msi liquid suprim because that would have only required a power supply upgrade in addition, not also a case upgrade. That card has been impossible to find in stock at a reasonable price. I've seen it for upwards of $2500.

So that left me with either getting a 3080/ti or what I've ended up going for. Considering the cheapest new 3080 in my country is still over $800 and $900 for the ti variant it would be foolish to spend that much on a last gen card having waited for so long. I've had the money set aside for what feels like forever now and the Witcher 3 next gen launches soon so it will immediately be put to good use.

For me, from the card I'm coming from and for what I'll be using it for it makes sense, but I can understand why most other people are critical of the current prices, especially if they are currently sitting on a higher end 3xxx series card.

Overpaid for a car at the start of the year. Have loved every single one of my 10,000 km driving the tits off it so far. Going to the drag strip in a couple of weeks and hope to run sub 11.5s or close enough, back seats and the spare are being taken out if necessary.

Will do it again.

Supply and demand sets these prices.

If no one buys these 4080s prices will eventually fall but you saw the lines for the 4090s, demand was crazy even at that price

And according to the latest posts on the official Nvidia forums their latest drivers seem to have somehow made the situation even worse.

For their new cards they have put an emphasis on AV1 but that changes nothing for link with the quest 2 since it's not a supported codec on the device.

If there is a miraculous fix/change that gets revealed next week then I'll be more than pleasantly surprised but I'm not holding my breath.

Honestly one of the most bizarre exchanges I've had on here. I get that it's difficult times for some people at the moment but that shouldn't mean everyone else should put their lives on hold.
