WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL
June 2, 2008
From family-friendly puzzles to crackling combat, this week's additions to the Wii Shop Channel offer a mix of downloadable delights. Fight fans can even choose between futuristic space missions and retro-styled martial arts battles. Take your pick and kick off the summer with an invigorating dose of Wii action.
Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
WiiWare
Protöthea (UbiSoft, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Protöthea is a top-down scrolling shooter game with free movement that puts players in complete control of a last-generation spaceship. The mission is to destroy the asteroid called Maqno 01 and finish with the plans of The Core. UbiSoft's Protöthea introduces new concepts to a beloved, classic game style while mixing genres and utilizing the full capabilities of the Wii console, from graphics to controls. Players of all ages and experience levels will enjoy taking command of their ship, blasting through four different worlds in 10 challenging missions. Use your weapons arsenal and the special bonus items to help you accomplish your mission, and don't forget to slow down time and take an edge over the enemy.

At what rate? WiiWare has been out for less than a month in both region's and we've already deduced the rate at which VC and WiiWare games will be released in both?RedBoot said:Ugh, so much for the US starting to get the import titles. I was trying to determine which ones they'd start with, but it's not even happening.
At this rate, Europe will have more available VC games than the US pretty soon. At the end of last year, such a thing would have been laughable.

Seems like a poor approach to analysis.
RedBoot said:Uh, what?
The US has 227 VC titles. Europe has 222. That's a difference of five. At the end of last year, the US had a lead of like 30-40 titles, and with Europe's slow release pace at the time, it would have been impossible for them to get close at all.
Take out C64 and what's the difference?RedBoot said:Uh, what?

Now the difference is small, and Europe gets 3-4 titles a week compared to our 1-2. I think it's a pretty clear deduction. The main point to take away from this is that the US's VC release rate sucks compared to the other two territories (which we've known for some time).

does anyone know how this works?A second player can help you out by drawing hints while you are playing.
The other person grabs a Wii remote and draws on the screen. It will disappear after some seconds though.birdchili said:does anyone know how this works?
um.... wow. that's a pretty weak "feature" to list in your promo material. this is what makes it "1-2 players"?Capndrake said:The other person grabs a Wii remote and draws on the screen. It will disappear after some seconds though.

Metal Slug, last week?handofg0d said:When was the last quality release for the Virtual Console?
Oh come on... Metal Slug? RCR? PStar III? Pokemon PL?handofg0d said:Oh really? Overreaction? When was the last quality release for the Virtual Console? I've got a load of points rotting in my account longer than I can remember.
It's not about this week, or even recent weeks, it's about recent MONTHS.

I really don't see what's that bad about 1 great game a week. That's 52.177 great games per year, more than enough to clean out your fridge several times. I'm not saying I wouldn't appreciate more than one great game (I'd say last week we got two), but the amount of negativity around these parts is blistering.
If Z&W can do it...
Metal Slug Anthology, frankly isn't worth buying, even at it's bargin bin price. I'll gladly take a perfect port, no loading, game selection and CC play, for a few bucks more thanks.handofg0d said:I'll give you Metal Slug but it's not worth buying at that price - you should just get Metal Slug Anthology.
River City Ransom - Ok.
The rest you named aren't my cup of tea.
And here are some numbers to chew on.
We are in June mind you - half way through the year.
Virtual Console Releases in 2008:
NES: 13 (Of which, all but 3 (StarTropics, RCR, Double Dragon) sucked.
SNES: 6, all suck (How many editions of Street Fighter 2 do we need on SNES VC?)
N64: 4- Pac Attack, 1080, Cruisn, PPL - you be the judge
SMS: 1, lol
GEN: 6, 2 of which are OK (PSIII x2)
TG16: 3, 2 of which are extra cost and none of which are worth a purchase
NEO: 3, Metal Slug and crap
GRAND TOTAL: 36 games, 4 of which I would *consider* purchasing.
DoReMi fantasy, Super and Mega Turrican, Lolo 2, Ninja Gaiden 3 all "suck"? Lords of Thunder isn't worth 8 bucks? The problem isn't with the Virtual Console, its with your shitty taste.handofg0d said:I'll give you Metal Slug but it's not worth buying at that price - you should just get Metal Slug Anthology.

not your cup of tea doesn't make the service suck, just as far as your concerned. The VC has actually had a good number of great releases this year, as many have pointed out. No one is objectively saying the VC has been worthless this year.handofg0d said:The rest you named aren't my cup of tea.

AugustDivision said:It doesn't matter to people like you guys though. You'll complain now when the releases are trickling out, and you would complain if they put out 3 or 4 a week and in a couple years they said "sorry we have nothing left."
