Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Well, if you get to hang out with Virgil, Homer, and Socrates, it can't be all bad. And just when you go and just about give up, Nintendo springs an Import Week on you. It's almost like old times.

This PR lateness worries me.

Well, only a little bit late this week. I just wonder if Jsnake and others weren't releasing the PR in advance for the last couple of months, how many times would we have waited until noon EST Monday before finding out what the releases were. Nintendo can be pretty bad about updating their press site. Sending out the PR ahead of time was a small, but nice step on Nintendo's part. If we have to start waiting until Monday again, it would just be a reversion to previous form.

I wonder if they'll translate any text? Not like there probably is a whole lot, though.

If anybody can be counted on to translate text, it would Hudson. If it remains untranslated, I don't think any company is going to bother.

The SEGA PR for Puyo 2 sort of implied they'd be translating at least some text when they mentioned the "an intriguing backstory". Also, didn't Hudson translate some text for Battle Lode Runner already?

Hey SEGA, Monster World IV next plz!

Those are BOUND to be translated. Or at least, Nintendo didn't put up the usual "WARNING - JAPANESE WRITING AHEAD" flare warnings.

Also, didn't Hudson translate some text for Battle Lode Runner already?

Nope, it was entirely in English to begin with. That also applies for Break In and Final Soldier as well, whenever they get released.

This is a situation where two games is okay. :D

Picking up DoReMi for sure. Perhaps I can be optimistic and think that the reason there aren't any TG-16 releases for March is due to Hudson being too busy translating DoReMi? Dunno how much text it has, though.

Wow, I didn't expect the Milon sequel to ever get released overseas. Definitely an instant purchase for me.

Personally I hope it's because adventure island 2 is coming!

This is a much more awesome update than I had anticipated. More import titles is always good.

Do Re Mi Fantasy will be a day one purchase, even if I don't get around to actually playing it this week. :D

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

Got enough challenge in your daily routine? Chances are that basic everyday tasks — getting to work or school on time, walking the dog, taking out the trash — aren’t enough to keep you firing on all cylinders. Luckily, Virtual Console™ is close at hand to help you test your mettle in fresh and unusual ways. Whether you’re rescuing a kidnapped pal or mastering a set of mind-bending grid puzzles, this week’s new arrivals, imported from Japan, offer a refreshing break from the late-winter blahs.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

DoReMi Fantasy: Milon’s DokiDoki Adventure (Super NES®, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Alcohol Reference and Comic Mischief, 900 Wii Points): This is an action game where an energetic boy named Milon sets off on a great adventure in a cute fairy-tale world. Piccolo is a village in the country of Fantasia. One day, they hear from the fairy Alis that songs and music have disappeared from the forest. Suddenly, the wizard Amon appears, grabs Alis and vanishes with her. The brave Milon must now go on a journey to rescue his kidnapped friend, with his bubble shooter as his only weapon. Along the way, he’ll need to retrieve five legendary instruments and stars by defeating Amon’s minions. Get ready to enjoy the fun and comical action of this charming game.

Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 900 Wii Points): The object of this head-to-head puzzle game is to clear your grid of falling patterns called puyos by forming chains of four or more same-colored puyos in a straight line or one of several geometric patterns. What makes this a challenging two-player contest is the fact that when you clear a chain of puyos from your grid, it drops a random piece of filler onto your opponent’s grid. The more puyos you clear, the more you fill your opponent’s grid, and if you can clutter up his grid enough to fill it to the top, you’ve won the game. An intriguing backstory makes this an amusing experience for one or two players.

The list of downloadable games is updated weekly on Nintendo’s Online Press Room at press.nintendo.com. For more information about Wii, please visit wii.com or contact:

Solid week. The (ostensibly superior) sequel to Milon and the first release of a formerly unreleased in the states Puyo. I hope Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix (Super Famicom/SNES) isn't out of the question, since it had a special tournament mode. And of course, better graphics and sound. Hope they give us a good localization though.

If you people manage to overlook DoReMi Fantasy and (what looks like) and by the accounts of almost half a dozen GAFers is indeed a game of 2D platforming win just because Brawl comes out a day sooner, I'll hunt you all down.

This is a superb week of VC releases--and yet simultaneously an iffy one because these games are in all likelihood being sent to die. Hard. :( So, anyone going to make an official thread for this? Or do I have to go make "VC, DoReMi Fantasy" my taunt in SSBB and start some viral marketing that way, or what? Just so hyped for this one. :D I'm actually expecting to enjoy it more than SMB3 at this point (though I suppose I should say I don't hold SMB3 in quite as much esteem as most people).

