Whatculture said it best:

On Thursday night, NXT will hold its fourth “special event,” (R)Evolution, on the WWE Network. The previous three two-hour events have been well received by fans and critics alike and have been a bright spot of original programming on the Network. In many cases, NXT’s events have outshined the WWE PPVs that have taken place right after them.
A variety of factors have made these NXT Takeover events successful: There typically are two to three months to set up the feuds, so they are well-developed; The angles are usually pretty direct, simple and easy to follow; and the events themselves are two hours long, which means that there is far less filler and brisker pacing. Contrast this with WWE’s monthly PPVs with feuds being set up in four weeks and then dragged out for two or three months at three-hour PPVs that include backstage hijinks and in-ring promos.
That’s a large reason why many wrestling fans who subscribe to the Network enjoy catching NXT, and Thursday’s special event provides an opportunity for some really good in-ring action to close out 2014, including one match that could end up being a Match of the Year contender.

Sasha deserved to win the title long before Ric Flair III. Hopefully she does(though she also deserved to be called up before Charlotte which goes against her winning the title)

I'm confident THE BOSS will get it. Charlotte's ready and in my mind Sasha is as well but I wager they'll want a reign with her for a while. They're low on heels.

KILL OWENS KILL!?!?

Super jacked for this show as I legit want to watch every match on this card. Zayn/Neville will be amazing and I expect a Steen appearance during this. Balor/Itami gonna dominate the Ascension and hopefully Itami brings some KENTA level disregard for human life here. Also love the Dragons and it will be fun to see how they match up with the Vaudevillains.

Wish i could catch this live, but i'm gonna have to settle for the second run after i get home.

card is good but missing some names. No Kidd, no Breeze, no Enzo, no Bayley, and no Mojo. There's always unannounced matches though. Also, you forgot to mention that Corey Graves has a big announcement on the pre-show!

Why's Kenta in there? Did he need deprogramming?

He's gotta adjust. Wouldn't want another Mistico situation. And it's showed, too, because he looked off for his first several matches

Sasha looks like a fish from Finding Nemo.

The Ascension are just god-awful. They're fine as the monster tag team who squash jobbers every week, but as part of a feud intended to make other people look good? Nah, they ain't got it. Also, KENTA needs to stop giving a fuck about these fuck's welfare and start laying it in with his strikes - it's sad seeing him so neutered in the ring. Devitt looks and sounds like more of a star, so far.

Nailing it once again.

If Kenta can get more freedom and wail on dudes, him and devitt can really show what domination is all about.

Steen is in wwe? Where have I been. Steenerico needs to happen at some point which means it won't. :/
The fact that generico has a title match the same day steen debuts tells me they will have some type of feud.

Or I'm just being hopeful.

Not that hyped for the card outside of the main event, but that works for me. I went in with similar expectations for the last one and that turned out great.

I don't think the womens match will live up to the last two special events, I can't tell if Itami/Balor need a longer match, more time to adjust or just not be stuck with the Ascension.

Lucha Dragons and Vaudevillians should be fun if not out of this world, but that main event... HNNNGGGGG.

The promo's so far didn't really give me the idea Steen will work as a heel, but then again, the narrative of "everyone came in before me, even though I was around longer and was just as good as them" could easily be fuel for a feud.

Still, I don't think Sami vs. Steen is going to be the first feud out of the gate for either guy.

That's kinda what I was thinking with the whole pointing out everyone that got called up before him.

Haven't watched in a long while, Finn Balor and Hideo Itami are such WWE name generator names.

Actually they got to chose their own names.

KENTA spoke about his goals and revealed that his name was chosen as a sign of tribute to his hero, who he didn’t name, he is changing his name to Hideo Itami.

Devitt wrestles under the ring name Finn Bálor, which is derived from the Irish mythological figures Fionn mac Cumhaill and Bálor, with the latter also meaning ‘Demon King’.

Speaking of Finn here's a new interview with him for anyone not familiar with him.

Full Interview: The Score

The Irish wrestler who’s living the dream in WWE

nxt_09252014ej_1527-390x285.jpg

A snippet:
At the relatively late age of 33 (10 years older than his hero Shawn Michaels was when he began with the company), Devitt officially joined WWE last July and despite its ostensible inevitability, he is in no way blasé about becoming part of the world’s biggest and most famous wrestling promotion.

“It’s kind of like the culmination of 14 years hard work,” he says.
“At the beginning, I just wanted to have a wrestling match, and I did that in England. I just took it step by step and to be here in WWE — it’s a real feeling of achievement. But now that I’m here, I want to achieve more. So this is the beginning of a whole new chapter for me.
“It’s been an incredible experience so far and I’m just looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.

“WWE is the biggest wrestling company in the world, and it is that for a reason.”
Devitt has signed with NXT, WWE’s developmental branch, located in Winter Park, Florida and the Irish athlete has been highly impressed by the company in the short time that he’s spent there.
“The coaches here include Billy Gunn, Matt Bloom, Norman Smiley and Terry Taylor… So there’s just a wealth of experience to learn from.

