Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Yeah, it's terribly complicated. Because Windsor McKay likely created the strips work for hire for the newspaper it originally appeared in, it's likely that newspaper owns the rights to the strip and the license. You are right in that the license applies to a particular medium, and in this case it was a game cartridge for the NES. Releasing it in any other format (including even a compilation cartridge for the NES) likely falls outside of the original license and would require a new one.

This gets even worse. Because the game was in fact based on the movie, they would have to go back to the movie studio to get the permission, who would then have to contact the original copyright holder for their permission. For all we know, all of the copyright and license holders would LOVE to have the game rereleased... but there may be a point that it's not profitable to capcom to even assign someone to deal with the licensing issue let alone, let alone test the game and release it to sell a couple hundred copies.

this is one of those cases where I would really say it doesn't stand a chance.

Well... shit. I forgot that I do own the cartridge. The problem is the NES died about three years ago. Thanks for the information though.

And as bad as it is to say, things like this are exactly why piracy exists. Looking at is strictly from the perspective of a gamer, I could (a) hear all of these excuses as to why it would be so hard to get this game on the VC, have to wait while a ridiculously long amount of deals indeed were worked out, and then wait again until it finally shows up on the VC, or (b) shrug my shoulders and go download the ROM.

The absolute mess that is the world of licensing rights has become a nightmare to the push for digital distribution, and companies are either going to have to get this shit worked out ASAP or watch as more and more people just turn to piracy out of frustration.

1. Earthbound
2. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
3. Terranigma
4. Dracula X
5. Ys Books I and II

I also suggested returning to releasing three titles a week. They are probably laughing at me right now.

I included:

Ogre Battle 64
Ogre Battle
Tactics Ogre
Terranigma
Earthbound

.... what?

Yoshi's Cookie is good but I already have Nintendo Puzzle Collection so I don't need it. Recommended though if you don't own another version of it, great and very unique puzzle game :D

I'm counting on the Ogre games to never show up due to Square-Enix's seeming lack of desire to do anything with the series ever since they acquired it. :/

If Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Super Mario RPG were released, would that shut everyone up for awhile?
Not if they were followed by lots of one-game weeks.

Damn, I thought Yoshi and Yoshi's Cookie were the same game. Plz VC god, if this game must come out on Monday, give us something good to go along with it.

"Yoshi" is also known as "Mario & Yoshi"

While this is Yoshi Cookie:

Why not get the psx version with anime cutscenes? I know the load times are an issue but it has anime cutscenes!

Because it seriously gets to the point where I'd rather not play it than deal with those terrible load times.

I hope they give us the SNES version of Yoshi's Cookie. That one had a nifty limited move puzzle mode.

The lack of puzzle mode has put me off getting the NES version. That would've been perfect for me :(

So rip the game to your computer and play it on pSX(a purist emulator).

1. EarthBound (SNES)
2. Mother/EarthBound Zero (NES Import)
3. E.V.O.: The Search For Eden (SNES)
4. Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (TG16 Import)
5. Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom (NES)

It's the NES version that was put up, not the superior SNES version. The SNES version had an additional puzzle mode, 4 player multiplayer instead of 2, and better graphics and audio than the NES version.

Yea, we've been having a lot of those lately.

You guys seriously need a PSN account.

You're complaining that your $5 and $8 games aren't the $5 and $8 games you wanted, but you should try having more than enough money to own EVERYTHING, then still scrounging for stuff on the foreign store.

I do. I understand your pain. Echochrome is great, isn't it?

It's interesting, certainly fun and worth playing. I don't know if I would jump to "great", but yeah, everyone should own it.

Well, I don't have a PS3, but as an XBLA user, I do feel the pain of weeks that don't bring Ikaruga.

Thankfully, those should be ending shortly. :D

Based on what Europe got, I'm going to predict we see Yoshi's Cookie and Fantasy Zone (SMS) on Monday, which would make for a fairly decent if not slightly underwhelming week (which, nowadays, is pretty good).

Oh, and now that we've entered the month of April, I think I can safely say now that we have reached the one year anniversary of Sega's announcement that Vectorman would be coming to the US VC. Over one year later, and it still ain't here, even though it's out everywhere else. Join me again in September or so when we reach the one year anniversaries for ESWAT and Crack Down's announcements. Seriously, people. What the hell.

You know folks, it could be that BPS retains some rights to the SNES version while Nintendo owns all the rights to the NES/GB versions... which may mean we'd never see the SNES version.

This is what would be amazing:

If Nintendo released the entire Mother series on VC. Honestly, the one I'm holding out for is Earthbound, but let's be honest: there has to be a reason that Lucas is such a high profile character in Super Smash Brothers. They tested the waters for Fire Emblem here with Melee, obviously they are doing the same thing with Lucas.

If I could get Mother 1-3 all on my Wii, it would be unreal.

Of course, this won't happen.

P.S.: Rondo of Blood please, thanks.

Nintendo's reason is that they like poking Amir0x and Canadian with sticks. Pointy sticks. With a note in the center that says ha ha ha. Wearing a Pokey mask.

OFLC update, holy shit imports galore!

-Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou
-Star Parodier
-Digital Champ: Battle Boxer
-Cho Aniki :lol :lol :lol

EDIT: And all of those are Turbo games, so Hudson is really being awesome.

Whoa, mama! To quote a certain celebutante, that's hot.

Guess this means I can amend my list to be submitted to Nintendo a bit.

Wow, Gradius 2, Star Parodier, and Cho Aniki were pretty much the entirety of my "Wanted TG-16 imports" list (besides the ubiquitous Dracula X), so this sure does take care of things, assuming we get all this in the US as well.

Man, I hope Cho Aniki comes out over here, it'd be hilarious.