Totally confirmed purchase. Do-re-mi is one of those Super Famicom games that I really wanted to be released on VC, but expected Nintendo to ignore in all territories. Awesome news.

Doesn't matter if SSBB is coming out the day before. I'm getting it that morning.

PS: this game has wonderful music.

Very exciting week for the VC. :D

To the poster who said that Nintendo is sending these games to die, I disagree.

Nintendo realizes that Brawl is going to overshadow any VC release this week. The casuals aren't going to be worried about VC. That leaves only us - the hardcore gamer. Well, they obviously catered to the hardcores this week with two import games. After all, we're the ones who are most likely to buy VC games even with Brawl coming out.

What sort of platformer is Do Re Mi? Is it slower moving like a Kirby game?
I don't know how I skipped over this--well, actually, I do. Because I was too excited about DoReMi Fantasy. :D But anyway, if you think Kirby is "slower," I think you've been playing the wrong games in the series. Namely Kirby 64 and Dreamland 3. :( Every other Kirby game plays at a pretty hectic pace to me, to the point where I don't even consider them platformers so much as action games.

I'm in line with your thinking--not Adventure Island 2 necessarily (though it could be), but they must've been working on something not on TG16. Hudson's been way too on the ball with Virtual Console releases to drop off the face of the earth for a month.

awesome to see more import games. let's continue blurring the lines between territories as much as possible, please--that shit is old hat and gots to go.

Nothing but truth, beelzebozo. Nothing but truth.

Bring on Final Soldier, Parodius, Mother, and every other worthwhile Japanese-only game!

See, this is why you have such a big problem with the Wii's storage, you buy countless VC games that you don't even want.

You forgot me :( :lol

I'm buying this game day one. When you showed the Youtube video earlier i was already convinced! I didn't know it would come fast like that!

I just want to know a bit more about that game. It didn't came out in the US back in the day or i simply overlooked it?

Iam Canadian said:
What's worse is people like me who buy countless VC games we do want.
I'm just kind of sad how most of the games that I find the most replayable, and therefore the ones that I'd most like to stay on my Wii indefinitely, are the ones that take up the most space. :/
Putting The Dynastic Hero aside, F-Zero X, Sin and Punishment, Star Fox 64, Gate of Thunder, and Lords of Thunder are all enormous, but they're so pick-up-and-play that I'm not very fond of getting rid of them even though I need the space. SF64 is already gone because I do at least need a full hour free on any given time I want to get into it, but still. :(
Gate of Thunder will probably be the next to go since Lords of Thunder is just plain better.

Anyway, yeah, it was never released in the US before.

You're preaching to the choir, Jiggy, bud. I have the exact same dilemma. Though Gates is already gone on my console.

How can you not?
In all fairness, I can understand how the style of DoReMi might turn people off. (I'll be getting it, just for the record.) And does anyone really give a shit about Puyo Puyo? Great puzzler, but not one person here has indicated that they'll be getting it. Not like it hasn't been released a million different times on a million other systems.

Yeah, but mostly only in Japan, and we have yet to see all the separate entries represented here. All we have so far are the decidedly bare bones initial releases of Puyo on the VC represented by Kirby's Avalanche and Mean Bean Machine, Tsu in the form of Puyo Pop for GBA and Neo Geo Pocket Color, and the IMO not as strong Fever for the Cube and DS. Hopefully they'll see fit to release the N64 versions of Sun and ~n Party, and for good measure, Super Tsu Remix for the SNES/Super Famicom, quite possibly the best version of Tsu.

Iam Canadian said:
No, Puyo Puyo is pretty useless, I'll grant you that.

You are useless!!!

Puyo's kind of had one hundred and thirty-nine other releases across all systems (even if not this specific one?) and I'm not going anywhere near it, but at least it's another import title for VC. Always good to see some of those.

Anyway, unless I missed someone, there are at least twenty people in this thread so far who will be downloading DoReMi Fantasy. [Edit: And WiiRevolution1's "maybe."] This bodes well.

As I've said though, few have actually made it out of Japan, and we're still missing a couple of editions, namely Sun and ~n from the PS/SAT/N64/DC era, which were also Compile's last two Puyo games before Sega picked up the franchise.

I can't.

Unless people just hate color or happiness, but if they hate color or happiness they should stop playing video games and spend their time on internet mes-- Oh. Yes, of course, the answer was before me all along.

Don't worry, I'm not saying it's not worth putting up on VC (because it is)--just that I'm not going to be one of the buyers.