“It’s really been like the floodgates have opened for me. The amount I’ve learned in the last three or four months here has surpassed what I learned in the past three or four years before that.”
Devitt wrestles under the ring name Finn Bálor, which is derived from the Irish mythological figures Fionn mac Cumhaill and Bálor, with the latter also meaning ‘Demon King’.

The up-and-coming star hopes to make the step up to an even bigger stage in the WWE eventually, but for now, he is more than content with his rate of progress.
“I take it each day as it comes. Our next pay-per-view is Thursday, and we have myself and Hideo Itami against the Ascension. My next target is that match really.”

Balor will wear bodypaint on this show. Bet on it. It would be silly and ruin the impact if he wore it every single week on the TVs.

The Ascension are just god-awful. They're fine as the monster tag team who squash jobbers every week, but as part of a feud intended to make other people look good?

That they were a monster tag team who squashed everyone - not just jobbers - is why Balor and Itami will look good when they kill them. I'm also of the opinion that they're rather good and have had a number of good matches - and have still remained popular with the crowd even when facing WWE's two hottest debutants - but that's another story.

I really, really hope nothing like that happens. I don't think it will either. Owens could betray Zayn, his "best friend," but that would make no sense, having no build - particularly if it ended Zayn's career. He could help Zayn but that would be ridiculously heelish and Zayn is a born face and Owens is only just debuting. It's best he keeps out of that for now.

Balor & Itami will look good if the match is good and I have zero faith in the Ascension delivering. Also, they're still popular because of a damn noise Konnor makes when he stomps people. That might fly with the NXT crowd, but I severely doubt their popularity will make the transition to RAW.

I guarantee you it won't. Mostly because WWE don't give a rats ass about tag-team wrestling most days.

There's only so many times you can do Uso's vs. Ascension before the crowd just uses it as a good time to go the concession stand.

So... how the hell are Bull Dempsey and Baron Corbin supposed to have a match? Bull at least has a moveset, but Corbin's got two moves, one of which is his finisher which I don't think is physically possible to do on a man of Dempsey's size. Is that the match where Owens does a run-in so they don't have to do a finish? Or so they don't have to do the match, I guess?

The first 40 seconds of that Lucha Dragons fight with the guy in a mask is rubbish stuff. The kid is acrobatic but he missed one spot, botched another and the moves were telegraphed seconds out. I'll be honest, I haven't watched NXT before, and I haven't watched WWE more than once or the twice since about 2003, so not sure if this is like a youth league or whatever.

I do like the more intimate setting though. The WWE has needed a shakeup for years and this is along the right track.

Yeah, NXT is the WWE's developmental territory - Kalisto isn't the most experienced guy out there and does tend to telegraph his spots wildly, but I think he also struggles much more than he did on the independents because the guys he's working with aren't as familiar with the lucha style as they should be. I think Kalisto will really come into his own as a singles wrestler, especially if he can work with the likes of Zayn, who he's had amazing matches with in the past outside of WWE.

Stating the obvious: Kalisto is reminiscent of a young Rey Mysterio. Not just in as much as they're both luchadores; they have similar statures, builds, demeanours, athletic ability and even (literal) babyfaces. They also both have convoluted finishers, which I appreciate isn't really a feature of young Rey Mysterio, but, you know...

Edit: And I suppose Mysterio had Guerrero, Malenko and Jericho to work with. Kalisto could similarly benefit from time with Zayn, Neville, Owens et al. He's probably wrestled some of them on the indies already.

Take uniqe looking guys from the indies and strip any originality from them. Its the WWE way.

I dont know why they almost always reset talent to default CAW states when they sign because it seems like having a mask or unique paint is a great way to get over with people

I can't wait. NXT is really a good show. I do hope a few things happen.

Sammy has to go over on Neville. Beating all the top guys and almost winning two weeks ago.Problem is if they call these guys up, there's a hole in the upper card.

Charlotte loses to Banks and moves on to WWE. She's ready. That match was terrible on Raw and I don't care if she loses, but a three minute rollup??? Not sure what creative was thinking in that. Somebody should have pushed for more time

Balor and Hideo win. Acension reminds me of the gimmick era and generally suck. I could see them going to WWE due to terrible tag team division there.

Owens doing some nice work against someone.

Vaudevillians win. The pasty guy works a real nice classic heel style you don't see much.
Watch the last match they had see how they work a slower pace and work the body.

Corbin wins in 8 seconds..

NXT needs to incorporate another title like a TV title into their rotation.

I agree, if only to see at least one promotion out there, besides New Japan, with a secondary title that is worth a damn.

The ascension are terrible. How are they still employed?

How are they (main WWE spoilers)
the people on this card that are the first to get called up?
Is an even better question imo.
