Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

"That must be it! Release SimEarth right away! We'll also release Super Earth Defense Force.

You know, if Earth Defense Force 2017 is any indication, Super Earth Defense Force might not actually be half bad.

But we need Earthbound and Shining Force II posthaste.

If Earthbound does ever come to the VC, Nintendo should somehow provide the strategy guide with it. It came with the original afterall. I love all the real life imagery the guide had. So hilarious and weird.

As nice as that would be, I'd hate to think how much longer that would delay its release on VC.

Sword of Vermilion came with a strategy guide too. Nothing of it appears on the help file of the VC version.

I had that game when I was a kid.

I traded it for...

...Awesome Possum kicks Doctor Machino's butt.

:(

Even though it's still hanging in my room, I'm sad that I only won that consolation Mach Pizza air freshener from the strategy guide contest. I'd probably be sadder if I knew what the winners got, though.

Im looking forward to that as well. Havent played 1 yet though. Are the stories that closely tied together, or do they just take place in the same universe?

No, no relation that I can remember, aside from similar gameplay. 1 is worth playing though, get it.

You have the Mach Pizza air freshener?

You don't know how lucky you are. :(

Actually, it occurs to me that I don't know what the grand prize for that Scratch 'n Sniff contest was. I must find out.

To Starmen.Net!

Edit: It appears that the Mach Pizza air freshener was the only prize. Feelings of envy towards people who won some Earthbound uber-prize averted!

Although I did learn about a cardboard Final Starman stand that I didn't know I wanted.

WHY?

WHY?

I mean, Sword of Vermilion wasn't exactly a great game...but seriously. AWESOME POSSUM? AFASFASDFA

And to think that for near thirteen years I've been concerned that I was missing out on a giant plush Mr. Saturn or something.

Just don't look to Japan. They've got all kinds of cool Mother memorabilia.

I want a Starman or Master Barf keychain too, Nintendo. :(

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

The two games joining the lineup this week are considered cult classics, yet they deal with topics as varied as farm management and shooting enemies to the strains of heavy-metal tunes. Just don’t get the two mixed up, since most livestock don’t like heavy metal and it takes more than turnips to defeat fire-spewing sea serpents.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

Harvest Moon® (Super NES®, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): You bought the farm, so now it’s time to roll up your sleeves and try living off the fat of the land. Fresh air and the beauty of the outdoors will be fulfilling, but a successful farm needs a lot of working capital as well. There are buildings on your property, but they are in need of livestock. You have a modest house, but if things get lonely in the field, it’s going to take a remodel to woo a female farming companion. Your challenge is to dig in and build your life as a farmer from the ground up. How you manage will determine the outcome, but remember: You always reap what you sow.

Lords of Thunder (TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Lords of Thunder is a side-scrolling shooter that has you take on the role of a legendary warrior, blasting enemies to heavy-metal tunes. Your enemies are plotting to revive Zaggart, “The Dark One,” who was sealed beneath the six continents of Mistral. It’s up to Landis, descendant of the heroic Dyu, to stop them. Choose the order in which to attack the six stages. Before each stage, select one of four magic armors and use crystals you’ve collected during your battles to buy items. Selecting the right armor for each stage is the key to your ultimate victory. Then get ready to face awesome enemies like a fire-spewing sea serpent or a giant insect. Whether it’s the fast-paced shooting or breaking into the fortress of a stage boss, you’ll be blown away by the intensity of Lords of Thunder.

Lords of Thunder is mine as soon as I get home.

I just hope that the music is actually audible this time around.

It is. The sound effects dont seem to drown it out. Also they kept the screams in for the bosses and some of the bigger normal enemies. Strangely some that seem they would scream (some from the promo video that screamed like that big dragon tank thing in Dezant) dont. Also I think I watched that promo video too much from awhile back. Everytime I see that game over screen, I think that some asian game owner store guy is going to pop up telling me I need practice :lol.

Practice! Practice practice practice!

I have a ton of those promo videos. I also have every Nintendo Power promo video ever since the DKC one all the way up to the Hot Newz one(Jet Force Gemini/DK64).

But yeah, Lords of Thunder and Harvest Moon are definitely mine. Great update this time!:D

Unfortunately Super EDF has nothing to do with the EDF games.

Super EDF is actually a 2D shooter:

Anyway Gradius Collection arrived today and goddamn the arcade version of Gradius 3 is still one of the hardest games ever made. The SNES version is like a picking a fight with an infant in comparison.

Good news is that for Earthbound to possibly release before Brawl, it has to be in these next two weeks (the Monday before Brawl will be the release of the N64 Smash Brothers, no doubt, and it'll be a cold day in hell when Nintendo releases two Nintendo titles in the same week.) I'm going to actually be optimistic (and setting myself up for embarrassing disappointment) and say we'll see it THIS week.

Oh and Harvest Moon is just perfect for VC. I'll buy Lords of Thunder after I beat Super Star Solder (how long is Lords of Thunder? Longer than Gates of Thunder I hope.)

