Its actually pretty easy especially if you already have Dolphin setup on your computer. I only tried Wind Waker and it looked really sweet. Games that are locked at 30fps almost look like they're running native on the Shield
Banjo Kazooie is much better than I remembered it. Such a fun game.
SuperN64 runs it flawelessly except when you get a Jigsaw, or when you put Jigsaws to open gates outside of the worlds it goes black but it don't matter as the former is just a little cutscene and the latter you can just hit the Z button for the pictures then walk out.

It's not when you get a Jigsaw, just right after the cutscene plays the screen goes black for 2 seconds. You can still see Banjo's little dancey.

Have you tried mupen64 to see if it does the same (hopefully save files can be moved from one emu to the other)?

Okay. GAF lied to me. PSP emulation isn't (very) good on the Shield.
It's not as good as it could be, it's still a work in progress. It does run some games.

Well PPSSPP is still a WIP so I imagine it improving over time. Its not as perfect as older/weaker systems being emulated but I believe some games are playable.Okay. GAF lied to me. PSP emulation isn't (very) good on the Shield.

Not that the program isn't an awesome job. But by reading the post here I thought that the emulation was much better than the current state. But i guess I should expect a bit of hyperbole by now when it comes to this kind of topics.
'Very good' as in the Shield represented a legit platform to play PSP games, which it isn't.
Edit: I first wrote that as 'PSP emulation isn't good', but I felt that it wasn't right for me to write that, since this emulator is clearly an excellent job by the developers so far, so I weakened the statement a little.
Anyway, is kinda telling that the emulated Pure looks much better than most native android games. Too bad it only runs at 45% of full speed.
I have a Vita and 3DS as well so haven't really bothered attempting DS or PSP emulation on the device...I've enjoyed immensely playing SNES/GBA games on the thing though. They look FAR better than playing them on the 3DS/Wii. It's honestly kind of hard to play the 3DS back to back with the Shield as the Shield's controller is just so damn comfortable.

Haven't tried, but the issue ain't that bad but I could give that a shot since they both are the same emulator just with different tweaks.

Before I quit FFXIV a few days ago, I use to play it on my shield just fine. Just be sure to set the game to full screen 720p. Everything reads crisps just like on a monitor.
The screen is an IPS screen.

I just got married and I'm looking for ways to play games from my steam backlog while my wife watches TV, etc.
All I've streamed so far is Dolphin emulator and FFXIV. I would be streaming Phantasy Star Online 2, but I'm waiting for the 60 FPS later this month.
But yeah, the Gamecube/Wii emulator called Dolphin runs great on this too surprisingly. If you want to set yours up to play it too, (or any game you want), follow this guide.
1. Go to your Steam directory and find Steam.EXE in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam".
2. Right click Steam.EXE and go to Properties.
3. Go to compatibility tab and make sure all compatibility modes, including in all user settings, are UNCHECKED.
4. On Steam itself, add a non-steam game and just add Dolphin.EXE from your folder.
5. Now that it's added to steam, connect to your PC in the Shield Menu then select Steam.
6. Now go to your games lists and find "dolphin" and start it up. It'll appear on both screens. Just click a game and walla, you're playing a Gamecube on a portable.
Notes:
1. Before connecting your PC to the shield, make sure your PC has completely booted up if you've restarted or else you'll connect before some Nvidia processes are ready.
2. If it doesn't work, reboot your computer.
3. Add the steam directory in Geforce Experience if Steam doesn't show up
Now although I do stream these, what I mainly use the device for is emulation. This device is powerful enough to play N64 and PS1 games flawlessly (if the emulator itself is good enough). Here are some emulators where you can play anywhere without having to stream.
Keep in mind that PPSSPP is a work in progress and although some games run smooth, a l may not on Android. You can, however, get PPSSPP for windows and stream that to the device.

Oh, I did. lol that was an old pic. I used my extra 3DS screen cover for the screen now and it fits perfectly.
So I bought the Shield yesterday, and while I love the device I'm noticing some washed out colors / artefacts on the screen. It's as if the picture is compressed before being sent over WiFi.
I also noticed that the thumbstick don't register movement unless you move them passed a certain threshold.
Am I the only one noticing this ?

I connected my Shield to the 5Ghz band, it's the only device running on that frequency. I also connected my PC through ethernet directly to my router.
I'm not sure if it's network related or anything. Maybe I'm just crazy and there's nothing wrong with the image, but I can clearly see it being "compressed". As if you look at a .JPG with the blacks washed out (i.e.: you see diagonal lines).
It's hard to explain, I wish I could take a picture.

Dolphin looks pretty sweet on the Shield. I've only tried gamecube games on Dolphin (so I don't have to deal with wiimote mappings) but IMO they look even better than native because of the increased internal resolution. Not sure about a rooted Shield yet but with my phone, one of of the nice things I'm able to do after rooting is move data/obb files over to the sd card (saving up a ton of internal storage space especially if I move games over). I can also use the sixaxis app to pair a dualshock 3 controller via bluetooth to my phone. I'm guessing the same things should be possible once you root your Shield.

Hard to say. I have both epsxe and fpse on my shield, and I use them both. FPSE feels more user friendly, but I have problems getting settings to stick for some reason. Then there's games like FF9 that just don't seem to run properly (apparently it's fixed by changing the rendering mode or something), and when I change the settings to make that work, it inevitably breaks another game.
With epsxe, I haven't noticed many problems. Most stuff works and runs great as soon as I load it, with minimal tweaking. But by far my favorite feature of epsxe, is that I can create individual shortcuts to ps1 games that I can launch from the android launcher.
But either emulator is pretty good, but if I had to decide, I'd be leaning towards epsxe.

Seriously thinking about getting this. Slightly confused though, i intially though only the games in the OP could be streamed but according to this page emulators can be streamed too. What can actually be streamed? Also, is having at least a 650 absolutely necessary?

I was dead set on it until I picked it up in a store and played all the demo games for 10 minutes.
The shape and controls put me off it when I tried GTA, Conduit and Sonic. They work fine but they are really stiff and tight. The body is slightly too large too. I imagine they are suitable for larger handed folks but not me.
On the other hand, performance was absolutely stellar and the screen is excellent. The fastest Android device I have ever used.

It says "To see if your PC is ready for GAMESTREAM, install GeForce Experience and click on the My Rig tab", but i go there and can't see gamestream mentioned anywhere? I've got a 5Ghz router, but not one from the official list. Streaming seems unchanged from before the update so far.
There's a set of games that are considered "officially compatible" and that's the list of games you see. But also, you can stream "uncompatible" games by launching steam big picture mode on the shield. Games aren't all guaranteed to run perfectly (most of the problem games have issues detecting the shield controller), but a good chunk work fine.
Because of this, any steam shortcut you make to a non-steam app, will also stream. So if you make a shortcut to the Dolphin emulator, you can stream that. But for the emulators emulating less powerful systems (think PS1 and below), you don't need to stream, and you can run the emulators directly through android.
But yea, there some hardware requirements for streaming. You do NEED a 600 or 700 series nvidia card. I can't say for certain off the top of my head if the 650 is supported though, but it might not be. And if you haven't bought a new wireless router recently, you'll likely have to upgrade that, as you'll need a Wireless AC router for streaming.
It's expensive as all hell if you're starting from scratch, but if you have the hardware, or were planning on getting the hardware anyway, then it's definitely worth it.

Game mapper, 60fps streaming and console mode. Fantastic update. I'm really happy to see Nvidia working hard to bring out the full potential of the shield. So many cool gadgets seem to get abandoned post launch if they aren't a massive success.
