Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Installed a couple of mods. Nothing crazy, just some stutter fixing, a ui overhaul and a reshade preset to match the original colour pallete.

I sacrificed Lumen Hardware for reshade but I think it was worth it. Put a nice little OC/UV on my 9070XT and now we're cooking in 4K.

From the video tour in the deluxe app. Just listened to the whole 30 +- tracks with the tour looping. Pretty cool stuff. The way the world is presented in these panorama shots make it look like Red Dead Redemption 2.

The immersion and nostalgia is thick. I find myself longing for this feeling of times past when games like this came along all the time, and it gives me hope for the Elder Scrolls 6.

Lets hope they learned a lesson from Starfield.

Gold coast looking amazing in this. Waiting for the proper Renodx mod for HDR but honestly Special K's HDR is top notch already as it is. Much better than RTX HDR and costs less too obvs.

I am going to spend an unholy amount of time in Cyrodiil once again!

I saw it in the reveal stream already and now I see it in the game myself as well, these black levels in the starting dungeon aren't pitch black by any means. Skyrim has awesome, pitch black interiors and you need a torch, here you don't. Why is this? Some artistic choice? Night time is proper dark.

Also the sound, when I attack baddies it just sounds so weak, so tinny. With any other game I hear the bass, I hear my subwoofer, but it's quite weak here. That's a shame.

Btw… any word on why all other languages aside from English have been dropped? I find this to be a strange decision. I mean, my English is just fine, but there's a lot of people in Europe who can't understand it well. And spending 100+ hours in world where you don't understand the people but only read subtitles… I could not do that. MS will probably loose a lot of sales because of this.

Are you guys playing in third person view?
I was, until it seems every time I load into an area, my characters seems to fall 3 inches for some reason. I also feel like you lose a bit of detail with the panned out camera.

I just prefer first person games these days it seems. Third person does come in handy for sneaking though. So I'm still a tiny bit torn.

I just did The Killing Field side quest in Chorrol where you must defend the two sons at the farm.
There literally spawned like 30+ goblins during the second wave, we were all three stuck between them all. The game was stuttering like crazy. Both of the sons died and then I died. Reloaded, tried again, and during all 3 waves, about 3 - 4 goblins spawned, like it was supposed to.
What a crazy glitch that was.

Only glitch I've encountered so far has been the one in the sewers where you load into the zone where the king dies, and his guards just stand there. One says "wait here, I'll go check it out!" and then just stands there and does nothing. You can't proceed any further, you can't leave the area, and talking to the guards or the king does nothing. Had to reload the autosave.

I laughed because I've encountered this exact same bug 4-5 times while playing the original version.

Topher Topher the there's a quest attached to that sheep you found yesterday BTW. Not sure if you managed to figure it out, but I can tell you where to activate it if need be.

Overcast lighting makes it look more dull and washed out. For more vivid colors closer to original you can use console commands to force sunny weather.

~ key to open the console, then this one will enable sunny weather. It can really make a difference.
NOTE! Game reports that there will be no achievements after using console commands!

What settings are you using here? Grass looks so fuzzy

Anyone with a 3080 or 3090 you have to use AMD's FSR + their frame generation (NOT Nvidia's frame generation) to get over 60fps.

Please elaborate, rest of the settings, sw or hw lumen, resolution etc.

Found this below on Steam so if you want better performance, try this.

Ray tracing is forced here is a fix for performance.

