What makes anybody think they actually listen to their attorneys? Every day it becomes more obvious that the only people Trump listens to are the voices in his head.

Interesting what he said about kompromat. If Putin ends up not happy with what Trump can offer him or Trump's influence dies then I'm guessing Putin would leak shit about these types of emails.

I don't think Putin will ever publicly admit to being the puppetmaster.

EDIT: But leaking it, yeah, I suppose that's an option.

But seriously, the fact that we have to clarify fake tweets shows just how far the oranges have fallen.

This whole family is playing 8th dimensional hold me beer. When you think something is just so fucking stupid to be possible, chances are it happened with this dumb as shit family.

So what about the meeting makes it illegal? Like which laws did he violate?

http://www.politifact.com/punditfac...ws-hosts-wrong-no-law-forbids-russia-trump-c/

Nathaniel Persily at Stanford University Law School said one relevant statute is the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002.

"A foreign national spending money to influence a federal election can be a crime," Persily said. "And if a U.S. citizen coordinates, conspires or assists in that spending, then it could be a crime."

Persily pointed to a 2011 U.S. District Court ruling based on the 2002 law. The judges said that the law bans foreign nationals "from making expenditures to expressly advocate the election or defeat of a political candidate."

Another election law specialist, John Coates at Harvard University Law School, said if Russians aimed to shape the outcome of the presidential election, that would meet the definition of an expenditure.

"The related funds could also be viewed as an illegal contribution to any candidate who coordinates (colludes) with the foreign speaker," Coates said.

To be sure, no one is saying that coordination took place. What’s in doubt is whether the word "collusion" is as pivotal as Jarrett makes it out to be.

Coates said discussions between a campaign and a foreigner could violate the law against fraud.

"Under that statute, it is a federal crime to conspire with anyone, including a foreign government, to ‘deprive another of the intangible right of honest services,’ " Coates said. "That would include fixing a fraudulent election, in my view, within the plain meaning of the statute."

Josh Douglas at the University of Kentucky Law School offered two other possible relevant statutes.

"Collusion in a federal election with a foreign entity could potentially fall under other crimes, such as against public corruption," Douglas said. "There's also a general anti-coercion federal election law."

In sum, legal experts mentioned four criminal laws that might have been broken. The key is not whether those statutes use the word collusion, but whether the activities of the Russians and Trump associates went beyond permissible acts.

DTJ already posted his inspiration for going to the meeting. Why does he need Mr. Jones to give him another out?

Huckabee already tried the "he's knew at this" defense, what's next?

I was listening to McConnell or Hatch on npr this morning. They said it very bad, but that Jared is new, Junior is new, and that's not how things are supposed to be done.

WASHINGTON — Amid a new round of revelations surrounding potential Russian involvement in the 2016 election, a bill ramping up sanctions on the Putin regime is stalled in the House of Representatives.

The bill is intended as a response to Russia's efforts to influence U.S. elections, as well as its continued provocations in Ukraine. It would increase penalties on Russian firms involved in cyberattacks and require congressional approval for the president to lift the sanctions in the future.

The bill, which passed the Senate almost unanimously, currently sits in the House, and both parties there are accusing each other of holding up its progress. The fight comes amid news that Donald Trump Jr. had been contacted with an offer from Russia of damaging information about Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign, according to emails the younger Trump released Tuesday.

Those messages show Trump Jr. agreed to meet with a Russian lawyer supposedly in possession of the damaging material as ”part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump." They also show that Trump Jr. forwarded the emails to campaign adviser Jared Kushner and then-campaign chief Paul Manafort, with both men attending the meeting.

Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., told reporters that the news increased the urgency of passing sanction legislation.

”There's no question that the United States needs to respond," Cardin said. ”I have contacted House members and urged them to take up and pass this bill quickly."

The White House has pushed back against the part of the bill requiring it to seek congressional approval to undo the sanctions, with top administration officials arguing that requirement overly constrains its ability to conduct foreign policy.

”Our concern is that the legislation, we believe, sets an unusual precedent of delegating foreign policy to 535 members of Congress by not including certain national security waivers that have always been consistently part of sanctions bills in the past," Marc Short, the White House's legislative director, told reporters Monday.

Because of this, the administration has been quietly lobbying Capitol Hill to amend the bill, with Commerce and State Department officials meeting with House staff last week. Other concerns have been raised that the bill would hamper U.S. investment in Russian energy projects, hurting American companies.

FUCKING SHAMELESS.

So what about the meeting makes it illegal? Like which laws did he violate?

Decent primer here for those of us not familiar with legalese:

http://electionlawblog.org/?p=93740

It is illegal for a person to solicit a contribution to a campaign from a foreign individual or entity. To solicit:

"means to ask, request, or recommend, explicitly or implicitly, that another person make a contribution, donation, transfer of funds, or otherwise provide anything of value. A solicitation is an oral or written communication that, construed as reasonably understood in the context in which it is made, contains a clear message asking, requesting, or recommending that another person make a contribution, donation, transfer of funds, or otherwise provide anything of value. A solicitation may be made directly or indirectly. The context includes the conduct of persons involved in the communication. A solicitation does not include mere statements of political support or mere guidance as to the applicability of a particular law or regulation."

(This is from another FEC regulation, incorporated by reference into the foreign contribution ban.)

In˚ two tweets, Donald Trump Jr. released an email chain that explains the meeting he had with the Russian lawyer to get ”dirt" on Hillary Cinton that has been the subject of the investigation. (He released them just as the NYT posted a story on them.)

Looking at the emails, it seems pretty serious. Trump Jr. got an email from his friend stating: ”Emin just called and asked me to contact you with something very interesting. The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father. This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump."

Trump Jr. replied almost immediately: ”If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer."

Hard to see how there is not a serious case here of solicitation. Trump Jr. appears to have knowledge of the foreign source and is asking to see it. As I explained earlier, such information can be considered a ”thing of value" for purposes of the campaign finance law. (Update: More on the meaning of ”thing of value" here and here.)

It is also possible other laws were broken, such as the laws against coordinating with a foreign entity on an expenditure. There could also be related obstruction, racketeering, or conspiracy charges, but these are really outside my area of specialization and I cannot say.

There are ways without officially acknowledging it.

Putin has basically won the lottery. Trump stays in office and causes chaos or Trump leaves office and chaos everywhere

Yup. He put himself in the best possible position, and the Americans (us) just went full on crazy.

It's actually kind of creepy to see Assange blatantly call the NYT the "enemy".

This.

I want something of substance outside of just "yooooooo how dumb can you be??" When this entire administration have proven how dumb, it's amounted to seemingly nothing.

Look up, there are at least two posts on this page with legal opinions.

Assange just completely exposed his ass today.

The sad thing is that a lot of people supporting him, including posters here who aren't necessarily trump fans, will shift the narrative to fit whatever ethical generosity they had previously applied to him rather than consider they might have been wrong about him and Wikileaks

I wish people didn't have so much trouble admitting they were wrong about something.

It's depressing, and causes so much horrendous crap that people would rather double down and do cartwheels than just say 'oh, shit, I didn't know'.

Just a reminder that CNN employs this woman.

Ignore this obvious proof of Russian collusion by one of our guys. Hillary was the one that colluded, because don't you just hate that biotch?

Seriously they need to get rid of these Trumpers, there is nothing being contributed but playing defense for the criminal activities of this administration.
