just got back from the tennessee game, every1 is going apeshit
tennessee defence needs some work though, leak was throwing some nice passes

holy shit. That Drew kid from UCLA ran for like 320 yards and 5 tds. Didn't Deshaun Foster also tear up the Washington D for 300+ yards the year he was ROBBED of the heisman?

This is unintentionally really funny... at least, I think it was unintentional.

Incidentally, the real USC just came back from a mediocre beginning to score three times in the last ten minutes of the first half.
Well the subtlety's ruined now. :p I'm trying to think of some jokes for next week when our Troy lines up against Troy University.

And we still have the last win in the series, so unless Southern Cal wants to come to Columbia and get their acronym back, it's staying on the East Coast as far as I'm concerned!

what makes it funny is the mascots for each USC are the 'Cocks and Trojans.
A few people still have the old "YOUR TROJANS CAN'T HOLD OUR COCKS" bumper stickers from the 80s. I expect a fresh printing for next week.

(and I'm waiting for the inevitable Oregon State game)

Oops, I was being dumb. I had a brain fart and was thinking it was UNC, and that you had made a funny typo. Anyway, I'm not a huge SC fan. You can have the acronym if you really want. ;)
Yes! Thanks man ;)

BYU may not win their game tonight, but at least they're a contender for Worst Uniform

why does Pete Carrol still have Reggie Bush in the game returning punts in the 4th quarter of a blowout? That kid runs HARD i keep thinking he's gonna hurt himself, and he's pretty much carrying the USC offense.

If Charlie Whitehurst can remember he's Charlie Whitehurst and not Chris Rix, you'll get a good game. Plus you can always count on Leroy Hill to terrorize your quarterback.
guess not...

Wonderful game tonight, had the best seats since I got some good 1st deck my Freshman year...

poor Tommy though, but this should set up a good showdown a couple of weeks from now when we play Kansas St.

I'm a BIG Kansas St. fan so it's going to be fun to see Bill Synder and Darren Sproles take on the Aggies with a rowdy home crowd.

I could tell tonight that the offense over and over was getting frustrated. It was easily one of the loudest games at Kyle Field in a while.

Will the Big East lose its BCS bid after this year? They clearly don't deserve one. WVU is overrated and I can't wait for them to fail...please fail. I'm not sure their schedule has any major obstacles. :( Oh yeah, when's Ohio State's luck gonna run out? Ugh, I can't believe they haven't gone down yet. PEACE.

WVU is slightly overrated, but honestly, beating MD for WVU is huge. Considering their past performances over the last 2 years versus MD, beating 19 ranked MD is like beating a top 5 team for WVU. The big east in all reality doesn't deserve a BCS bid this year, but what can you do. Louisville will help the big east next year, so will dropping temple. South Florida hopefully will improve. Doesn't help that certain teams are having down years in big east (Cuse/Pittsburgh).

I guess it was an alright game. Some of the time it looked like a replay of last years BYU game with was a borderline disaster. Bush looks good, except for that lateral on the punt return. I'm not sure you need to go with the desperation lateral when you're up by 20 points.

Drew from UCLA was pretty good. I watched the first quarter when he was absolutely destroying UW. Three long TDs. It's kind of bizarre that UCLA almost lost that game. But then again.... it's UCLA.

Arizona State looks good, though, blowing out Iowa. Maybe the pundits should have looked at Walter as the 'Senior QB who finally puts it all together and steps up to the next level' instead of hyping Chris Rix again. ASU's defense seems good too. You never know with the Pac 10, I guess.

Just got back from the ASU v. Iowa game! Is Iowa overated or something 'cause they blow ass. I think they completed maybe 10 passes the whole game and had only 1 or 2 frist downs the whole first half. GO DEVILS!!!!!!

---edit---
ASU 44
Iowa 7

Whoa, Michigan sucks this year. Struggled against San Diego State, what the hell?

...this bodes well for OSU, though, because a lot of their team is new, making time their friend.

Awesome game! I didn't have the greatest seat in the house, but we had Kyle Field jumping tonight. One of the loudest games in years there.

Just like to pimp out Pierre Thomas from my local high school 2 years ago. Named best running back in illinois that year and had us go pretty deep. 99 yard kick return to open today's game for the illini. He had to split time with another back sadly, also a Sophmore this year even though Pierre's yards per carry is much better and he breaks more tackles, and has more speed. I hear Pierre pushes cars in the parking lot actually. But whatever, politics thing. Premier back is EB Halsey who was Virginia's top back same year Pierre was Illinois. They've been splitting time unevenly but its starting to tilt a bit more even lately

FSU's offense is so awful this year. Kills me since our D has looked phenomenal. UAB had a video-game like -6 yards rushing or so when we left with like 3 minutes remaining.

Florida really got jobbed. However, it may be karmic balancing because Florida beat UT on a bad call 4 years ago in Knoxville when the officials called a TD when the receiver dropped the pass.

Well, I followed the Alabama game from start to finish. We lost our star QB for the entire season (here's to hoping for a medical redshirt), but I'm not going call the season in like many of our fans. Was a freak non-contact incident where he just planted his foot wrong and tore his ACL.

I hope Marc Guillon shows up for the Arkansas game, and puts a quick end to the "controversy". He was good enough to start for the Miami Hurricanes before getting injured, and now he'll get to start for us.

Who do you blame on the offensive side? Offensive coordinator, Rix, who?

