Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Any chance with patches that the texture loading when coming out of a cave into the real world can be reduced or got rid of? Its really bad sometimes....PS5 version

God reliving this game almost 20 years later has been a joy.
Yeah I can't think of anything else right now, sooo good, it's been long enough that I can't remember what to do, making it almost feel like a new game, while the title music alone gets me smiling from nostalgia.

I usually play Elder Scrolls as a stealth archer but I'm going with a mix build of sorts this time. Made a custom adventurer class - blades, heavy armour, bow, destruction magic. I'm having fun!

It's surreal to play such a fantastic looking world with the classic Oblivion music behind it.

And then you see a wolf freak out and zip past the screen in half a second and a smile creeps over your face, cause you know this shit is still Oblivion.

Music is awesome. Although the settings seem to max out at 5.1. I am not sure if it is leveraging 3D sound on PS5.

Still playing other stuff, but fuck it, went ahead and bought it.

Taking a look at the trophy list, this should be a very easy platinum.

lol yessssssssssss!

A labor of love, you can tell the team really love that game when they keep this in lol

True, I might do a different build during a second playthru like a thief type build

lol, forgot how low the quest density is in this game. Using mapgenie so I don't miss anything this time around and/or bug any quests and noticed that for starters there are only 3 side quests in the Imperial City aside from the guilds.

Man, I miss those days. Low density, high quality quests. Todays it's so often the other way around.

I was hoping they would include some cut content but that does not seems to be the case. Here's hoping for some quest DLC.

Perhaps the success could indeed warranty a few new quests. That would be awesome indeed, even though I'm not sure current Bethesda is capable to making quality content...

Same goes for the loot. That feeling when you find a good unique weapon.

what do you guys think had the better soundtrack - Oblivion or Skyrim?

I had a 3 hour drive to do this morning and listened again to tracks from both of them - have to say for me personally Skyrim tips it just by a smidge.

oblivion has the better ost
skyrim is too gloomy

i can't believe past the stutters on ps5 pro.

How much fucking better the quests compared to skyrim.

I truly feel lost in random caves.. and just endlessly wander around like in botw..

This game is sooo good just like in the ps3 days

Yeah, PC version is a mess for me. I'm getting 100+ fps with frame gen in the open world, but it never feels smooth. There's large stutters that can last 2-3 seconds but there's also constant micro-stuttering. Once in a while it might feel smooth for 20 seconds at a time and then back we go. Frame generation also seems to break after a while and I need to disable and re-enable otherwise the game looks like stop-motion. Image quality is also really meh at 1440 DLSS quality, vegetation looks horrible and 90% of the game is vegetation. I think I'm refunding for now and will jump on the pro bandwagon after a couple of patches.

Don't worry babe,
It's just as messy on the ps5 pro.

I always have weird little frame stutters.
The unreal 5 engine is such a weird engine.

It can look amazing and run like absolute ass at the same time.

Meanwhile the horizon / death stranding engine is so stable, it even runs fine on the iphone 15 pro max

They're both memeworthy. Every time I hear the Whiterun theme it makes me think of WingsofRedemption breaking controllers and cracking open a Pepsi.

Man, I've been having a blast these last 2 days with the game despite the performance issues.

It feels surreal seeing the game remastered to such fidelity. I felt slightly emotional when I visited Castle Skingrad yesterday at around sunset, everything looked so amazing.

I think I might have dialed in the right performance settings for my rig so hopefully it's smooth sailing performance-wise from here.

Oblivion

I like to put on the OST when I go to bed sometimes and just fall asleep. It's pure nostalgia for me and Jeremy Soule's best work.

Skyrim, easily. It's not even a contest for me.
I cherish the memory of the first time I was exploring Skyrim during the night with a beautiful Aurora Borealis in the sky and From Past to Present began playing, it sent chills down my spine and it's one of my most cherished memories of my gaming life.

I'm dreading the thought of TES VI without Jeremy Soule, Inon Zur's soundtracks never did it for me with Fallout, I enjoyed Starfield's a bit more but still nowhere near Elder Scrolls' music.

Bruh. This track.

I could listen to the Skyrim soundtrack on repeat, it's just THAT good.

Felt the same, here's what I did to get a good "feel" @ 4K/Ultra:

  • 60 fps limiter
  • Switch from FSR3 to XeSS (Balanced)
  • Disable hardware lumen, use software high
Now it holds a locked 60 99% of the time and feels very smooth.

5800X3D/7900 XT

It really is my OG life invasive game. The origin of "lemme just do this one thing and then I'm done for the night"...only to still be in the world three hours later.

I fucking played for 25 minutes before I left for work this morning because I knew I could knock out a certain quest, sell some shit and then set myself up for next on the to-do list :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Even 20 years later it gets its claws in me like no other :messenger_dizzy:

DLSS 4 has terrible ghosting just like ac shadows. I went back to 3
You sure the ghosting was because DLSS4? There's tons of it even without DLSS at all, think it's more of a Lumen thing.

Pretty comical....i went into that first little hotel (forgot the name) and there were like 5 NPCs in there walking around and everyone started talking out loud to each other all at once.

Some were shouting, some were talking quietly. :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

So for folks that have played Oblivion and Skyrim. Which one is better.
I've sunk maybe 60+ hours into Skyrim and loved it but only played Oblivion for a bit on my Xbox 360 so I can't really compare.

I don't know if it's due to frame gen but there's some weird stuff going on with AMD too. If you enable FMF manually in Adrenline you can actually see the cursor and text ghosting as you move around. Enable it in game however and it works perfectly.

AMD frame gen here literally creates clones of things, not just ghosting. xD

I experienced the same ghosting trying to force DLSS 4 via the nvidia app, possibly with nv inspector it works better. I too went back to 3.7 CCN model to avoid it.
