Asghar Farhadi's statement (he's an Oscar nominee this year):

I regret to announce via this statement that I have decided to not attend the Academy Awards Ceremony alongside my fellow members of the cinematic community.

Over the course of the past few days and despite the unjust circumstances which have risen for the immigrants and travelers of several countries to the United States, my decision had remained the same: to attend this ceremony and to express my opinions about these circumstances in the press surrounding the event. I neither had the intention to not attend nor did I want to boycott the event as a show of objection, for I know that many in the American film industry and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are opposed to the fanaticism and extremism which are today taking place more than ever. Just as I had stated to my distributor in the United States on the day the nominees were announced, that I would be attending this ceremony along with my cinematographer, I continued to believe that I would be present at this great cultural event.

However, it now seems that the possibility of this presence is being accompanied by ifs and buts which are in no way acceptable to me even if exceptions were to be made for my trip. I would therefore like to convey via this statement what I would have expressed to the press were I to travel to the United States. Hard-liners, despite their nationalities, political arguments and wars, regard and understand the world in very much the same way. In order to understand the world, they have no choice but to regard it via an “us and them” mentality, which they use to create a fearful image of “them” and inflict fear in the people of their own countries.

This is not just limited to the United States; in my country hardliners are the same. For years on both sides of the ocean, groups of hardliners have tried to present to their people unrealistic and fearful images of various nations and cultures in order to turn their differences into disagreements, their disagreements into enmities and their enmities into fears. Instilling fear in the people is an important tool used to justify extremist and fanatic behavior by narrow-minded individuals.

However, I believe that the similarities among the human beings on this earth and its various lands, and among its cultures and its faiths, far outweigh their differences. I believe that the root cause of many of the hostilities among nations in the world today must be searched for in their reciprocal humiliation carried out in its past and no doubt the current humiliation of other nations are the seeds of tomorrow’s hostilities. To humiliate one nation with the pretext of guarding the security of another is not a new phenomenon in history and has always laid the groundwork for the creation of future divide and enmity. I hereby express my condemnation of the unjust conditions forced upon some of my compatriots and the citizens of the other six countries trying to legally enter the United States of America and hope that the current situation will not give rise to further divide between nations.

He didn't just not mention them, he all-lives-mattered Jewish peeps on Holocaust Reemberance Day.

At this point I'm convinced we're not actually living this, this might be a collective nightmare or a Stranger than Fiction shit where we're living some fictional soft porn in which we all get fucked.

Both my parents are in that camp (were not racist but we vote trump because we're catholic). I visited for breakfast this morning and they both admit his choices are extremely worrysome and they regret voting for him.

Oh and their insurance is about to go to shit. They're worried about that too

He said from day 1 he would repeal the ACA, and they still voted for him. Why worry now?

It's so crazy to me that an actual racist is running the country right now and half of America just doesn't care... or worse, agrees with him.

It's not that crazy. I think everyone who lives in the US has always known that a huge part of the US has been and still is racist. This is the country of slavery remember. It's just that no candidate has ever been so plain about his racist and misogynistic beliefs and used them to appeal to that half of this country.

Honestly I know of no other country with such a large population of racist people.

This is unconstitutional you know if this was a democrat, republicans would be up in arms.

I'm a Republican, and I'm up in arms.

I hope more grow a spine. This is beyond unacceptable.

I hope they fight this tooth and nail for as long as it takes. It's unconstitutional, inhumane, racist, bigoted, and shameful to anyone belonging to the human race, regardless of whatever party you're affiliated with.

Good for you, seriously. I mean more in line of the senators. There's been I think 5 that have spoken up?

Did Bannon get all this power without a hearing or anything like that? Clearance? He didn't get a single vote and is now one of the most powerful people in the system. It's pretty scary.

Yeah, I was thinking that.

There's also very little accountability for those unelected individuals.

Trump really shows how lucky this country has been with our elected leaders.

Even a paranoid fuck like Nixon still respected the system somewhat. We're seeing how little checks and balances there actually are when a truly depraved person takes over.

Bannon was Trump's senior advisor during the campaign. His white nationalist background was well known. When people for voted for Trump he was part of the deal.

You guys are the only ones who can do anything right now. The house GOP is clinging to small arithmetic. Show them this is too much and an outrage. Let them understand the arithmetic is slipping.

Uh, wtf?

Can't wait until the next US civil war.

And how Trump seems to be pissing off Mattis over past day or two it could mean that DoD would step to side against Trump, in such terrible scenario.

Edit: EO causing possible security and operational issues. Joint Chiefs of Staff kicked out of NSC meetings

I have a feeling we're going to see a WHOLE LOT of this as this presidency progresses.

Maybe, but we'll also see a lot people remaining slight on things, and worse actively applauding. Don't be fooled into believing everyone has united together against Trump's policies because you're surrounding yourself with reasonable, or like minded people. There are plenty of people out there that believe what he's doing is the right thing, scary as that is.

Make sure you call your Republican Representatives and let them know that you hold them accountable for this. As a Republican, your voice should carry weight.

I look back fondly on times when I could debate Republicans on what the future of this country should be, right now, we all need to work together to make sure we have a future at all.

Been long 24h so can't find tweets and links that I browsed through, sorry. Need edit my post.

That said saw several tweets alleging that DoD and personnel within aren't happy about this immigration EO because security and operational issues it may cause. Also kicking Joint Chiefs of Staff from NSC meetings must be going over smoothly at DoD and Mattis.
