Everyone who voted for Trump owns this. You are directly responsible for our nation not allowing refugees from war torn nations including children from seeking asylum in our nation. You have created a religious test for who is allowed to enter our country, and are officially letting fear get in the way of humanitarian assistance for those who need it most. We were the mother of exiles. Now we allow our fear to drown out compassion and love. We are a worse people today for it.
Own this. You did it. You should feel ashamed. Trump said he would do it, so this should not surprise you. Whatever other reason you used to convince yourself that you should vote for him should be appended with 'so much that I was OK creating a religious test and not helping refugees fleeing ISIL'.
Try it with me 'I wanted lower taxes so much that I was OK discriminating against an entire religion and refusing to help children fleeing ISIS'. Or 'I wanted a strict interpretationist on the bench so much that I was OK treating an entire religion and 180 million like they are all vicious criminals when they are in fact the victims of ISIL'. How about 'My Christian values required me to treat the least of these like human garbage. Jesus would be fine with it though, because of economic anxiety and that pizza shop that had to sell pizza to the gays'
"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
