I like how everyone thinks McCain will just shit all over the Rep party if he becomes president. He's going to have to fall in line eventually. If he doesn't AND he gets the nomination, the Republicans will lose big as they will have basically disenfranchised their base. The idea that he's going to stay moderate over the coming months is simply ludicrous.

Face it: The Republican base wont vote for McCain unless he starts coming off more conservative on issues. McCain needs that base to win. Ergo, McCain will become more and more conservative as time goes by. In the end, voting for McCain is going to be voting a Republican into office and voting for Clinton OR Obama is going to be putting a Democrat into office. The "LOL MODERATE" thing is a scam and I don't understand why people continue to buy into it.

Also, any Democrat who would consider voting for a Republican in the upcoming election because of their dislike for the Democratic candidate is not seeing the bigger picture. Do the Dems really want a Republican in control of SC nominations going forward? For either side, voting against your party in this election because of some idealistic hope that the opposing party's candidate is going to be moderate or bi-partisan is simply naive.

ur not seeing the big picture. when it comes to the future of my family and I I vote for more tan just my party line. thats the problem with this country. I have issues with clinton on character and other views. so as a voter and citizen of this country i would rather see mcain as our next president than hillary clinton.

i can look past party lines to try to move the country forward. your thinking is more of the same divisive partisan crap about how since i am a democrat with democratic views i must vote for the democrat because they are democrat. thats the worse reason to vote for some one.

next on mcain he has shown a history of working with democrats to get legislation moved forward. that means alot to me. hillary is very polarizing and will likely not work with republicans. and divide this country further.

so please. shut the crap about how as a democrat i must vote for a democrat. i would want a republican to vote for a democrat if they feel they are better than the republican candidate. well i am doing the same. mcain will be a better president for the us than hillary. thats my choice. and feel sorry for those who are blind enough to vote based only on party affiliation.

:lol

Tell that to the conservatives that are having panic attacks right now.

EDIT: Oh, Lefty, don't bother. Know your audience.

Again, I feel you're being naive. McCain will fall into line with the Republican party or he wont have a chance in the general election. His history doesn't really matter - Sure, he may be moderate in ONE STATE where he is already popular, but it's going to be a different story when he needs to court the Republican base. In the end, this is a two party country. Voting for McCain is going to give you a Republican and voting for Clinton is going to give you a Democrat.

Those conservatives are exactly the reason you're going to see a less and less moderate McCain as time goes by.

Why don't you look at the past to try and predict the future. Hardcore conservatives hate McCain. Yes, hate. If he gets the nomination he's going right for the middle vote and hoping Hillary brings out the conservatives. That's why I'm dumbfounded right now with Hillary leading.

wow.you are dense.

1 i don't just vote part line. i am more of a moderate democrat.

2. voting for mcain is cause i have serious issues with hillary. Your telling me to vote for hillary if she wins the nom becasue she is a democrat ? thats a joke right. i vote for mnay more reasons than party line

3. next i am suppose to ignore what a candidate has done working in the government i am electing them for? if mcain has worked with dems before he will again. deny that all you want. reaching across the party to get the job done is what america needs.

this country is only a 2 party country if the voter makes it one. that means you sir are a huge aprt of the problem and not part of the solution. i understand the importance of my vote much more than you do. if you did you would understand the ignorance of your statment vote for a candidate cause they are the democrat. What if hitler was the democratic candidate. should i vote for hims just cause he is a democrat. thats what you basically said to me.

I totally understand both of your positions. 100%. I'm not being dense, here, though it's obviously futile for me to argue about it. We'll have to see how the future plays out. I am obviously much more pessimistic about the entire system than the two of you. While I'd love to see a moderate in office, I simply do not think it is feasible.

If you really have to waffle between Obama or McCain, chances are you are voting more for personality or other insubstantial things than actual policies you want implemented. Despite her alleged irreconcilable "divisiveness" (a quality--gee--attributed to her by her opponents), she has an actual, real history of working with the opposition when needed to get things done. But more importantly to people who actually believe in her policy proposals, she's a proven and tenacious fighter. I don't understand why anyone would not want that, especially when Dems run the government.

One thing. McCain will put CONSERVATIVE SC judges on the court that will harm liberal beliefs and ideals for decades to come. I could never vote for that.

dude, i am all for a debate on a canidates views or policies.

but you never tell another voter to vote for a candidate just cause of party affiliation.

its the dumbest argument ever. not to say people don't vote that way many of us don't. we look at more than just he this person is republican or democrat.

i don't think you understand that. if you did your argument would have had some weight, some actual facts about why we should vote for hillary. Instead it was all bs about how mcain is a republican. And party affiliation should be one of the last reasons you vote for some one and not your first.

