Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

So wait, do we create The Ultimate Awesome WiiWare Discussion Thread now?

Since threads by PantherLotus are just filled with screenshots and nobody cares.

Hmm. Then to the Starmen.net forums we go!

...

Okay, I can't find anything over there. I appear to be hopeless.

Only one man is a bad enough dude to do that.

Really, though, it would make more sense to change the title of this thread (yet again) and just put VC and Wii Ware announcements in here. I mean, the thread still pertains to games released in the Wii Shop.

I posted that link. He hasn't posted anything today, though he has been online.

It's possible NOA is going to delay the update release list this time, given the launch of Wii Ware... possibly.

I think it's in everyone's best interest for Nintendo to hand out PR on at least WiiWare tonight, but this is Nintendo, so who knows.

I also support rolling WiiWare releases into the VC thread - after all, that's how NOA is doing it - but that's just my opinion.

Way outta the loop. Why was our favorite boy wonder PR scooper banned?

Anyways, can't wait for Monday. Especially Dr. Mario RX (love how you can play online with friends who haven't even bought it) and Star Soldier R. They could at least throw us a bone on VC though. Pretend it's still alive during all the hoopla.

Holy crap, it's only $19.99 now?

How does it pull that off? Can I play against future generations, too?

:lol I'm pretty sure the way it works is if you own it you can send a MP-only copy to a friend so they can play against you, along the same lines as DS download play.

Holy fuck.

It uses Jim Halpert "future fax" technology. :p

No but seriously, there was an IGN preview recently which clearly stated you can send a multiplayer only copy of the game. IIRC it lets you do this simply by sending a request to your friends' Wii system #s using the message board.

Anyways, I'm guessing SS:R won't be launch but they'd be sadistic fools not to have Dr. Mario for us day 1.

Every week will now be an agonizing wait for the PR if its late, and we still haven't received EarthBound yet.
for me, at least :(

Take comfort in the fact that it's been ESRB-rated. I know I do. :D

This lack of news is disturbing....
err...I dont see why. I mean we are only getting WiiWare games this week and Nintendo wants to keep the launch titles secret so I dont see why its disturbing, we just probally have to wait to Monday.

Sucks they we will have to wait till Monday (Well most likely anywayz) Hope they atleast have the pr up by 7 am on monday like they always do...if not it'll be very hard to decide which titles to get with the shop running 100x slower than normal and just finding out what the launch titles are...

JohnTinker said:
Hopefully we can buy them also through the Nintendo Channel, which seems to run a lot faster
You can buy almost any VC game or channel on the Nintendo Channel. probally the same for wiiware but onthe Nintendo Channel it just loads the shop channel up to purchase it.

The Shop Channel's speed is fine for me tho. Takes 5-10 seconds to load it then after that takes 1 second to load a new page...

However I predict all day Monday the shop will be 100x slower than normal because of WiiWare's launch. It was the same for the Japanese wiware launch...

NINTENDO LAUNCHES WiiWARE:

AN OPEN PLAYGROUND FOR CREATIVITY
Downloadable Game Service Delivers Developers’ New Ideas Directly to Consumers

REDMOND, Wash., May 12, 2008 – Nintendo’s Wii™ console has already changed the way people play games. Now its new WiiWare™ service decisively tears down limitations for how developers create games – and the way people receive them.

Starting today, Wii owners with an Internet connection can download new, creative games from a wide range of developers, from large publishers to indie shops. By reducing the barriers that make console game development prohibitively expensive, WiiWare showcases original ideas in the most democratic environment in industry history, connecting the people who make games more directly with the people who play them.

WiiWare frees developers from the traditional constraints of video game development. WiiWare lets developers experiment with big ideas and small budgets to the benefit of players everywhere. Newer, smaller teams now have an outlet for their creative ideas. The constantly growing WiiWare library will have a regular flow of unique video gaming experiences consumers might not otherwise have access to.