Maybe I'm just getting soft, but that's really graphically pretty for a 1991 SNES game. Musically pretty too.

On a separate note, I'm not sure whether I love or hate how, since the beginning of VC, I've found literal dozens of VC-eligible space shooters that I want, and yet somehow there are always more that I haven't heard of that I want as soon as I do hear of them. Ah well, wishlist +1. That makes for 39 space shooters I've wanted--9 of them are downloaded, 30 are yet to be put up.

Same length, pretty much.

It happened six times in 2007 in terms of North American releases, including a three game, all NES week. I guess I'll need to bundle up whenever I eventually face my demise. :P In fairness, you're right that Nintendo generally spaces out its releases, even though the February 12th, August 6th, and October 1st hauls were pretty darn good in my opinion.

Jan. 1: Baseball [NES] & Urban Champion [NES]
Feb. 12: Ice Climber [NES], Kid Icarus [NES] & Kirby's Adventure [NES]
July 9: Mach Rider [NES] & Yoshi [NES]
July 16: Balloon Fight [NES] & Paper Mario [N64]
August 6: Adventures of Lolo [NES] & Wave Race 64 [N64]
October 1: Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels [NES] & Sin and Punishment [N64]

I imagine we'll see another multiple Nintendo release week eventually, although it would be difficult at the current pace. I don't think we'll get Earthbound before Brawl though, and unless SSB64 shows up with Japan's March releases, I'm starting to doubt that gets released before Brawl either.

This applies to me perfectly. I love the space shooter genre, but now I find myself waiting for more shooters to hit the VC than I know what to do with.

Though I'm not sure I want quite as many as you. >_>

Going after Surfer Girl would basically validate everything that Surfer Girl said, though.

Wait.

Surfer Girl said that Mother 3 was coming to North America....

And if Nintendo goes after him/her/it, it means that Surfer Girl's information was probably accurate...

...

...Is it wrong to hope that someone gets sued?

If it means getting Mother, the answer is obvious.

Clearly, JSnake, the only solution to your problem is to continue receiving your data but PM it to someone else in the thread whose username also begins with a J, and then this person can post the PR instead of you.

In that case, I must change my name to JIam Canadian. For great justice.

If I remember she also said "Mother 4 for (wii or ds)" but thats surfer girl we're talking about.

Mother 4 would only happen if Itoi would get on board for another one. I'm not sure if I can see him doing a fourth game, especially after the development hell that was Mother 3's creation.

Unless there's a non-Itoi sequel one day... That got me my tag (Kohler says it's impossible) but with money, anything can happen basically.

Either way if it's Mother3 i'm super happy and if ever it's mother back my tag with will fucking rebound in the face of Chris.

I love Surfer Girl now.

Personally, I can't see them ever doing a Mother game without Itoi. Mother is Itoi's creation through and through; there's a reason he gets his own copyright line on the title screen.

Mother isn't really a "Nintendo" series in the sense that Mario and Zelda are. I mean, it is technically, but Mother has always been Itoi's vision, right from the beginning.

Lords of Thunder is blurry on my TV. :/ I guess it is a result of the shoddy TG-16 emulation. Regardless, it is still an awesome game.

Me and Jiggy shall form the J defence force.

Ok now since I wanted to take a break from Harvest Moon I worked more on Super Metroid. Am I the only one who notices the lag in the game? Is this a Wii problem, an emulator problem, or a game problem that was present in the SNES version? I do have to say it did help when I almost died to the giant green dino thingy :lol man I forgot how hard the metroid games are for me :lol

It is. Rented that sooo many times back in the early SNES days. Great soundtrack, and some nice boss designs as well. Jaleco games back then always seemed to have catchy soundtracks.

And the only promo videos I still have are the Capcom Aladdin SNES one, N64 video (lol at the two teens running around with Mario while screaming "360"!), and of course Lords of Thunder.

lvl 2 of Super E.D.F. Favorite stage...dunno why that music stuck with me as the a reminder of that series.

Yeah TG16 emulation on the Wii, regardless if its just the cards or the CDs, has some sort of filter applied to it.

Yeah i know. But i keep my mind open and kinda wish the series doesn't end now. It's like with Metal Gear. I'd hope it continues even after Kojima's gone or something.

Well its not too far fetched. Seriously do you think Nintendo is going to retire Metroid, Donkey Kong, Mario, Zelda, and all other Miyamoto pioneered franchises when he passes on?

Also for those still iffy on Lords of Thunder purchase, heres 3 gameplay videos I decided to upload.

Dezant Continent + Intro to the game (didnt do that well here...made some silly mistakes)

Azual Continent (Kinda got back into the swing of things here)

Don't think Miyamoto had much to do with Metroid. I think that was Gunpei Yokoi's baby. So, yeah, they did do the game after he passed. They actually totally re-imagined it.

Well, games like Mario and Zelda have been handled by countless different teams.

Mother has always been Itoi's baby.