I'm not going to get into an extended argument about this. Again, the Supreme Court judges alone are enough of a reason for me to totally ignore the Republican candidate in the upcoming election. It's not "a dumb argument" to me because of the effect that things like this have on the future. I'm dismissing your seemingly emotion-based vote just as you're dismissing my logic-based vote.

yeah cause no judge comes in front of congress to be voted in. :lol Congress is so important in the process.

next how do you know mcain a moderate would put conservative judges on the bench?

this is the dumbest argument ever.

its eerily similar to some republican fear mongering. omg he will put conservative judges on the bench

Party == policies == the substantive reasons why you'd vote for someone.

I mean, right?? I can understand if there were a grab-bag of positions you believed in, and therefore could go either way, but to completely shift your beliefs because of someone's last name is asinine.

Francois the Great said:
i was not alive in 1980, and i was four years old in 1992.
I am only a few years older than you but if you take a decent high school history class then you know the economy is more often than not the most important issue in elections including those 2. I cant see how you would not know about this at all. Its astounding.

It's the Senate. Stop saying Congress.

He certainly isn't putting liberal justices on the bench.

1. i aint making a fundamental change in beliefs. i am a obama supporter. i am also a moderate democrat. mcain is a moderate as well just on the republican side. its not like i am talking bout voting for huckabee or something.

2. party does not equal policy. thats the biggest joke. character, past history and other issues matter just as much. remember congress plays a much bigger role in policy than a pre4sident does. you know checks and balances.

3. and i said the biggest reason why i cant vote for hillary is not cause of her name. she is divisive and will help split the country even further. mcain has showed a history of working with democrats to get legislation passed. which is what is needed tog et changes we need to fix major issues in the country like education and infrastructure.

its obviously to deep for many of you to understand. omg a democrat would vote for a republican. if more people thought like that this country might move forward

Who will nominate judges that ignore their personal beliefs of right/wrong and instead base their rulings on law?

hmm isn't the senate a part of congress. so you posted the fact its the senate not the congress to look all educated. good stuff gaf be proud :D

next those judges must still get approved. and i am moderate so why would i want a liberal judge to begin with.

man your post is full of fail

Look, the guy doesn't trust Hillary or feel she would represent America the way he see's fit.

How can you argue with that?

Oh yeah, McCain is all of the sudden GWB II. I forgot.

youre missing the point mang. im saying that the economy is pretty much run by the legislative branch, and the president has no power over it other than vetoing shit and proposing bills for houses to vote on (but anyone can do this.)

i would think that regardless of the economic situation, foreign policy should always be more important in a presidential election considering the president is commander-in-chief. i know that economy is important, and when i asked "why is economy so important" i meant why do people just assume presidents have control over it, instead of making sure the president stays within his boundaries. it was more of a philosophical question from someone who is sick of seeing people run for king instead of president.

we are just dif people. you just spent all this time trying to break down my choice instead of saying cool its your vote. remember all this over me saying i would switch from obama to supporting mcain if hillary won the nom

next we are likely in diif places in our lives.

i am almost 30, been married 9 years and in the process of building a house. have 2 kids one in school another bout to start.

so my views are going to be much diff than alot of people on gaf. if you don't have these huge responsibilities you already looking at things thru a diff set of glasses i am.

The House is part of the Congress, but they have no say in justices. To say Congress votes on justices is factually incorrect. Did you post Congress to look all stupid? Good stuff GAF, be proud.

Any justices he puts forth will be right of center and hardly moderate. He'll just nominate people like Alito where they simply won't state opinions on certain issues to get Senate approval, despite Bush obviously having reason for nominating him.

Bingo!

I think the idea is clear between Clinton and McCain as far as these forums go.

But what I do not understand, is how someone can support Clinton over Obama. If infact their positions are nearly identical, why Clinton over Obama? If the Republicans are gonna unite against Clinton, why not support Obama? Why not support the candidate more likely to pull people together? And I think after last night's debate, he showed he can draw out his policy very well, and can take shots at the opponent. This is what I want to know from Clinton base fans here, particularly APF because I see him leading the charge here. This should be a bottom line well thought out non-debatable response.

1. this was not a history lesson. you went out of the way to act all smart. kudos but you failed. i said congress cause it was a casual statement on the process.

2. next like i said any nomination must be passed by the congress we elect. they seem to have as big a aprt as the president don't ya think.

