Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

4 games AGAIN?

When will it be that AMERICA receives 4 games again??
How often has the US even gotten a week with 4 games? The only one I can remember is Landstalker/DK Jr. Math/Adventure Island/Bonk 3.

It's very bad as a phantasy star. As an RPG, it's barely passable, but passable nonetheless. Going through and beating it you will get well more than $8 of entertainment value from it.
I would argue that although you will get $8+ of entertainment value out of PSIII, the time costs required to get that $8 is so significant that it would degrade the entertainment value. You won't be having anti-fun but at the same time you'll almost certainly look back and think "jeez, I could have spent those 20 hours of my life doing all sorts of better things, including playing better, more fulfilling games". Don't get me wrong, a lot of games I've played and would recommend as being worth the dollar value aren't exactly life-enhancing experiences, but PSIII, especially in this day and age, is just not worth it. There are far better and similarly priced games on every platform, if only through BC.

And to cut off criticism, I know that the same charges can be levelled at a lot (most) of the VC games (like RCR, various shmups, etc), but none of them require the kind of time that PSIII will, and most of them are decent examples of the history of gaming (unlike PSIII).

^ for me that's part of the beauty of VC...being able to play older games that stuck to the quick play formula. Pop it in, play for a while, and pop out. Quick, easy, arcade-y fun. :)

On the bright side, the megaton/failton meter for today's PR can't possibly fall too far, because it does include River City Ransom at the least. Still, let's see how low it can go.

-4: RCR is the only game
-2.5: RCR + shovelware that nobody wants
0: RCR + two shovelware titles that nobody wants
1.5: RCR + three shovelware titles that nobody wants
3: RCR + game that a few people want
6: RCR + game that many people want
7: RCR + game that many people want + shovelware that nobody wants
10: RCR + two games that many people want

My bet's on -2.5.

I'm guessing RCR and Phantasy Star 3, which, despite PS3 being a bit iffy, is still a decent set of titles.

If any of the rated-over-a-year-ago-then-mysteriously-removed games was suddenly released, I'd consider it a miniton of sorts.

Jiggy, are you trying to inflate your post count in this thread? I see nothing but twirling cartoon girl everywhere I look. Wait, don't answer that. Just don't.

I have the original RCR and I have RCR Advance for the GBA but I will most definitely pick it up on the VC just to support it. God I love that game.

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

Helping out your friends is often as easy as a ride to the airport or a kind word of advice. But when they fall victim to dastardly kidnappers, things get a little more complicated. Step up and find out what it takes to rescue your imperiled pals in the latest additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel. Both of these classic titles feature distinctive rescue-driven storylines and villain-busting action to help bring out your inner hero. Isn’t that what friends are for?

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

River City Ransom™ (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older—Mild Suggestive Themes and Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points): River City Ransom takes place in River City, where our heroes, Alex and Ryan, find a letter on Ryan’s locker from a guy named Slick. The letter says that Ryan’s girlfriend, Cyndi, has been kidnapped, and Slick has taken River City hostage with the help of countless gangs and evil bosses. It’s up to our heroes to save poor Cyndi and free River City from the clutches of Slick and his underlings. You can play as Alex and take on the challenge alone or battle with two players simultaneously as Alex and Ryan. Kick and punch to fight your way through gang members, evil bosses and other goons, or use a variety of weapons including a chain whip, brass knuckles and a tire, to name a few. Raise your stats by eating right, and gain new techniques by reading books. With your fighting prowess and never-ending spirit, the bad guys won’t know what hit them.

Phantasy Star™ III Generations of Doom (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): As Rhys, the crown prince of the Orakian kingdom of Landen, you are engaged to be married to Maia, a woman from a rival kingdom. But Maia is kidnapped on your wedding day, setting you on a quest filled with twists and turns that will reintroduce you to people and places from previous Phantasy Star games. This epic spans several generations of characters, and your choices will dramatically impact the way the story unfolds, which makes it a great game to play all the way through more than once. In Phantasy Star III, things aren’t always what they seem—check it out and watch the mysteries unfold.

That's a good week. PS3 is fairly medicore, from my experiances, but if you enjoy the PS games, then I would probably tell you to get it.

RCR on the other hand is fan-fucking-tastic..

Also, Zombies Ate my Neighbors is an amazing game.

I was about to say "it's still never a good week until we return to three games," but then I realized that the joke ratings system I came up with would call this a 6, which is technically above average. Clearly I've got to amend that thing; even as a joke or exaggeration, it's not allowed to stand.

Edit: Nah, but seriously, it's an above-average week. Would still have preferred to see another piece of shovelware crammed in there and sent to die, though.

PS III is cool in that if you like it you'll have a game worth replaying many times.

But the real best part of PS III? It means PS IV is coming, so I don't have to buy the Genny collection for one game!

After it was taken out of Brawl, even I'm close to giving up on seeing Earthbound on VC.

...Because they're clearly making that DS compilation instead. Believe?

Finally.

Will be the first week in a long time that I actually purchase something from VC. Looking forward to both!

Fixed for accuracy (but not truth).

Exactly. They didn't take EB out of the US version just for spite, considering the game on VC is basically free money for them. It has to be something else.

It's a race between me and Canadian. Who will get their VC game first?
You, unless either 1) ESRB ratings have truly ceased to mean anything for the future of VC, or 2) Nintendo wants to make miracles happen.

Edit: The real race is between you/me/schuelma/ethelred (Shining Force II) and Dragona (Ys Book I & II). Whose months-delayed game will arrive sooner?

Wait, Zombies Ate My Neighbors over Earthbound for vc?

Considering EB is coming to the DS this fall ZAMN wins hardcore.

SNES or Genesis though...hmmm.
