Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

SO Mega Man and SSII for tomorrow?

Wow, that's, uh...2 out of 2 for me.

I wonder how many points I have...I haven't downloaded jack since....Samurai Showdown 1.

Tomorrow we are getting Strongbad, Mega Man, and Samurai Showdown II.

I know this for 100% fact and I am willing to take a ban bet on this.

We are 100% getting those three games tomorrow. No Ys, no SMRPG.

It has begun.

Mega Man and SamSho II are certainly reasons to celebrate, but why oh why Nintendo/Hudson/Jesus can't I finally have Ys?!?

It's like they are actively avoiding releasing any RPGs. There's still a ton we're waiting for. Ys 1 and 2, PS4, SF2, SMRPG, EB...

You can never be 100% when it concerns Mega Man on the virtual console.

Oh god, now we're having ban bets over which games are or aren't getting released in the VC thread?

It's gotten so bad, people are committing account suicide.

Chamellion, it's not too late. We're here for you.

Wait until tomorrow and I will be praised as the next Kagari.

Well you might end up being right about tomorrow (given that the PRs are written and finished by Friday, it's not unrealistic to expect that people have them early), but I'm not sure that's a comparison you want to be making about yourself given her less-than-stellar track record at this point.

you mean you also work at EB and pretend that makes you an "industry insider" because attention whoring based upon your gender didn't work?

It was nice knowing you.

And by "knowing you", I mean "not knowing you", because I have no idea who you are.

Mega Man is (hopefully) confirmed, but I'm fairly certain we'll get Ys, if vc-pce.com is any indication.

lol. I would laugh if no one took the ban bet and Cham turned out to be wrong and was STILL banned by a mod tomorrow just for pure arrogance. :lol

You all have me to thank for this, by the way. I neglected to take my Wii with me, and now two to three games I would buy in a second are coming out tomorrow. Just my luck...

I won't have my Wii next week either, so look forward to good releases then as well (though we may know already based on Hudson's site).

Did you SEE Kagari's tag?

I'll take your ban bet, shit, if both StrongBad and Megaman comes out tomorrow I'm set for the next two weeks. Good luck, junior!

You reminded me . . . the 2008.08.11 dates for Star Parodier and Break In have been removed and replaced by a generic 2008.08. So, I'm guessing both games have been pushed back to later this month. NoA seems to really want to space out Import weeks.

I find it to be one of the best PCE games, and it's the first two games in my second favorite game series. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I adore the games.

Despite the "unusual" gameplay, Ys I&II are a joy to play and worth more than the mere 800 points they're .asking.

Too bad it won't be released tomorrow/Iwanttobelieve.jpg

Given that I am going to spend most of this week down at Disneyland with family, it would make sense for this to be the week when several good titles get released.

lol....kinda snuck that VC game in there and no one is paying attention....
I'm picking it up for sure, even though I have the Anniversary Collection....now for those corrected controls...

Four summers ago when I bought the AC, I had a contact from the Shmups board mod a GC hori pad for me with a switch on the back which lets me reverse A and B for proper jump 'n shoot. So worth it. It's one of my fave controllers. Also works great with the Sonic Collections and Gradius III as well. No VC Mega Man (except for Wii Ware MM 9 of course) or Sonic 800 point rip off spending needed here. :)

Got the AC for about 19.99 for 9 diff MM titles. Got both Sonic comps for about $12 each used. $24 for all the Genny games, Sonic CD, the game gear titles AND extras like Ristar, both Vector Man 1 and 2 (there's an extra 2400 points saved right there) vs. 32 bucks for just Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles. Kind of eclipses "the convenience of having it right" there.

AC is a shoddy port, but the price is right. It looks bad, sounds bac, and has weird slowdown issues. A lazy port of a lazy playstation port.

That being said I'll definately buy MM2 just to have a great version always availible.

Probably MM1 the first time I have 500 points just burning a hole in my account.

AC looks and plays fine to me. But yeah, a more faithful port of MM 2 would be very welcome on my channel line up. Still gotta go with the compilations though. It's no problem for me to get off my couch and switch a disk.

can you give em the lowdown on the "unusual" gameplay bit? Just so everything's clear :)

Yes, you ram into enemies to hurt them (I also remember the game looking better so that's time's effect for ya). Yes, you have to grind (although not too much iirc). I'm going to hesitantly state that if you're not a big fan of anime/JRPGs, to the point where what you long to play are (pre-)SNES games to the exclusion of modern games, you aren't going to like this.

