They need a support regiment. People providing material and food, etc. People off site making new signs for them, etc. It'll happen if they keep it up.

I think they needed it from the start. They whole Pizza donation (and over ordering) was a example of bad logistics. That's one advantage you might get from a Union if it joins up, but only if for more than a day or it loans it's some of their logistics people.

Are they arresting everyone?

They're on the Brooklyn Bridge, so maybe they don't have the permits?

Perhaps this wasn't well thought out.

http://gothamist.com/2011/10/01/breaking_occupy_wall_street_protest.php

Update 5:00 p.m.: Things seem to be getting more dangerous down at the bridge for everyone involved: according to @jopauca, "NYPD keeps moving line forward. Its getting really hard for ppl to breathe." In addition, Chen tweets, "Caravan of police buses heading to the bridge. Have a feeling they arrested a bunch of stragglers."

Random arrests, wow. This is their "democracy".

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but in case you're wondering why the cops are being even bigger pricks than usual it's because Wall Street owns them. JP Morgan donated 4.6 million to the NYPD a few days ago. The plutocracy isn't even hidden anymore, after decades of slow dismantlement of government in western nations, the rich are now directly buying any authority whether that's legislative or police.

+1 respect for the protests and people involved. I hope they continue to grow.

edit: just one question though, why are the cops video recording? saw two cops with cameras.

If you stand in the middle of the road, you might get arrested. This just in.

Woah Woah, slow down, you mean I can't just stand in the middle of a major bridge and not got arrested?
I got a ticket downtown once for jaywalking. Goddam fascist pig cops bought off by corporate interests.

Manos: The Hans of Fate said:
Perhaps you shouldn't clog a major bridge without getting a permit. You have any idea how potentially dangerous this is?
Don't bother.

They could be doing it to protect themselves.

Probably in case there are allegations of brutality/misconduct, they'll have their own footage to put out. That's my guess.

True. It could also be internal affairs recording the nypd.

From what I've been able to see and read, it appears that the police had the bridge shut down in advance. Protesters were directed to the bridge and funneled on to it, at which points both ends were shut off, and the police began making systematic arrests of both ends. I can't vouch for the legitimacy of this, but it seems to the info that's available at this time.

The JP Morgan owned cops are making random arrests because people are protesting. I didn't know demonstrations have become illegal in the good ol' US of A.

anyone realize if one person fires a gun... the police will mow down the whole crowd ?

oh shit O_o
I am pretty sure the police would be smart enough to not open fire. Well, with bullets at least, I can see them pull out a bunch of "Non-lethal" weapons.

So what happened, did they not realize they needed a permit?

Good one. I'm sure you also believe the bridge in question is for sale.

Where'd you read this? That seems extremely unlikely.

Look, I'm not doubting your sources, but do you have a link showing this from something that's not a blog and is a legitimate news site? Because...

our media, that is also bought and paid for by Wall Street!, has reported on no such thing.

Try this:

So, Protesters block traffic, police arrest protesters for blocking traffic, right?

Have they gotten a more clear message of what they want yet, or are they still protesting with on the vague message of "The current system is bad, fix it!"

Personally, I would love to see a bit of reform to the commodities market come out of this. The government needs to cut down on the amount of speculation that can occur.

That's not exactly buying off officers. Sounds more like a great donation. I wish more companies would make donations to public sectors.

That doesn't seem to be the case, since the protesters were corralled onto the bridge and are not being allowed to leave.

Well, actually, I heard the decision to pay the cops came from Steve Jobs, as he was worried about JP's investments within Apple.

Not from what I could see. Cars were still going. I'm not that familiar with New York, but most bridges have area for pedestrians to walk and that's where this seemed to be.

Yeah, they were chanting "Let Us Go" in the feed I saw earlier.

Doesn't seem like they were using only the pedestrian area.

There is talk about the Marines getting involved in order to support the protestors. Reports aren't entirely clear, but here's one of the few sources I've found:
http://www.in5d.com/occupy-wall-street-the-marines-are-coming-to-protect-the-protestors.html

“I'm heading up there tonight in my dress blues. So far, 15 of my fellow marine buddies are meeting me there, also in Uniform.

I want to send the following message to Wall St and Congress:

I didn't fight for Wall St. I fought for America. Now it's Congress' turn.

My true hope, though, is that we Veterans can act as first line of defense between the police and the protester. If they want to get to some protesters so they can mace them, they will have to get through the Fucking Marine Corps first. Let's see a cop mace a bunch of decorated war vets.

I apologize now for typos and errors. Typing this on iPhone whilst heading to NYC. We can organize once we're there. That's what we do best.If you see someone in uniform, gather together.

#OccupyWallStreet - "The Marines are Coming to Wall Street to PROTECT the Protestors' | in5d Alternative News | in5d.com |A formation will be held tonight at 10PM.

We all took an oath to uphold, protect and defend the constitution of this country. That's what we will be doing.

Hope to see you there!!”

Also, folks, these things are all breaking, so asking for "legitimate news sources" is going to be a bit of a moot point for awhile. Start digging and seeing what you can come up with. This is how things are as they break.

And yes your media is owned and controlled by corporations and Wall Street, why are you being sarcastic about it as if it isn't the truth?

edit: beaten

That was posted last night, they also said they'd punch anyone punching people in response to a question about if they see protesters attacking or striking cops.
