That would be fine if they didn't have a modicum of influence when it comes to trends in the industry and what side of the sociopolitical climate someone is meant to fall on. Things like the Sony censorship debacle, the awful state of game journalism, developers kowtowing to a certain type of thinking; Era is a part of that puzzle that helped bring us to where we are now, even if its a small piece.
Era melting down and either splitting off into a smaller forum or letting members reluctantly return here would certainly do something for shifting the discourse back to some degree of sanity, even if minimally. At the very least, their side of the culture war would take a hit from it.

I haven't seen a single dog pile in the time I've been back. I've seen one half-assed attempt at ban-baiting that was poo-pooed by rational minds. The vindictiveness is gone, and it's something I'd lament seeing return.

A vanguard of lunatics kept residence at GAF during the rebuild over the past ~18 months. Some of them keep an eye on us, some try to "play both sides" of GAF and ERA to brook some sort of reunification/reconciliation/reinfection, and others are just here to troll and shame. We've had a steady trickle of lunatics during this whole time, but many of them didn't have the self-control to last more than a month before they devolved into shrieking, pearl-clutching babies.
If you are pleased with the current sanity, it is because GAFers slowly cleared the "underbrush" of stupid argument techniques, blatant drive-by posters, and pointless console rivalries. Each of these things still occur (like on any public forum), but it's not nearly as bad as it once was.