- Go to: Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\Windows
- Open Engine.ini and add
[SystemSettings]
r.RayTracing=False
If you want better audio and performance add

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.UseLegacyMaintainYFOVViewMatrix=1

[AUDIO]
bEnableBinauralRendering=True
bEnableHRTF=True

[/script/akaudio.aksettings]
bEnableMultiCoreRendering=True

[/script/engine.audiosettings]
au.EnableBinauralAudioForAllSpatialSounds=1
au.DisableBinauralSpatialization=0
bAllowCenterChannel3DPanning=True
bEnableBinauralRendering=True
au.AllowAudioSpatialization=1
au.EnableSoundOcclusion=1
au.SpatializationMethod=2
bEnableHRTF=True

[SystemSettings]
r.psowarmup.warmupmaterials=0
r.RayTracing=False

[Engine.InputSettings]
RawMouseInputEnabled=1
bDisableMouseAcceleration=True
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bViewAccelerationEnabled=False

PSA: From the above quoted settings, use the highlighted settings only if you're using headphones:

[AUDIO]
bEnableBinauralRendering=True
bEnableHRTF=True

[/script/akaudio.aksettings]
bEnableMultiCoreRendering=True

[/script/engine.audiosettings]
au.EnableBinauralAudioForAllSpatialSounds=1

bAllowCenterChannel3DPanning=True
bEnableBinauralRendering=True
au.AllowAudioSpatialization=1
au.EnableSoundOcclusion=1
au.SpatializationMethod=2

Good remaster , still miles away vs Demons Souls graphics. Never played the DLCs and it seems Shivering Islands alone is worth the purchase.

As a Lot of people Say , sometimes the Game looks gorgeous and others flat /souless, This happens to me specially on towns , they feel empty, boring. on other hand the caves and mines look great they lighting is awesome; outside in the Woods/Open áreas it depends of the hour , weather, lighting..the same area can look good or pretty Bad depending of those factors.

it seems the Game has a good recepción hope this makes Bethesda jump to do a Morrowind remaster, and even going further to Daggerfall.

I want Morrowind, but I feel it would take significant more effort than this. They'd probably have to go full remake instead of relying on the original game logic so it seems kind of unlikely and that makes it a little unlikely.

i had to adjust my sound indivdualy by alot in settings ,most sound affects are to loud like footsteps

I had two moments today where I was very impressed with the visuals

- Around Anvil on the Gold Coast during the day in sunny weather is close to photo realistic. Very impressive.

- Was wondering around the forest in the afternoon as the rain stopped and a soft orange light began to filter through the trees, looked amazing.

I hope they patch in HDR soon.

Oblivion gates…Still awful
The 1st gate i went into had a locked tower and I just figured out how to lock pick correctly. I didn't understand you could push the tumbler back up before it reaches the bottom. I just kept guessing when it reset each time. I was breaking lockpicks on easy chests.

Back to that gate

So that the thread is aware: The thieves guild bug is in this version of the game. Amusei never showed up for me so I have no way of joining.

I'm not wanting to completely restart so I guess I will do it on a second playthrough.

Man, i can't put the game down. Just one more quest, one more dialogue, one level up.
It's so addicting.
Curious to see the reviews for this one.
Also question, is Sean Bean in the game? I think i heard him as the emporers son, or am i wrong?

The lighting is fantastic. Looks like that UE5 Lumen putting in the work.

Although I have noticed some pop-in for distant objects and trees. Looks like it might not be using Nanite, or at least in the Performance mode which I'm playing at.

Any performance impressions on base ps5 performance. Never played oblivion before, heard its fantastic. Never had a powerful enough pc or console back then to play this. Is the performance bearable that one gets used to it after a few hours or does it detract a lot from enjoyment?

So loading into a cold boot into the open world, is so much worse than in a city, and worse then in a house or cave, mine ect. So it is actually to one's oading benefit on PC at least; not load into the open world from boot.

And question, do the caves have maps ? I hate thinking I am going in circles or the wrong way and miss an exit.

Also using the duelsense I get no haptics but I do get triggers. Is that just normal no rumble ?

how long until they just have AI just reskin these classic games in unreal engine 5 and call it a day and then sell it to us?

I was looking into this actually, it's already in the works

TLDR, you can set up an emulator and rom to get the LLM what it needs and then output in UE5 (people have already done it with a few classic SNES games) and the results have been mixed. Given enough time you will be able to prompt 'take this old SNES ROM and recreate the game using a modern engine' and it will output exactly that.

