Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

This "Virtual Console" of sorts thing is pretty cool.

Thanks Nentindo.
in about a week, you'll just be as bitter as the rest of us.

I should be home in less than 3 hours. I'm ok with Paypal, and I can gift you Ys right away after getting home. I'll be buying it for myself in any event.

Cool thanks man. BTW, I can't pay in advance. Next payment comes on the 29th or around there. But if I don't pay you back, feel free to tell the admins to permaban me.

edit: actually, the next payment comes this Wednesday so I'll pay you back then.

It's still pretty stupid.
Indeed it is.

Anyway, i was serious when i was asking what this Ys is, since i never heard of it before.
I would buy it when [if] the game will hit PAL VC, but i don't think it will run on my HDTV.

I've never played this before. Yes, I have the original Ys on my SMS, but I only played that for a little bit years ago. I did DL this one without question though, since I know it's a quality game. I've heard the music many times over and it's nice to put a face to the sound, so to speak. One of Koshiro's best soundtracks ever. I just watched the intro and started my game for the first time, and yeah, it's not as mind blowing as anything today, but you know what? If I played this in 1990, I would have jumped out a window. Since about then I was pretty much just waiting for Dragon Warrior II to come out in NA. Just compare Ys at the time to like... I guess, Crystalis or something on the NES. (Nothing taken away from that fine game either, mind you, just that fact that it's a game from around a similar time.)

The graphics and sound and (!) voice acting are all excellent and top notch for it's time. EGM raved about this game in it's review so long ago and I can really see why.

I really like the overworld sprite look. Gives me a nice Lunar feel, except it's an action RPG instead of a traditional JRPG.

When I used to play PSO on the DC back in 2001 and briefly early 2002, I went by the same name as I do here, and I met a player named Dark Fact. We both used to joke that we were characters from 2 dead (in NA anyway) classic RPG series's and we'd muse on the old days of those game's long gone popularity and relevance. He'd joke that he was looking for Adol in the PSO game and I'd mention that I guess I'd have to stand in for Adol instead. =P Anyway...

I imagine that guy must be pretty happy now, whoever and wherever he is. :D

Seriously, people... Get Ys if you like Adventure RPG's at all in the slightest. It's one of the cornerstones of the entire genre. I want more people to play this gem but even moreso:

I want people today to *appreciate* it.

That's fine. PM me your Wii Console Number, and I'll PM you mine, and my Paypal addy.

I don't have any physical money on me and I don't want to wait for shipping.

No physical money? If you're using PayPal, you must have a checking account and could therefore hit up an ATM and get a points card at any brick and mortar.

Nintendo punished us adults with these damn Wii Points so people like you could download things without needing a credit card.

Savings account actually.

I have some extra money this week that I was going to save for any Fire Pro Wrestling game on the VC, but since Spike won't ever release Japan only Fire Pro's to the US Virtual Console, I'll buy Ys this week and see what it is all about.

Hope it's some sort of irony i'm too stupid to understand, because if they are serious... fuck this.

I don't completely support what that comic is saying, but I can kind of understand the bitterness that can exist in certain situations. It's like, Sega gave us a shitty re-working of Puyo Puyo Tsu on the Genesis, and then 10+ years later, we finally get the real game here in the US, and it's completely un-translated. Obviously companies have a completely different set of rules they have to play by than the fan translation or ROM download communities, but it's easy to be a bit jaded when you're asked to pay money for an inferior version of the product you can get online for free (legal or not).

(Obviously, this isn't the case with the situation in the comic. I'm just saying, I can understand the frustration, even if I may not completely agree with it in a particular situation.)

Looks like the author is making fun of those kinds of guys to me.

Rumors wants that Ys book is played in its original resolution without any filtering. Can someone with half a brain confirm this?

JARROD, ALL HOPE ISN'T LOST!!!

From the Ys I & II thread, it looks like Hudson may have finally lifted the horrible blur filter they've applied to TG16 games that no other system on Virtual Console has been cursed with. I don't know if Ys I & II is the first game or if older games will be corrected (doubt it, sadly), but I'll try to check as much as I can on it tonight.

So... I take it I should give this 'Yes' game a go... And then... I should pick up Mega Man... Wow! I haven't purchased anything since Breath of Fire II Harvest Moon.
no monies

Actually, Ys 1&2 didn't bomb at all. It was the most popular CD game on the Turbografx, both in the US and Japan. The *system* may have bombed in the US (did quite well in Japan), but of its games, Ys did not. It was so popular that when NEC/Hudson decided to release the Turbo Duo, Ys 1&2 was packed in to try and sell a ton of systems.

How well did Ys sell compared to other games on other platforms at the time?

No-one draws a character with that much acne and expects the reader to side with them.

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, in case you were referring to that, was a hack of the first Puyo Puyo, not Tsu.

I would personally dig a translated Super Tsu Remix (SNES), but I know that wouldn't happen.

And that SMRPG comic was obviously a dig at how long it took for the game to reach Europe.

I almost missed this thread because of the title change. It's still just two VC games, but at least they're two good games. SamSho2 here I come.

You picked wrongly. ;p

Even after stopping for a moment to think about things, I knew I was going to screw up which version of Puyo I was referring to. And I did.

WOOOOO TIME FOR Ys!!

FUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOU NINTENDO

I noticed that the serial code for Super Mario RPG in EU is JCBM. I wonder what the M could signify. New US games in Europe? By contrast, L seems to be for new JP games in Europe.

M includes...
FBNM - Ninja Gaiden
JAMM - Gradius III
JBCM - Super Mario RPG
MBWM - Columns III
MBXM - Ecco Jr.

L includes...
FAQL - Ninja JaJaMaru-kun
FB2L - Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
JABL - Mario's Super Picross
MA3L - Puyo Puyo 2
MCAL - Gley Lancer
NAJL - Sin & Punishment
PAOL - Final Soldier
PCRL - Break In
PCSL - Digital Champ
QACL - Cho Aniki
QADL - Gradius II
QAWL - Star Parodier

These look like the Hanabi Festival lineups, if I'm not mistaken. =P

I posted this last year. For completeness here's all the current region codes:

E - North America
J - Japan
P - PAL (Europe and Australia)
F - France
D - Germany
N - Japan to North America Imports
L - Japan to PAL Imports
M - North America to PAL Imports
Q - Japan to South Korea
T - North America to South Korea
A - Don't know what this is, but it's what the Photo Channel 1.1 appears under in North America, there is currently nothing under this on the shop server. The code is found from the data file.

In reguards to what the letters mean they are sequential probably just letters unlikely to be used. If the US ever got PAL imports they'd probably be under 'O'.

Are there any PAL imports we could actually get? I'm struggling to think of any... maybe Devil World.

Terranigma is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. I garuantee that a game like Devil World will most definately come from the Japanese build. I think PAL resolutions and refresh rates will prevent them in most instances.

Maybe Commodore 64 stuff?

If we haven't gotten C64 stuff at this point, I doubt we ever will -- and that's a crying shame.

Of course, I'd rather have OTHER old computer stuff WITH C64 stuff, but that's even more unlikely. Gimme my Atari 800 Star Raiders!

Commodore has said they're looking into releasing C64 games elsewhere, but there's certain issues at the moment.

I admit matters may have changed more recently, but I've a nagging feeling that while EU tellies have happily managed to run in 60Hz since the early nineties or so, I seem to remember that when I did a bit of research in the subject a while back it was actually quite rare to find a US telly that would run 50Hz without complaining; I suspect this could be the biggest issue for any PAL-to-US imports.
