Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Star Parodier + Break In, nice (both have great music to boot). Two PC Engine imports (and Strong Bad hopefully) will make for the best week in a long time. Shame I'll have to move a channel onto my near useless SD card (at least it's high speed and can also store my many Smash custom stages and snaps) It aint gonna be S&P though so bye bye My Nintendo and Check Mii Out. I would probably only have to delete one of them though if I could just move my Brawl and MK saves onto card, but noooooo. To Iwata and Shigs that's apparently just too much flexibility for one Nintendo customer to handle.

Nintendo gets no pat on the back from me. I just don't have it in me to say congratulations after twelve weeks of them bringing the pain by putting up Nothing I Wanted on VC and now this coming Monday where they'll be putting up what looks like a fantastic game--but only after still finding a way to bring the pain with a conference so intrinsically and mind-bendingly abhorrent that even I drowned my sorrows and drank myself into a stupor after E3 was over. Downed six bottles in just a couple hours. These were water bottles, mind you, because I don't do that alcohol stuff, but still. :/

Anyway, putting all that aside, it's not Hudson's fault that I've finally turned against the last of the big three that I even moderately appreciated, so I'll try to be cheery. Star Parodier will still be fantastic, and I'm perfectly fine with clearing up space for it by erasing Gyrostarr and never, ever seeing that game's loathsome existence again. But enough cameo mentions for horrible games. If you like space shooters, go check out this gameplay video of Star Parodier if you haven't already, and this gameplay video too while you're at it, and maybe you'll feel as I do, which is that it's great to have games that are accessible and colorful and charming and have very simple controls and super catchy music, all while not abandoning the wonderful invention known as skill.

Give us Mario RPG or EarthBound to satiate angry Nintendo fans post-E3, Nintendo.
Most anger at or disappointment with Nintendo after E3 is directed at where they're going in the future, so I don't see how reminders of where they've been throughout their past would change much of anything.

Holy flip. :O :O :O I'd never gone looking around before, but Star Parodier has this awesome and thoroughly cheesy four-minute intro which you can see here (along with the whole first level) showing how
a bunch of Bombermans!
construct and launch the three playable ships. :D And also there's a great amount of Japanese voice acting (both in the intro and the actual gameplay), none of which I hope is removed or changed for the VC release. Partly since it appeals to my weeaboo, Western-gaming-hating self and partly since it fits so perfectly well with Star Parodier's transcendental soundtrack. So happy!

Bah, humbug. I can't help it if Hudson changed their protocol during the five month layoff. They've always been in order of release, until now of course. :lol A nice surprise for the people anticipating Star Parodier though. :D So, I guess that means Chase HQ, a new WiiWare title (Pirates: Key of Dreams?) and maybe another VC game TBD for next week?

Well we know that the first Mega Man is being released SOMETIME and SOON.

Nintendo can't disappoint me forever!!

Something is going to have to GIVE
Your Wii will break as you are trying to buy the game.

And a laughing Ganon silhouette will appear on my screen.

I've got a feeling guys that I won't be the only one not dissapointed tomorrow.

PS IV, SF II, SMRPG, MM. One or even more of those will be mine tomorrow!

The only way anyone should have nothing to buy tomorrow is if at least one of these conditions is met:

1) They don't like space shooters
2) They refuse to delete games to clear up space
3) They refuse to play TG16 games on VC due to the blur filter
4) They refuse to pay 100 extra points for imports
5) They hate colorful gaming
6) Star Parodier somehow turns out to not be incredibly flipping awesome despite that it looks incredibly flipping awesome in every video I've watched

Take a look at it now and take a look it again and then buy it tomorrow. I may sound like a viral marketer or something, but I really loved Super Star Soldier and Soldier Blade and this looks better than either one by virtue of its lighthearted look and its three playable ships. And it'll be not just the first VC game I've bought since April, but the first Wii game I've bought on the day of its arrival since April, period. So happy that I want to share the love and whatnot.

That and they are basically out of Wiiware games for the time being.

I expect the Strong Bad game at 9 am -- given that it was last given a "July" release and I can't think of any other Wii Ware game that might appear.

You know, I kind of wish that Nintendo's error screen was the "I AM ERROR" quote.

Anyway, I'm eagerly anticipating Star Parodier. I like shmups, awful at them though I may be, and a shmup that happens to be bright and colourful is right up my alley.

Now until we get Parodius, this'll have to do.