“WiiWare is to the video game industry what independent films are to Hollywood,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “WiiWare lets developers experiment with new ideas and experiences. Combined with our collection of classic Virtual Console games, Wii provides one-stop shopping for the greatest games of the past – and the future.”

WiiWare games are easy to download. Just go to the WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel, find the game you want, redeem Wii Points™ and start the download. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. New games, at various Wii Point values, will be added to WiiWare on Mondays. The newly launched Nintendo Channel on Wii will let people view videos of and read information about WiiWare games and other Nintendo products. Users also can see player opinions to help them decide what to play next.

Today, the inaugural lineup of WiiWare games is just a taste of things to come:

FINAL FANTASY® CRYSTAL CHRONICLES®: My Life as a King™ (Square Enix, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, 1,500 Wii Points): FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King takes a legendary franchise and launches it into the realm of simulation gaming. Players are challenged to rebuild a kingdom, leading its young king on a path of discovery through an adventure bristling with mystery and intrigue.

LostWinds™ (Frontier Development, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): A fresh, enchanting platform adventure that puts the power of the wind in the palm of your hand – from raging tornados to the gentlest breeze. You’ll wield your Wii Remote™ controller to power Toku’s jumps and glides, suspend and smash enemies, meet friends and solve puzzles using LostWinds’ novel, intuitive and playful control system.

Defend your Castle™ (XGen Studios, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone – Cartoon Violence, 500 Wii Points): Defend your Castle takes place on a grassy plain surrounded by invaders. You are the commander of your castle, and it is your duty to fling the invading enemies sky-high, watching them plummet to their demise. As you progress, add powerful spells and upgrades to your arsenal for repelling the attacks. How long can you hold them off?

Pop™ (Nnooo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 700 Wii Points): Pop bubbles to score points and stop the timer from running out. Pop can be enjoyed by anyone – casual gamers can simply play to pop bubbles and keep the game moving, whereas advanced players will need to pick their shots rapidly and accurately and generate combos to maximize their score.

V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack™ (High Voltage Software®, Inc., 1-4 players, Rated T for Teen – Simulated Gambling, 700 Wii Points): V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack re-creates the casino experience, with fully animated players and a realistic Las Vegas dealer. Single players can increase their bankrolls, while multiple players can engage in a head-to-head mini-blackjack tournament.

TV Show King (Gameloft, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): TV Show King transforms your living room into a real TV quiz show studio where you’ll face the challenge of answering more than 3,000 questions across six different categories. Compete against family and friends and use your Wii Remote controller in original ways to make it to the finals to see who can win the greatest amount of cash in one final, deciding duel.

Downloading Pop, Lostwinds, and Defend Your Castle.

Can not freaking wait...Im hyped now....2 more days oh yea

Interesting. An entirely third-party launch. I also wonder how Pop ended up a 700 point game; at least from the description, it sounds like the simplest of the bunch.

Hey guys I know that you may not need a (or another) blackjack game, but buy V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack. We gotta put some stock into High Voltage. They may be the premiere WiiWare game company (see: Gyrostarr, Animales de la Muerte).

Uh, yeah. No.

Gyrostarr looks awful and I don't want a blackjack game.

Erm, how about no?

But blackjack and the TV quiz show games actually don't sound bad on paper. If they get a decent reception, I might bite.

I had a feeling we wouldn't see an VC games. Fuck.

Anything they would've released would've been overshadowed by WiiWare anyway. Imagine the uproar if Earthbound had been released and brushed aside Monday.

My vid

http://youtube.com/watch?v=WoRTnVWV6C8

I have no VC Console games on there. Just channels, Brawl, and around 50 blocks of saved date on around 100 VC games and 20 Disk games.

Seriously need some storage here!

Yea I know theres no point in keeping the MP3C vid but I only put it on the wii because without it the name of the video would make no sense :lol

EDIT: :lol at Zero games aweek!

Wouldn't "Zero games a week" imply a continuation and not just an specific week where there was a very good reason not to release any?
