Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

That's the genesis sound.
OUCH

yeah, the genesis emulator sound seems pretty accurate, so anything you are hearing that you don't like is probably coming from the game itself. 8-bit PCM audio FTL.

GamesTM says “something big heading to Wii VC”
December 4th, 2006

Reader Callum sent in a snippet from gaming mag GamesTM that concerns the Virtual Console. He took a pic, and transcribed the bit of text as well…

“Something big is coming to the Virtual Console, something that, for the past decade, certain corners of the retro community have been crying out for. I wish I could say more, but the uncertainties of publishing schedules prevents me from spilling the beans too early. Nevertheless, if what we’ve heard turns out to be true, the virtual console is about to become a lot more interesting and looks like it might turn out to be much more valuable to dedicated retro gamers than we first thought.”

Gentlement, start your speculation.

What's from 1996 that dedicated retro gamers want?

This is the key...

Rondo of Blood, biznatches.

It doesn't have that big of a fan following though, no where near the likes of Earthbound, Chrono Trigger or NiGHTS.

Rondo of Blood wouldn't be exactly a big deal either like that quote says, Castlevania is a niche series

With the exception of Chrono Trigger, I'd say the Castlevania series has JUST as much of a following as Earthbound or NiGHTS.

I love archiac sound chips. The genesis sound chip, NES, and the SID chip in the C64. In the case of Ristar they used a lot of real sound samples (which the genesis isn't really good at), so it sounded a little rougher than most genesis games.

Castlevania is still a series that is alive.

Earthbound, NiGHTS and Chrono Trigger are dead series.

I think a dead series that is ressurected would be a bigger deal than a Castlevania game.

Uhm... no. Just don't even try anymore.

This particular Castlevania game is considered one of the best (if not THE best by some) Castlevania games ever made. It was the first to feature branching level design. It's pretty badass, and it's never been released in the United States (or Europe to my knowledge). People have been clamoring for this game for years.

I can't think of any one single game that the "retro gamer community" has been crying out for. And I doubt Nintendo is going to cater to the few hundred people who have been crying out for say, S&P, or Mother 1/2/3

I only played through part of an emulated one and it was indeed great. I would love to buy this on my VC.

Rondo of Blood? I've at least heard of Earthbound, NiGhts and Chronotrigger.

I actually bought a US copy of Earthbound (complete with scratch and sniff guide), but it didn't work through my action replay. So I returned it and got Illusion of Time/Gaia.

Nope, Castlevania 3 was the first to have branching level design.

You post on GAF and haven't heard of Rondo of Blood? Maybe you've heard of it as Dracula X or Akumajou Dracula X?

A couple of the writers for Games TM have given hints on RllmUK.

- The game is for a console not currently supported on the VC.
- It's not a Nintendo game.
- It's not a Sega game.