I'm trying to think of other games that have similar "over-eager" internet fanbases that were good games at the time of release, unique enough not to be forgotten, but still not really worth playing ever again, and all I can come up with is Faxanadu.

a much better video. This one shows the amount of variety in locations and some of the clever presentation things done ("reflections" on the ice). Book 2 was pretty epic for the time.

The thing with the Ys games, or at least the earlier ones, is that it's a little easy to powerlevel.

The "ramming" method of attack works in light of the 4 way directional controls. I sometimes wish Zelda I and others of its early top-down action ilk used this same engine, as it's a lot quicker.

Was there a Ys that was strictly a side-scroller and it came out on the SNES? Wanderers from Ys? That's the only game in the series I've played, and then it was just a weekend rental.

It was one of those games that had minimally animated anime styled cinematics that looked so damn amazing for the time.

WII-KLY UPDATE: ONE WIIWARE GAME AND TWO VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Aug. 4, 2008

The list of available games for Wii™ owners just keeps on growing as we add another trio of titles to the Wii™ Shop Channel. This week's lineup features Old West thrills, supernatural chills and a little blue hedgehog whose name you're sure to recognize. Thanks to Nintendo's WiiWare™ downloadable game service and the classic-filled Virtual Console™, building your own blockbuster video game library has never been easier.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Wild West Guns (Gameloft, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen—Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Draw your revolver to see if you're the fastest gun in the West. Adjust your speed and precision as targets or enemies appear in front of you. Point and shoot to earn more points. You can aim at anything, so be sure to explore the environment for elements that will earn you more shooting points. Identify your enemies among the characters you encounter, but don't shoot at innocent citizens. Take part in an Old West-style train attack, or challenge your skills in a variety of increasingly difficult shooting challenges in other beautiful, classic and lively Western environments. As you progress through challenges, you'll earn medals and rewards, making for nonstop, addictive action. Play in a two-player multiplayer mode where you and your partner can combine points, or play against each other to find out who's the fastest gun in the West.

Virtual Console

Sonic The Hedgehog™ (Sega Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Based on the original Sega Genesis version, Sonic The Hedgehog was re-created as the first Sonic game for the Sega Master System. Not just a straight port, this version includes new stages, bosses, some different zones and a level map. The most noticeable difference, however, is that the Chaos Emeralds have to be found within certain stages other than the Special Stages. Dash through six Zones (including special zones that were only available for the Sega Master System version) and face Dr. Eggman (a.k.a. Dr. Robotnik) at the end of every Zone.

SPLATTERHOUSE™ 2 (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated M for Mature—Blood and Gore, Violence, 800 Wii Points): SPLATTERHOUSE 2 is the sequel to SPLATTERHOUSE, released only on the Sega Genesis. A few months after escaping from the first mansion in SPLATTERHOUSE, the main character, Rick, once again encounters the Terror Mask and must use its powers to rescue his beloved Jennifer. Rick will need to punch, slash, smash and even chainsaw his way through a haunted mansion against unspeakable horrors and terrifying bosses to make it out alive.

:( :( :(

This is pure and utter madness. I hope this is just a practical joke that Capcom, Hudson, SNK, and Nintendo played on us this week. It's a really bad sign if companies are trying to hype their releases (no matter how miniscule the promotion), and then Nintendo switches the date on them. If I were Capcom, Hudson, or SNK, and I thought my game was coming this week, I'd be pretty miffed right now.

Oh my god. FINALLY we get the SUPERIOR MASTER SYSTEM VERSION of Sonic The Hedgehog. Considered by many to be this games TRUE FORM. I'm going to buy it 3 times.

And SPLATTERHOUSE 2 is way better than lame old Megaman. Would you rather shoot ugly circles out of your arm, or would you rather slice people up with an AWESOME AXE!

I'm going to buy a 4th Wii so that I can buy Sonic 4 times.

Wow, that press release was like the one I read a year ago.

Sonic the Hedgehog for Master System? Word?

(I wonder if the Genesis Splatterhouse is better than the Shitty Turbografx one I bought A YEAR AGO)
