MV has pinpoint accurate controls, it just has a rather steep learning curve. The game tends to get ragged on unfairly imo, it has solid game design and was easily my favorite GBA launch game (ahead of CotM and Driller 2 even).

That's what I was thinking too. Zillion II was one of my favorite games as a kid. Just one character, multiple configurations (flying, walking, motorcycle).

Super Dodge Ball Advance, dude.

CV:CotM would have been the best launch game except for the fact that it was nigh-unplayable on the launch GBA due to it being too dark.

i still loved this game when i bought it. i had no idea symphony of the night existed, and this was one of my first introductions to the c.v. series' new love affair with rpg elements. i spent hours hacking away at axe men building my stats when i first snagged my gba.
 
Excellent news about the SMS.. I actually have my SMS still and ALL of my original games for it... but it hasn't been hooked up in years (a decade or more?) and in no way would I trust the batteries in Phantasy Star or Miracle Warriors at this point.

Games I am looking forward to:
Zillion II
Phantasy Star
Fantasy Zone
Fantasy Zone 2
Miracle Warriors
Pro Wrestling
Psycho Fox

and if Sega would be so generous enough as to implement IR pointer for a light gun, Wanted and Rescue Mission.

Don't get me wrong, I imported a GBA with F-Zero at the Japanese launch, so it was my only GBA game for a while, and I loved it to death. But after playing the two more recent F-Zero GBA games, I just can't bring myself to bother trying to relearn the mechanics of MV whenever I want to play.

As someone who played the game for the first time very recently (a former college roommate of mine gave me a whole shit ton of SMS games he had in storage), not very well at all. The controls are just too weird for me, the movement seems to be either all or nothing.. like you'll move slow and jump with no forward momentum, and then you hold the button down and your character will FLY, and run into an enemy and die :P

I was more of a fan of De-Cap Attack on the Genny, personally.

Play SNES F-Zero and then play Maximum Velocity. The SNES game has perfect controls, while the GBA one is virtually uncontrollable. Just making any turn in the game without helplessly sliding into the wall is incredibly hard! In every other F-Zero game you can turn by, well, turning, but not here... oh no, you need to tap the accelerator the whole time you want to be able to turn. Terrible, TERRIBLE design... even when you do tap the accelerator the whole time while turning (annoying), the game still feels like you're playing the entire game on a sheet of ice. What in the world were they thinking?

No, Dragon's Curse isn't Monster Land. See the list. (Monster Land is a version of "Wonder Boy 2"/ Monster World 1", while Dragon's Curse is a version of "Wonder Boy 4"/"Monster World 2")

Two little things; Monster World IV has been released on Japan's VC. Also, Monster Lair hasn't been released in Japan yet.

believe it or not, we (my brother and I separately) beat PS1 with no graphing. I was 14 at the time, he was 12. We did it all through trial and error (and sharing info with each other).. though both of us have excellent logic skills and reasonably decent short term memories.
 
Has Nintendo mentioned what's going to happen if I buy alot of VC games to a point where I cant fit all on the system and so when I want to play them again, I need to re-download them, but their online system has passed on?

i really hope with the announcement that game boy games will eventually make their way to v.c. in some form that game gear games do as well. there's a few pretty damn good games i'd gladly snatch up and play on a screen that wasn't blurry as hell and zapping the battery every twenty minutes

games are encrypted when downloaded like itunes songs. once you download a game it will work on your wii forever unless nintendo sends down some sort of firmware that locks all games out from your system (in which case you could just not accept such a firmware). Thus if you are really paranoid about VC going away within the next couple years, store all your games on an SD card, or to be really safe copy them from the SD card to your PC or a backup DVD or something.

We've only heard about rumored GB support (mostly as future DS functionality). GG is supposed to be supported on VC along with SMS although we've yet to see any GG games in Japan.

Game Gear games are already supposed to be included under the Master System label. Unlike Game Boy, GG is actually official.
 
nintendo will probably keep VC going indefintely. For the Wii successor they'll probably have a program where you can send your wii in to get your purchased VC games transferred to the new system.

This is my prediction only and is not based on any evidence.

And what happens if your console breaks? You can't just use those games in another console, you have to get the license transfered by Nintendo or something equally ridiculous.

That actually happened to my friend early on. His console froze while installing the Beta for the web browser, which bricked his system. Nintendo just sent him a points card.
 
Nintendo will already transfer your VC titles to another wii system if you send the broken one in. Relax, as long as you go through nintendo, you won't lose your VC games

Huh, alright. Fixed the bolding.

Monster World IV... it would be really, really great to see it of course, it's an amazing game. However, it'd be almost impossible to play untranslated. There is of course a fan rom translation patch, but they wouldn't use that and wouldn't translate it either... and left alone you really couldn't play a somewhat nonlinear game like that without a lot of help. So we probably won't see it on VC. :(

I've been saying this from the beginning, pretty much. Nintendo's "delete or store on SD" 'answer' is not an answer, in fact it is completely unacceptable, particularly for CD-based games (and later N64 games and the larger Neo-Geo ones as well). Their 'solution' is ridiculous.

I wouldn't be so sure just yet, SEGA did buy out KGEN and GiriGiri, so they have something of a history plucking work and talent from "the community". Then again, this is SEGA proper in Japan, and they likely don't care if us filthy Americans ever get to play MWIV either. :(
 
I'd buy Monster World IV even if it was in Japanese. I'd somehow stagger my way through it, I'm sure--I've gone through more expansive RPGs than that.

(I mean, DoReMi Fantasy has a translation patch too! But what is done? They put up the original Japanese version, that's what.)
