Smiths Doctor was pretty good, will take some time to get used to, but It's a good start. Like new Tardis look as well. was a good first episode to start up the season.

Not liking Amy at all, just getting started but she seems too annoying.

Maybe she'll grow on me, and I will say she's at least better than Donna. But I really don't like this set up to yet another companion who wants in the doctor's pants. I've tried to avoid spoilers, so maybe it's been said in an interview it won't go that way,

Well, Amy is getting married "tomorrow," so I dont think it will work out that way this time.

Yea, I hate those god damn spiders, always in the way. :p

Oddly I agree - shes nice to look at but so far shes just been very 'angry'. Its been done in a good way and matches the character, but I hope she doesnt end up acting like Donna.

I think they've said in interviews it won't go that way.

Although Smith himself seems pretty smitten with her. :lol

I liked how Stephen Moffatt put it in an interview: It's like someone took a very handsome man, and drew a charicature of him.

I don't have a link to the interview right at this moment, because I'm at work, but I think it's very true.

It is, and that he looks like a cartoon character only makes him better as the Doctor. I was definitely among those who were at least cautious of such a young actor in the role, but I was completely sold. I wasn't negative for a second of the show, and if he didn't look so ridiculous I'm not sure it would have gone so well in the early going :lol

Great start for Matt Smith. Story was just OK though, bit of a mashup of Girl in the Fireplace and Smith & Jones. I did think the 'arc phrase' was a bit shoehorned in - "You win this time Doctor, but now I will say something enigmatic!".
Budget cuts seem to have hit the CGI more than anything.
I quite like the new theme, but it sounds better without the lightning FX they've added to the titles.
Anyway, bring on the
Silurians.

Not sure about Hot Fuzz since it's been a while since I've seen it but she was in Green Wing and Peep Show.

I hope it does go that way, I hate seeing the Doctor getting shafted everytime. :|

It's depressing.

Depressing: 3 seasons of the doctor pining after a dumb blonde. Solution: don't get him in a state to pine over her.

He doesn't have to pine over her as much as ten did. As much as I love Ten, he was a bit... To much.

I'd like to see the Doctor have a sort of normal relationship. Sort of like people have when they've been together for a long time. You know, where the "hurr durr i <3 u" part is kind of over, but they're always together enjoying each other's company.

I just hope she doesn't actually marry Rory. I mean, he's Rory. He's like a weird version of Mickey.

Agreed, it'd be neat if they got married 'tomorrow.' It's about time that the Doctor won in the girl department, and had a life with someone. Even if it's only until the next regeneration.

Rory was a bit more useful than Mickey was at this point. I have more hope for him.

Also, post-settling-down-relationship-with-the-Doctor sounds dull as hell to me.

hey, maybe they want to settle down and she dies or something. like, dies dies. not "oh she would explode if she remembered me but lol I secretly put a surge protector in her head" dies or all that shit with Rose.

we know he gets serious with one woman. we know how that ends.

The only woman for the Doctor was Romana II, and she's dead :(

I still don't get the Donna hate. Maybe it helps to have never seen Catherine Tate's comedy before she did Who. Like I can understand not taking Eric Bana seriously as an actor if you despised his local television comedy work. She had so much more character than Martha and you can see why Doc liked having her around to talk to. She wasn't exactly Mel.

I think what I like best about Amy is that she has been profoundly fucked up by The Doctor
and it shows in more than just props in her bedroom. I mean The Doctor is basically her Drop Dead Fred and he's outright stated he's going to make sure that she realizes there's no point to being a grown-up unless you can act childish sometimes.

Love the DDF analogy; her fantasy is her reality. She hasn't moved from her childhood home, she's known for her imagination, she has a ridiculous job, her boyfriend is a nurse ie neutered Doctor. She really hasn't grown up much at all.

I really think Moffat is trying to pull wool with her wedding dress; it's a costume. The series' had enough weddings.

Yes, it was. She's Olivia Colman; also does a lot of work with Mitchell and Webb.

unless she's marrying the doctor....

why did the doctor introduce that guy to the world's scientists as 'my best man'?

and Amy pond - river song (silence in the library) as the Doctors future wife? Some connection there?

And the duck Pond as well.

Amy Pond and River Song may well be linked. If not, Moffat sure likes to lead us on a merry chase!

We know River Song keeps a Doctor diary. That does seem like the kind of thing that Amy would do too, with her childhood obsession. Wonder if there's any doodles in River's diary too?

One of the trailers has an Amy voiceover where she mentions her wedding. There's some speculation that
the wedding will be the season finale - with added SPACE MONSTERS.

Basically she's Utena and he's her prince. That's why she's always dressing up in wierd costumes. You'll see I'm right.

Wait, does that mean mat smith is going to be jumping out of the Tardis mid flight onto the top only to have his shirt open and flutter in the breeze? Because I really don't want to see that....

He already set the precident with Matt taking of his shirt in front of Amy, this will just be a natural follow up from that.

I only jumped onto DW with the 2005 series, but I have a question.

Why doesn't the Doctor take male companions along with him instead of chicks all the time? I know he's taken Mickey and Wilf on one or two trips but nothing like what he did with Donna or anything.

He used to in the olden days. The first doctor in particular always had a young male assistant to be the "brawn", since he was a bit past it :p The last real one I can think of would be Turlough, from the Peter Davidson years I think. Before that, Adric.

We could do with another one now.

He used to.

Though Adric kind of went... Wrong.

Like the guy above me said, he used to have male companions that would help the Doctor when things got physical. After all, he used to be an old man.

ZETTAI JIKUUKAN MOKUSHIROKU would sum up the finales of each New Who season so far.

Dr Who would be so much better if the Shadow Girls popped up halfway through every episode in their spaceship.

He has throughout the old series but there was always that token female by his side.

Quite liked the first ep, though the ending saw The Moff copping his own stuff from Forest of the Dead when Tennant tells the Vashta Nerada to look him up and they back off. Still loved it, though. I like Smith as the Doctor so far, and Amy seems like she'll be an interesting companion given her history.

I think RTD once said that they considered it, but they prefer the two-people-in-a-TARDIS-maximum in most episodes. And in that case, if the Doctor's companion were a man... well, you'd have to admit, there's enough bad-guy-villains in DW already. Female companion keeps it from being a total sausage-fest.

Right, and I agree with that for the most part. The only thing that bugs me is that it makes the Doctor look like a total creep just taking girls around time and space on a whim.

Finally figured out that Karen Gillan has this amazing ability to fully express herself with her face without moving any other part of her body. Its look like a projection on a statue.
