Whats going on with BMW? Someone should tell them that the sandbagging can stop now, its OK to have a fast car. :lol

I dunno, but they were in similar positions for the practices in Australia before making it to the front of the grid in the qualifiers. I'm not sure what the strategies are for these things.

Seems to be a lot more interest in this thread then there was last year...good to see.

I was either busy or tired to post about last week's race...I reckon a simple :lol :lol :lol sums it up pretty well though. I am pretty worried about how fragile these cars appear to be though, considering the carnage that took place in the practice rounds today. The lack of TC does add to the entertainment factor, but I don't want to see too much taken away from these cars that causes 'em to break apart like Lego models on the slightest off road bump.

The timing of this race isn't particularly ideal, as I'll have to find a way to manage my sleep time in order to watch the big four EPL clashes later in the day. But it does make for a pretty cool late Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Qualification is just about to start...I'm too tired to stay up for it, so I'm just gonna record it and watch it in the morning.

Times for all three practice sessions, including the pre-qualifying session (Heifeld sure tore it up).

Good to see Ferrari in top 3 in each session. Wonder if they got their engine straight?

Looks like rain is inevitable for this qualifying session...it's just a quesiton of when. Which is why virtually everyone was out doing laps far earlier then normal, just to throw a time in the bank in case the heavens open.

Toyota is doing pretty well, Jarno was first in first period of time qualifying (1.35,205.).

Kimi is in his own league right now :D and Heidfeld second. And what the hell happened to Williams ? :(

Raikkonen fastest in second half of qualifying (1.34,188) !

Button, Coulthard, Piquet, Barrichello, Vettel and Rosberg out.

It will be interesting race tomorrow.
Raikkonen > Massa.
Kovalainen > Hamilton.

Kimi's got this race...no way did Massa suddenly gain a half a second on Kimi. The true pace was revealed in session two, and Kimi slaughtered the field. Based on the way he drove his ridiculously heavy fueled car last week with little issue (being stuck behind Rubes is what did him in, well that and the two brain cramps :lol), I think Kimi wins this one with some ease. Still, if Massa is gonna get any wins, he probably won't be in a better position to do it.

I'll post all the quali times when ITV's website updates them.

No rain today and a Ferrari - McLaren showdown tomorrow. Going to be good :D
What are the temperatures and humidity going to be like tomorrow?

Same as today.

According to ORF (Austrian national television) comentator, both Mclarens are much heavier than Ferraris. We will see tommorow.

Midisurf: Heikki will pit two laps before Hamilton (IMO)

I don't really believe that, they might have more fuel than Massa but Kimi is driving heavy car just like last week.

Heinz Prüller is (almost) always on spot with fuel predicitions. 23 hours and 35 minutes to go :)

Well you could say the same about our comentators. They got Melbournes fuel predications right ;).

Tomorrow will be battle of comentators.

Kimi's clearly driving heavy...or at least, heavier. I'd bet a month's pay on it.

Kimi's pay I mean.

Forgot to mention that the FIA will have to do something about the last few moments of Q3. You can't have a bunch of cars crawling up the track, while a couple of others are literally slaloming through them trying to get a time. Pretty dangerous shit.

BTW, Massa's wife is hot as FUCK. I can hate the player, but I can't hate his game.

why do you guys hate massa? am i missing something?

i hope it rains tomorrow. i kept expecting rain tonight and nothing happened. 10 more minutes, 10 more minutes... and then it was over before the shower.

go massa!

Massa is uncool.

I don't really hate the guy...but ever since people tried to put Massa on the same level as Kimi a year or two ago, I've basically made it my mission to LOL at him at the slightest mishap, or when Kimi leaves his ass in the distance.

In qualifying and from the front, Massa is as quick as any driver out there. But as a driver starting behind the first row, or a driver in traffic, he's so far away from the top three guys (Kimi, Alonso, Hammy) in terms of overall driving skill, control and racing IQ, that the comparison simply becomes embarassing for him.

So er, yeah...that's where I'm coming from. I've been a Kimi worshipper ever since he joined McLaren, so I'm gonna be defensive regarding him in any case. :lol

Alonso and Heidfeld complain to stewards

Fernando Alonso and Nick Heidfeld have complained to the stewards after they encountered slowing cars (McLarens) on their final qualifying attempts.

Wait, where's Kovalien supposed to be on the track? On the turf? I guess he could have been to the right side of the track, but it seems like one of those "tough-luck" situations. I'd have to see the video.

I'd say that a BMW will get on the podium after someone is forced out in a heated fight between Ferrari and McLaren.

McLarens will be penalized so there won't be any heated fights :D.

Probably both McLarens will get 10 grid spot penalty

Perhaps... If you believe in magic.

But seriously even with (possible) 10 grid spot penalty Mclarens will be in top 5 so it will be tough race for Heidfeld.

Fucking Heidfeld... I hope he crashes with Kubica on the first corner.

Well Kovalainen and Hamilton both deserved it. There is no reason for them to drive 80km/h in racing line while others are still driving their fast laps.

The whole slow inlap after qualifying is quite dangerous too. I'm glad they don't have the "burn off" phase of Q3 anymore, but they should just get the fuel credits like last year. Hopefuly they change the rules soon or else there's gonna be a massive accident.

Should be fun to watch the Mclarens drift past Alonso.

It's really hard to pass in Sepang. So if they don't do it right at start it will be pain in the ass to get past even Alanso.

Yet again some statistics

Code:
Wins by starting position:

Pole: 5 wins
2nd: 2 wins
3rd: 0 wins
4th: 1 wins
5th: 0 wins
6th: 0 wins
7th: 1 wins

Eddie Irvine and Fernando Alonso are the two drivers to reach first place from second grid.

Ralf Schumacher took the first place in 2002 and he started from 4th place.

Kimi Raikkonen took the first place in 2003 and he started from 7th place.

Seems a little odd though, as there's another driver in that pack who should be receiving a penalty. Not sure who it was (maybe a Red Bull?), but you'll see them in the above video at 0.48, making Heidfeld take the outside line at the bend before he reaches the McLarens.

Coulthard was not in the racing line so he's clean.