3, and i am not going to make my choice for president based on what might happen. he might not name 1 single nom to the supreme court. \\

4. still doesn't change the fact i don;t trust hillary. Hopefully obama wins the nom so this conversation is mute. but it will be a cold day in hell before i vote for hillary.

Haven't you heard? Obama is all flash and no substance. He also didn't have the benefit of being married to a president and can't claim to have experience for all the things the hubby did well (while ignoring the rest).

He'll say experience which I don't quite understand. She has been in the senate only a few more years than Obama.

And if a nominee doesn't given any opinions when asked, then it doesn't matter. Justice spots are supposed to be based on merit and not idiology. Alito was asked about Roe v Wade, he declined to directly answer that, and he passed in the Senate.

You can vote for whoever you please. I just find it silly, borderline assine that you'd rather vote for someone you'd want to drink a beer with versus someone that more likely matches what you believe in.

I have a headache too, watching you type is amazingly tiring. Shift key; use it.

:lol shift key.

I DON'T TRUST HER. HER AND HER HUSBAND ARE LYING CHEATS. HE WAS IMPEACHED FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. SHE CAN'T EVEN STAND BEHIND HER RECORD AT WALMART AND IN THE SENATE. SHE DOES SHARE SOME OF MY VIEWS BUT ON OTHERS SHE FALLS VERY SHORT.

better?

how many times do i have to say i am a moderate. and i share some views with mcain as well. don't be shocked. but my vote is not tied to just my views or the party's views.

this is about what i think is better for america. and thats mcain when my choices are mcain or hillary.

not understanding that is what is asinine my friend. i aint changing my view or how i will vote. get that thru your head.

next i never said i want to drink beer with mcain. i said many times he would be a better choice than hillary to help unite the country. hillary is divisive and i don't trust her character. crying in hew hampshire. really crying?

last election i voted for kerry. i did not like alot of his views but felt he was better for america than bush. this time i feel hillary would not be good for america. so i hope obama wins the nom otherwise i will have to vote for mcain. its that simple. my mind is set. let it go

I told you not to bother Lefty. You're part of the problem now. You are obvioulsy voting for McCain because you would rather have a beer with him.

Have anything else to add?

If he wants McCain and he shares his beliefs and he thinks he'll do better for America, that's fine. I don't care. Good for him for even voting because even half of American can't be assed to do that. I just find the notion of "If it's Obama or McCain, I vote Obama, but if it's Hilary or McCain, I vote McCain" strange given the Hilary and Obama aren't very far off from each other.

On the issues maybe.

Character and integrity actually matter to people. Crazy, I know.

This president is going to be the face for our foreign relations. I think Obama is the better face. Character and Perception are biggies.

Yes I do actually.

Try and image that many people feel there is a big difference between Obama and Hillary. There is one candidate that tries to separate the races for votes. There is one that doesn't. There is one that has a reputation of lying and doing whatever it takes in a bad way to get what they want. There is one who doesn't. There is one that has the ability to unite Americans. There is one that doesn't.

There are more than where someone stands on a particular issue today because they can be doing so just to get elected. Especially when they have a history of such behavior.

wow once again.

1. i do not share every view with hillary. i do not support mandates for one. i could go on and give you a big list of reasons.

2. i do not suppoort every one of obama's views either. even though i ma a moderate i do have some liberal views which is why i am a democrat. I support gay marriage. obama is against gay marriage but for some kind of cival union. so you can see how my views vary but overall i am a moderate. specially when it comes to immigration.

but i do feel; obama is diff than what we have seen in washington. he excites the voters and has a big push with the youth. he understands how important it is to get the youth involved. Next his record is very clear on where he stands. i'll never forget how poised he was back in 2004 addressing the dnc and his big win in ill.

but more than that i trust him. i have spent years of hearing hillary bitch and moan over a war she voted for. than go back to the scandals, white water etc, from the 90's her character is very flawed. she comes off as fake and honestly scares me as bad as bush still in office in 2004 did.

i would have voted for elmo in 2004 to keep bush out of office and would vote for elmo again to keep hillary out of office if she wins the nom. sorry you don't understand but after all these years i am tired of her and her husband. her husband did a good job but morally he is just as flawed. and his work and progress in the 90's can not be used to see how bad or good she will be.

after his bold face lying over and over again and under oath showed me bill;s charcater and her willingness to stay showed hers. she stayed to save her political career. thats bullshit. she cares so much about appearance than standing up for her own rights as a wife and mother. like those weak women on cops who get beat every day but don't leave.

and here i will stop. as you can see i can not vote for this woman over a war hero pow. thats solid character.
