If so, I'd be more worried about Trump and co. trying to do some destruction of evidence or something shady now. Seems a likely reason.

I assumed the Secret Service is supposed to log activity. Kind of like a social black box for the people they cover.

When those protectees are are being investigated by a special counsel for possible treason, and the personal life in question involves the regular purchase and use of controlled substances or some other obvious, blatant criminal behavior...yeah, I think law of averages would ensure an agent sooner or later at least willing to leak that kind of shit to NYT or something, sure.

House Of Cards was a fun show a couple years ago, but the current national narrative is a whole other animal. He's obviously got something to hide if having a handler 15 feet away in public and a guard outside a closed door is just too clingy for him.

I don't think everyone who has a public role has secret service protection, but things might have changed in the last decade. I believe, outside of the First Family, certain relatives, and the Chief of Staff that secret service protection is issued on an as-needed basis, such as in the case of death threats.

Donald Trump Jr.'s Secret Service detail restored, sources say

Donald Trump Jr.'s Secret Service protection has been reactivated, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

The President's son had previously requested his protection be scaled back, seeking more privacy.
By law, as an immediate family member of President Donald Trump, his son is authorized, but not required, to have protection.
It is not clear what prompted the move.

Previously, Trump Jr. had also requested to travel without protection during a family trip in June, which the Secret Service reluctantly approved.
Two sources who spoke on condition of anonymity previously told CNN that the Secret Service strongly pushed back on his request, but said it was "demanded" by Trump Jr. himself.

The Secret Service detail has been restored to what it was before, the sources said.

Wonder how many meetings he had regarding Russian orphans during that week without his secret service detail.
