Oh, this is going to be a huge post.
Re: demos in Brawl...
If it was an idea proposed to Sakurai by someone else at Nintendo, I'd probably have come out swinging against it earlier (rather than saying it was a step forward). And it's not outside the realm of possibility, considering Nintendo did strongarm him into putting Roy in the last game for the sake of promoting FE6.
But ultimately I'm assuming (and I think most others are also assuming) it's the opposite case this time around--Sakurai proposing the idea himself, and then bringing several first-party branches on board for it. As for why that assumption, I can't speak for anyone else, but my reasoning is that the idea of doing anything to promote VC is a line of thinking which nobody anywhere at Nintendo seems to be familiar with. I can't imagine they would have even had VC on their minds long enough to come up with that plan.
Or at least I believe that's my reasoning. There might be a more subconscious form of reasoning, a form constructed out of necessity lest I lose my last remaining faith in the company's intelligence--which, in this case, means being forced to think that the great things done with DS were only a very happy fluke. It could be that I want to ignore the possibility that Nintendo was simultaneously smart enough to realize that a service they had in place could benefit immeasurably from some demos, yet also stupid enough to decide that, first, they should only make demos available for a select few games and, second, those demos should only be available on a retail disc. I'm not sure whether so much and so little logic and sense could be found in the same operation, but admittedly it's nothing I'd like to consider.
As for everything else...

some of you people are drama queens. Do you not have anything else to play?
Other stuff to play? On
Wii? No.

I've owned it for twelve months and five days and well over 85% of my time has gone to either VC or Gamecube games, with sporadic breaks every three months or so for the likes of Galaxy or Super Paper Mario. This is not an exaggeration.
That said, I'm not about to play the "lol Wii has no games" card. Obviously it has games, since people are playing it. There are even a couple games I've been vaguely interested in but ultimately didn't pick up, like Geometry Wars Galaxies (which I'll buy if it ever gets its price cut). It's just that there's a certain system which I enjoy thirty times more than Wii, and its name is "DS," and it offers games for $30. In other words, I'm used to getting more quality for less money than the usual Wii title, and I'm enough of a "portable whore" (if such things exist) that I'd gladly take less horsepower and a small screen if it means more pick-up-and-play, more game time, and the capacity to buy more games period.
But even if not for DS, there's still VC itself. And honestly, despite all the complaining that so many people level at VC for the pricing--which to me isn't expensive by any stretch of the imagination--I can still very easily get 7+ games for the cost of a single disc that I won't enjoy nearly as much. And not only "can" I choose that route, but I
do.
Or at least I did. I don't know how often I'll be able to do it if Nintendo keeps releasing practically nothing. This means they don't get my money and I don't get their games, which is a straight lose-lose.

Not to mention the fact that people were expecting AAA games all the time, and Nintendo delivered that on a regular basis. Almost every major Nintendo first party game is already on the VC, and tons of high quality third party games too. I am dissapointed with only 1 game this week, but there are some people here acting like it will be the end of the VC.
Even assuming we get back to two games per week consistently, that's still a 33% slowdown for the rate of good games getting released. I don't see what reason there is
not to be disappointed here.

How dare Nintendo release 1 awesome game this week, I demand they release 3 shit ones instead!
Way to implement a strawman, man.
On a personal level, I'm not sure what people see in 1080: I mean, it's a racing game with six tracks. But even putting that aside, since most people in here do think 1080 is awesome, I have to admit there's something to be said even for a week of three bad games. At least in those times we could be assured that eventually something good or great was coming, and that it would be coming faster than the current rate. There's only so much shovelware to go around, so when they were burning through games at a pace of three per week, eventually they'd have to hit something worth playing. At two per week, it's still true that eventually they'll have to hit something worth playing--but (all other things being equal) it will take 150% the amount of time to do it.

The VC is probably the best thing the Wii has got going for it and I'd hate to see Nintendo squander the boatloads of potential it has.
Maybe we were just spoiled by the Super Metroid/Neutopia/Shinobi week.
Or the Donkey Kong Country 2/Streets of Rage 2/Blazing Lazers week. But, more importantly... "
I'd hate"? You speak like it's a hypothetical.

(No offense, obviously. You know you and I agree on a metric ton of things. >_>) Even if this whole two-game/one-game thing was dropped immediately and we started getting three- or even four-game weeks again, there would still be the matter of Nintendo having failed to advertise the service. :/ No way around it, they've been squandering VC's potential for quite some time.

I'm talking more about 3rd party NES. Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Metal Gear, Castlevania III and the like. There really is a long ways to go.
No disagreement on that point, at least. (Good luck on getting the Disney titles, though--unfortunately, since they were actually good.)

I just wanted to add that by this point, I honestly expected them to starting releasing more games per week, since they've been adding new consoles lately. However, the exact opposite has happened.
Thank you. Somehow in Nintendo's world having a larger pool to draw from means releasing less. :/

The VC is a year old now and its already filled with some of the greatest games of all time, what I prefer bitching about is how I don't have enough storage space to download them all
I have 47 games and I could fit the entire library on my Wii, minus any three of the five N64/TGCD games.
Or at least I could if there were enough channels open for that. Technically I can only hold 42, but eh, that's beside the point. I don't know how people manage to fill up their Wiis unless they're downloading even more than me and/or they've rented games by the baker's dozen and overloaded the Wii's memory with save files.
That said, yeah, Nintendo really does need to release a hard drive. :| Or at least open up playing games from the SD Card. It took--no exaggeration--over seven minutes for me to copy Sin and Punishment to that thing, so I'm guessing the copies retain the fullest levels of encryption. I'm not sure what risk there is (other than the risk that people would start complaining about the time it takes to copy games to an SD Card).

It isn't that we're simply expecting more. It's just the potential precedent this sets.
Yes, precisely.

Well said.
It's also been forever since they rated Mega Turrican and Super Turrican. And Shining Force 2.
