Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

While we're talking about controllers, how does the D-Pad on the Wiimote work for games like Super Star Soldier where diagonal movement is important? I heard the D-Pad is the same as the DS Lite's, and it feels like it is, and diagonal movement on the DS Lite is a huge pain.

It's actually a lot more blocky in movement.

Mine works just fine -- but I prefer the grips of the Classic Controller over it. Diagonals are great.

I doubt they'd do GBA games on VC. DS plays GBA games and that market is healthy.

I call shenanigans on that VC rumor. Have any of these "random obscure European gaming rag reports something amazing!" rumors ever turned out to be true?

Though I guess it's possible that this was what Reggie was talking about a few days ago, but I kinda doubt it.

Slightly off topic, but all this talk about Rondo got me thinking - has there ever been a bad 2D Castlevania? Has there even been one that could be considered merely average? The ones I have played (Castlevania, C2, SotN, CotM, DoS) have all be great and I've heard the others (Castlevania 3, Super Castlevania, Rondo and Harmony) are really good as well. This seems like one of the most consistent franchise out there... if you ignore the 3D games.

BTW - I can't wait for PoR :)

Seems like people hate on Castlevania 2 more than any of the other 2D Castlevanias.

I think it's the bomb diggity though. Yo.

Does anyone knows if I can purchase Wii points directly from the console, or a website using a international credit card? I'm in Argentina, and they don't have Wii point cards. However, the system and the games are from the US version (you can see on the back of your games/wii system: "To be distributed in North America, Caribean and Latin America").

I believe there's an option in the Wii Shop Channel to purchase points via credit card, though admittedly I haven't been in there since launch day.

pretty much every 2d castlevania i've played has been sexcellent. the original has some bits that have grown a bit unwieldy for my tastes--some of the jumping sections that include spawning medusa heads and instant death pits in tandem are maddening--but it's still a fantastic game.

Average:
CV2 (no, really - lying villagers due to a bad translation, uneven flow, random design elements)
CV Adventure (holy shit it's slow, and hard, and lacking most of what makes a Castlevania recognizable)
SNES Dracula X/XX (pretty bland level design)
MSX Vampire Killer (level design is too loose; game lacks that Castlevania action, icky collision detection)

Bad:
CV Legends (dull as dirt)
Saturn NitM (lazy port by Konami's worst team at the time; they left complaints about the platform in a text file on the disc)
Haunted Castle (cheap as hell, and not fun. seriously.)

I've never even heard of most of those...

I stand by Castlevania 2, though! That game was quite fun.

Do you have a link for that?

How did R-Type on the TG-16 play?
I haven't hopped on the VC bandwagon yet (can't find a classic controller around here) but I might give it a try once R-Type is available.

It played well, but it was actually split up into two separate releases back then (dividing the game in half by level count). Why not just play it on R-Types for PS1? That's a perfect port.

No, unfortunately, and I don't have a copy of the game, or I'd upload the file.

I believe you're referring to KAIHATSU.DOC that is found under the "OMAKE" folder. I uploaded it from my copy of the game. Unfortunately neither my Mac nor a Windows computer is willing to put this into readable Japanese for me...

Classic Controller - I know it's only 20 dollars but is it worth it would you guys say? Is it cushioned to your hands? It looks a tad like the SNES pad, which going back now is a bit uncomfortable...

It's Chinese Simplified (GB2312) according to Word on my PC.

It's very comfortable. If you plan on playing a lot of VC games, I'd buy it.

Yeah, it's worth getting it. Comfortable, great layout, good price.

It's my favorite controller ever... the answer is yes.

Does what work? Putting a Japanese machine in the US and downloading the Japanese range of games?

Well yes, it does.
eh, guess i read it too fast. I thought it said you can download games form the JP servers with the same trick that you can use with Live.(the IP region switch)

Castlevania Adventure (GB) was terrible, just awful, but that's about it.

Open it in notepad instead of Microsoft Word. Displays fine for me now.

Notepad? I'll have to try that again on the Windows computer. (Not there now.) TextEdit on Mac isn't reading it at all, even when I choose Japanese.

So does it complain about the Saturn there or not?

Not really. It's mostly the typical Thank You note that was popular in Saturn development. Basically it has a short note from each of the various designers, composers, artists, programmers, etc that worked on the port. They thank you for buying the Saturn version and talking about the additionals they worked on in the game. The programmer did seem to have a very hard time with the Saturn though, but he attributes it mostly to the fact that he hasn't worked on it before. Nothing really scandlous unfortunately. :(

Lol - Dracula X was one of those "no - seriously - you have to play past level <N> before it gets good!"

Seriously, after about level 8 the levels get awesome.

deamentia! Bomberman '94 or Mega Bomberman - Which one is more likely for a VC release!

What hoops do I have to jump through to get TurboGrapX Wii games in Australia?!

Answer meeee!! I want to give you money!

The guy with the hypnotising avatar is correct.

Why can't us Australians give you money deamentia? I HAVE CASH I WISH TO THROW AT YOU.

I agree with the majority, definitely get it. It's a lot meatier than the old SNES pads, and much more comfortable. I can see using the wiimote for the NES games, but for anything else you really need the classic controller. Trying to reach that b-trigger while playing VC games is just horrible.

ok how come in super star soldier some times I respawn right where I died and others I have to restart the level?

also level 4 is really hard. I can easily go though levels 1-3. but I can barly make it to the mid boss in 4. love the game. now wheres R-type III?
