Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Well, we're getting an enhanced version on WiiWare, so no big loss.

Don't try to spread your lies here.

Well, this is true.

Super Smash Bros.

Again, it's painfully obsolete and rather unnecessary.

Guys common. You can play a NEW Smash Bros today what's the problem?

There. there. *tap tap on shoulder*

Seriously, people need to start filling me in on the places breaking street date.

Just checked the Metroid Prime 3 Channel out of curiosity and it briefly loads to give me a fancy screen telling me that the channel has expired. DOUBLE FAIL NINTENDO

been like that since December or November :lol

While it's kind of outlived its purpose, I don't understand why they'd disable the channel. It could still serve as advertising for people in the future who might be considering buying Metroid Prime 3.

The sooner you get over it and just buy the original cart, the better off you'll be.

You forgot Tetris, Tetris Attack(in NA) and Super Mario All-Stars.

Oh, and Mega Man.

Yep, we knew they'd stop making it available for download, but they also said they'd keep it around for people who got it while it was up. Then they went and stopped the service for those people.

It still seems odd, though. I mean, you don't see Microsoft taking down trailers or demos for older Xbox 360 games or anything like that.

Oooo... Mercs for the Genesis was great.

Meh, it's hard to care about 16-bit coin-op ports anymore when so many compilations give you the real deal.

Capndrake said:

That's worse than I ever could have imagined. Why does the protagonist resemble Mario and have his exact same jumping animation? Why is the scrolling so choppy? Why is the character able to just walk through walls? Why do levels just seem to end for no reason?

Why am I asking?

In most cases I would agree, but Mercs on the Genesis has an "Original Mode" where you collect parts of your team and can power them up individually, with lots of hidden stuff and different, longer levels... much better than the arcade version.

Wii-kly Update: One New Classic Game Added to Wii Shop Channel

March is roaring in like a lion on the Virtual Console™. This might be a good
time to look back at the massive catalog of classic games and ask yourself if
you’ve played them all.
Well, have you? You know there are some unplayed gems
in there that your friends keep raving about, like this week’s release, Super
Turrican. Not to mention the games you haven’t played since you were 10. Go
ahead and fire them up – you’ll feel like a kid again. Just think of the
Virtual Console as your own personal fountain of youth.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every
Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii
Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop
Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new game is:

Super Turrican: (Super NES®, 1 player, Rated E 10+ for Everyone 10 and Older –
Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): You are Bren McGuire, on a United Planets
Freedom Forces mission to save the peaceful planet Katakis from the Machine,
source of all that is cruel and evil in the universe. The only weapon on your
side is the state-of-the-art Turrican Assault Suit. Equipped with multiple
weapons, including the incredible Freeze-Beam that temporarily immobilizes
almost any enemy, the Turrican Assault Suit gives one man the power of an
entire army. Use the myriad weapons and powers at your disposal to fight
through 12 increasingly insane levels, free the innocent residents of the
planet Katakis and crush the oppressive Machine.

(Read: "If, uh, if you haven't played it, it's new to you!")

"Hi, this is Nintendo. We've looked at your accounts, and it seems most of you have only purchased a few dozen of our VC titles. Perhaps you should reconsider some."

How is Super Turrican anyway? From the video I just watched on vc-reviews.com, it honestly looks really bland.
Read the review too, we didn't give it a 5 out of 5 for nothing.

EDIT: And I must've forgotten to add our own video for it, whoops (It's there now, a bit more variation instead of just one level like the previous video).

there are still many publishers not supporting the VC (Electronic Arts, Activision, Midway, Disney Interactive, Throwback Entertainment (which owns the rights to Acclaim's old games), Atari, etc.)

HAY GUYS I got one of the next press releases early

Wii-kly Update: Zero New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

It's St. Patrick's Day, and Virtual Console™ is celebrating with our very own potato famine. This week, we suggest you sit back in front of your Wii, Classic Controller™ in hand, and imagine what it would be like if there was a game to play. Drink a warm, cheap, foul-tasting pisswater beer with a hearty dollop of green food coloring, choke down some corned beef, and sing songs about the old days, when the fields were green with new Virtual Console releases. Remember when we put out four games a week? Well, now you can eff off and die.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new game is:

Nothing (1000 Wii Points): There is no game, however, all Wii owners are still asked to pay 1000 Wii Points just in gratitude for having the privilege of owning this godforsaken thing. You know how many children go to bed at night crying because they don't have a Wii? It's probably a fair few.

But why not?

I wish I knew. I think Super Turrican is the first game from an American publisher to show up on the VC (Factor 5). EA has some good Genesis games they could release, like Populous.

It's a great game. People are just complaining because they hyped themselves into thinking there would be a surprise.

Hmmm, which one had the grappling hook? Mega Turrican or Super Turrican? I seem to recall Super didn't and was a little less awesome because of it.

Kobun Heat said:
No. It was published by Seika, a Japanese publisher.
Does it say so on the US Wii Shop? The European shop lists Factor 5 as publisher.

Mega, which is also coming to VC :D

EDIT: Actually, Super has one as well. But it's not required to use, I think.

So Nintendo wants us to purchase VC games we really don't want to play? Sure, I haven't played them all, nor do I want to play the ones that I intentionally failed to download, but I'll go ahead and buy them anyhow.

I did read your review (love the site, BTW), but that doesn't stop me from wanting more than one opinion. :D

I'll definitely check out your new video. I was wondering why the first one was so lacking in variety. Thanks.

No disrespect towards Super Turrican... but... wow. One game? ONE? And Nintendo is asking its users to think about buying older releases instead of releasing more games?

Maybe they're realizing that people are filling up their Wii memory space quickly and don't have room for any more.

It's pretty much the same as the original: Do Re Mi Fantasy: Milon no DokiDoki Daibouken ("Daibouken" is Japanese for Adventure. So it looks like Hudson Soft took the Japanese name an just translated it into English).

Also, as others have said: Factor 5 is the publisher of the VC games and they own the rights to the game (except in Germany, where THQ has it).

"But if your refrigerator’s full, you’ve got to pull something out and put something else back in. That’s just the normal issue of space. I mean, really, are you using every single thing on there?"

So, Super Turrican.

What's the difficulty like on this game? Looks interesting and there have certainly been a lot of praise threads for this series over the years, but I'm not amongst the best at hardcore shooters.

I really don't know why, but I love seeing all the bitter tears each week in this thread.

"We're entitled to hundreds of games, Nintendo!"
