Uh perhaps that was a secondary motive but it was obviously for a bunt for an intended base hit. It was a smart baseball play and there's nothing wrong with that.

They should bunt 3 times in the 9th. It'd be more effective as the Tigers fielders seem to be woefully incompetent at making outs.