I'm glad Sexton got a bit of playing time, but I don't think he could turn things around for us. It's all Jeff Bowden's fault. BUT I think as long as we have a great defense with a decent offense we'll be okay.

I've been calling for Jeff Bowden and Chris Rix's head for the past few years and are clearly not suited for their positions. This year though, it looks like our O-Line has some massive problems to boot although maybe that's just the case of Miami's D being just that good. I don't know, we'll see. One thing is for sure, with Rix in as our starting QB, you can pretty much write the rest of the season off.

Here's the terrible call from the UF/UT game... sorry for the crappy encode.

http://vid.impirius.net/misc/UFbadcall.wmv

I'd say it's unbelievable, but it's the SEC.

Edit: Spurrier?

I watched that call at a bar, and while I couldn't really hear what was going on, I could not understand how he watched the whole slap match and only gave the second guy the penalty.

And why not Spurrier? He's gonna be coaching somewhere next year, and I've heard rumors of him going to UNC. Now I hate the guy, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him replace Bowden.

Bowden as in Bobby or Tommy? Tommy, I suppose it's possible but there's no way they ever hire Spurrier to coach at FSU. None.

I was talking about Tommy. I was unaware that Bobby was on the hotseat.

He isnt. Bobby is such an important figure here that he'll basically coach until he decides to call it quits (like a Joe Paterno at Penn State, etc.)

Yeah that's what I figured. That's why when I said bowden I figured everyone knew which one I was talking about (that being the one that can't coach).

I'm not surprised to see UF fans bitching about a bad call. Everytime they lose a close game they always bitch about bad calls. Blah blah blah!

Gimme a break. Tennessee was the better team on Saturday.

True, but that was still a bad call. A really bad call. They do have a legitimate gripe there.

I dunno. I know a lot of people who go to UF and everytime one of them plays the "bad call card," they use it to defend the loss, such that they would have won had it not been for that one call.

A football game is not won by one play/bad call. It's the culmination of the 60 minutes on the field. So what if it was a bad play? That's one bad play. But even still, I could blame UF for the loss just because #81 Baker retaliated when he was hit. Shouldn't have done shit. UF's fault.

thing is, this was more than a bad call.

Sometimes perspective and intensity of the whole game can make it hard for officials to replay 100% in their minds what happened and what the call should be. I can understand bad calls that were close, of if they weren't close that weren't obvious from every perspective.

that said, THIS CALL WAS IN PLAIN SIGHT RIGHT IN FRONT of the players, and he let the Tennessee guy get away with it, which calling foul on the Florida player. Looks to me the only possible explanation is bias towards a team/player. If he had been looking away then suddenly caught what the 2nd player did, that would have been unfair, but understandable.

This was plain bizarre.

Regardless, the UF player did not have to retaliate. If he had done nothing, this wouldn't be a big deal. Because he had to be an idiot and hit him back people are moaning. Too bad! If anything, UF lost because Baker was stupid enough to hit another player, right in front of the ref.

Regardless of the outcome of the game, the big problem here is that an official seems to have made a biased call. Hell, forget "seems to"... I'll come right out and say that the side judge intentionally made the wrong call. I mean, there's absolutely no excuse for looking at that entire incident and only calling a foul on one player. The fact that it happened at a crucial point in the game just makes it worse and sheds more light on what has been a problem in college football in general and the SEC in particular: horrible officiating.

Not only was the 15 yard penalty from the one-way personal foul call garbage, but also, the clock should have been restarted once the ball was placed at the line of scrimmage. That whole sequence was just a disgrace. The shame of it is that the SEC has shown time and time again that they are not willing to hold anyone accountable.

I realize that officials are only human and that it's very difficult to process everything that goes on in a football game, especially from field level. I want to believe that those guys are doing the best that they can. But when I see crap like the UF/UT game, it just destroys what little faith I had.

My pick 5 picks this week. Anyone care to input on why I'm a fool for picking x over y?

1. Rice travels to TEXAS and is getting 30 and a half points against the favored Longhorns.
TEXAS
Rice

2. MICHIGAN a 12 and half point favorite, hosts Iowa.
MICHIGAN
Iowa

3. Alabama goes to ARKANSAS and ARKANSAS is a 6 and half point favorite.
ARKANSAS
Alabama

4. KANSAS is a home dog as they host 8 1/2 favorite Texas Tech.
KANSAS
Texas Tech

5. LSU, a 29 and a half point favorite, hosts Mississippi State.
LSU
Mississippi State

Miguel, I think Texas will cover at home against Rice. It's a lot of points to give, but Texas seems to be pretty good at posting big scores when they have a clear advantage in athleticism. Last year they beat Rice 48-7 in Houston. Rice is a little better this year, but beating Houston by three and needing a fourth quarter comeback at home against a Hawaii team that's off to a horrible start doesn't impress me much. Hell, FAU beat Hawaii on the island.

That Arkansas/Alabama game is a tough one. Yeah, 'Bama lost Croyle, and he's their heart and soul. They've played a creampuff schedule so far, too. But I'm a 'Cane fan and was fairly impressed with what I saw out of Guillon before he transfered. Also, Alabama seems like a tough team. They had a horrible situation last year and ended up 4-9, but almost all of those losses were close games. In the end I have to go with Arkansas, but my gut says Alabama might pull off a surprise here.

Well LSU always kicks State's ass, and State lost to Maine last week. Still 29 points are an awful lot. Maybe the smell of corn dogs will overhelm MSU.