:lol Apparently Hudson lied to you guys, you don't get any TG game this week. It's still a good week though, you get 2 other imports instead:

Wii-kly Update

One WiiWare Game and Two Virtual Console Games Added to Wii Shop Channel
Which do you prefer: sailing the ocean or soaring through the sky? With the latest additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel, players can choose between seafaring action and high-flying thrills. Unleash your inner pirate with a new WiiWare™ adventure, or check out a pair of side-scrolling Sega Genesis classics making their Virtual Console™ debut. By air and by sea, big fun is on the way.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Pirates: The Key of Dreams (Oxygen Games, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Pirates: The Key of Dreams is a frantic nautical shoot-'em-up. Sail your way across the Caribbean, cannons blazing, looting booty, running blockades and ultimately battling Blackbeard himself. The player takes control of a navy captain sent deep undercover as a ruthless pirate in order to seek out and retrieve the Key of Dreams, a valuable and dangerous cursed artifact. Rescue castaways to bolster your ship's crew, gaining performance increases to your navigation, weaponry, structural integrity and cartography skills. Collect increasingly powerful weaponry including rockets, mines, chain shot, saw blades and a flamethrower to hurl destruction into the path of your enemies. Play against three of your scurvy friends or A.I. opponents in pitched multiplayer battles over 35 levels, set in seven themed environments. Choose from different ship types that reflect your play style. Play in turbo mode if you're pirate enough.

Virtual Console

Super Fantasy Zone (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Cartoon Violence, 900 Wii Points): The last entry in the Fantasy Zone series, this side-scrolling shooter puts you in the shoes of main character ***-***, who is on a mission to avenge the death of his father. To do so, you'll have to battle a variety of Enemy Generators to clear out the various levels and finish off the Menon Guardian at the end of the level. Eliminating your enemies will let you rack up some gold, which you can use to buy even better weapons, upgrades and other equipment. Spend your gold wisely, as each different boss you need to defeat presents a unique challenge.

Gley Lancer (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older—Mild Suggestive Themes, Mild Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): In the year 2025, a war breaks out between humans and a hostile alien race, and 16-year-old Lucia and the rest of the starfighter pilots in the Earth Federation must join the battle. When Lucia's father is kidnapped by the aliens, she decides to take action and hijacks a brand new prototype starfighter, the Gley Lancer, in order to try to save him. In this side-scrolling shooter, step into the cockpit of the Gley Lancer as Lucia, rescue your father and destroy the evil aliens that are bent on destroying the human race.

Fantasy Zone's main character's name is blocked out? wat

That cements it; NoA and Hudson ARE in a life and death blood feud. :lol How utterly bizarre. Maybe NoA wanted to embarrass them since they have the audacity to actually announce their releases in advance. I wish someone could give us some inside scoop on what exactly is going with that situation.

The WiiWare game is also different than what IGN announced. Maybe NoA pulled a last minute switcheroo for some reason?

Huh.

That's a very shooter week. I wonder what that Pirates game is like.
I deemed it worthy of a 5/10. It's too repetitive to hold your attention for too long, its saving grace is the moderately enjoyable versus mode.

Gley Lancer and Super Fantasy Zone are both great, really. Neither is as good as Star Parodier but they're two of the best Mega Drive/Genesis shoot 'em ups.

Too many unspent Wii points on my account waiting for new cool releases. I just bought Bomberman '93 for the turbografx because at least that's guaranteed multiplayer fun.

Despite the letdown of not receiving the first TubroGrafx-16 titles since February, I have to agree with this. Based solely on VC titles, this is the best week in quite a while. Maybe disappointing in terms of genre selection, but after the slew of fighting games and side scrolling beat 'em ups, two shooters are actually a breath of fresh air in a way.

Cool releases, but nothing I'm that interested in. Pirates is upsetting for WiiWare, leaving next week as the last possible week for StrongBad to get released and still meet its "sometime in July" release date.

After reading your review, I think I'm going to have to pass on it. One of the things I was looking forward too was the possible Caribbean style music. Maybe a little steel drum every now and again. But, the game does sound a bit dull. Not bad, per se, just not quite what I was looking for. Thanks.

From what we've heard from WiiWare developers the next two weeks will have:

28th July:
-Strong Bad Episode 1
-Pong Toss

4th August:
-Plättchen

Any possibility of Strong Bad Episode 1 for Europe?

Two new games on the ESRB (Both already on the OFLC so not new):

Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System SEGA of America Everyone No Descriptors Wii

I bet that would be a fun read. I'll have to hunt that down someday.

Yeah people were freaking out over the Sonic rating yesterday for some reason. I guess I hang out here so much I'm usually up to date on these things.

I didn't realize the filter was blocking o.pa. It's an old holdover from days past, a forum where perma-banned Gaffers like Olimario would go to.

Splatterhouse 2? FUCK YEAR. Now, I wait for Cruis'n World...

What? That was the only Cruis'n game to get a competent home port...