As with all things AI, it is a matter of when, not if, it's possible.

Another cool use case I saw was someone using AI to create a voice over mod for cRPG's that dont have voice acting

Cohh carnage was using something similar on stream recently

Folks have had time with the level scaling, and although improved, it's still something to be aware of:
  • Enemy spawns still scale to the player level
    • Level cap still appears to be around 37.
    • After the cap, enemies will stop scaling and you'll out pace them with every level.
    • Some Essential NPCs still don't scale.
    • Specific enemies, usually story related, are still player level +/- 1 so they'll always match you.
  • If you level too fast, or level too many non-combat skills, you'll still encounter enemies that simply out pace you
    • This appears to have been tweaked somewhat, with the level range for spawns being greater than the original.
    • Items and rewards are still scaled, meaning some quests are better completed at higher levels to maximise the gear you get.
  • Low level enemies still disappear once you've exceeded their level.
    • Glass Armour bandits replacing regular bandits, etc.
  • The difficult slider has also been tuned up.
    • Every step is a factor of five.
    • Example: if Adapt is "Normal" than "Expert" is five times harder.
I haven't had a chance to see how steep the scaling curve is, so hopefully it's at least less punishing. The improvements to the leveling system should help mitigate the pain here, and I've learned to play Oblivion around the level scaling, but it's worth mentioning for the new players.

I found these detect life within 60ft gloves that make me a nasty sneak attack machine for now. The good loot is there, you just gotta put in some time to level up proper and then you'll eventually find it. The good ol days 🙂

I find playing on Adept to be just right for me 🤷🏻‍♂️ I've never come into this series for the fighting. I just fucking love living in this world. Like ZehDon ZehDon said: "It's like coming home."

Also I fucking love how the Argonians look in this. They're way more dinosaur looking as opposed to that lizard/snake combo. Much preferred 😎

Still trying to run the game in 4k (3840 x 2160p), so far no luck as it keep reverting back to 2560 x 1440p. Anyway, these are my settings. FSR + FSR 3 Frame Generation > DLSS and DLSS Frame Generation in this game.

So what's the definitive answer to how it runs on the PS5 Pro? So many different answers.
It can stutter and chug outdoors at times, especially while sprinting. I'm not usually one to notice the occasional frame drop, but this is noticeable. Then again, UE5 is not designed to handle open worlds, so it's kind of a miracle it works at all, especially when you factor in that it's running two game engines instead of one.

Hopefully they patch in an ultra performance mode, I'd trade 1080p for a more solid 60 fps.

I'm running on performance on the Pro and just now out of nowhere when leaving a house in the Imperial city everything started chugging at minus 40. It was wild🤣 Exited out of the game to the PS home menu and jumped back in and it was fine. And this is after 20+ hours at least. No crashes.

This has been the only real noticeable bug or blemish to me aside from the couple milisecond stutter that occurs when autosaving when entering new area. No biggie to me but would be cool if patched 🤷🏻‍♂️

10 hours played now and I have to agree with those saying the lighting leaves a lot to be desired when not in direct sunlight. Don't think it's anything a decent lighting/tone mapping mod won't be able to fix though.

Oh and shout out to whoever suggested to disable the default dialogue/conversation camera, it makes a huge difference and looks 100x better disabled. No more ridiculous zoom in to the NPC faces when in conversation, looks and feels a lot more natural.

I decided to bite the bullet and buy it. If a physical version comes out, I'll buy it during a holiday sale later in the year and keep it sealed or something. I'm already getting kinda bored. I think I might just be over Bethesda games. This is a game I absolutely adored when it first came out. Sunk hundreds of hours into it. Maybe I'll get back into it, I'll see. The game looks great, but the combat is still so bad. I'll see how I feel about it as I play in the coming days.
