Something from australia ?

Lots and lots of tracks there !

Anyone try the real life vs in-game test? It's in the environment element. I got 17/20 right, I guess I'm blind :P

13/20. Some of it was actually really pissing me off.

Hehe, that quiz was moderately easy, I got 15/20. Most of the time you could tell it was in-game because of the dull look the game has.

Also, whoever is in charge of the painting the clouds should be fired ASAP. GT4 has some of the ugliest clouds I've seen.

And we are missing:

Seatlle short
SSR11
Red Rock Speedway
Rome
Rome short
Grindelwald
Green Forest
Red Rock Speedway

Yep, and most of those are my fav circuits! tks again Polyphony! ***goes back at TOCA2

Hehe, I got 19/20 and the one I got wrong (Laguna Seca turn from above up close) was a near miss, a wrong last second decision.

Fredi

PS: I'm a designer, so I know what to look for. :)

I got 19/20 too. And I'm not a designer. Gniah-ah.

Got a 19/20 too. Anytime there is a tree it's very easy, or reflection (except in one case, that where I got my wrong answer).
Pretty impressive I must say, I'm glad I'll get a PS2 for christmas (ho ho ho that's tonight).

Just learnt that the spec of GT4 mentions 480p and 1080i output, and checked the official Japanese site at

http://www.playstation.jp/scej/title/gt4/main.html
(select About and select the 3rd item under the About bar)

5.1 surround, 480p and 1080i were included in the list of outputs.

It will be the first game on PS2 to support 1080i if it really is.
1080i ? How could the PS2 handle a 1920*1080*32bits framebuffer ? Even a 1920*540*32 would be almost impossible.
If true, I bow down to the geniuses at Polyphony Digital !

I hope it is not only limited to the photo mode.

BTW, 1080i can be 1440 or 1920 in the standard, but in reality it can be anything.

Yeah I was thinking about this too, it would make sense. Could someone able to read japanese go to the official site (about / 3rd choice) ?

It is just that, nothing more than that from what I've read, no foot note nor whatever.

"I thought that was a real life video, don't tell me that it's in-game?!"

While the graphics may look good, I dont know how you could confuse that video with real life, because a real rally car DOES NOT SOUND LIKE AN ELECTRIC SHAVER!

And I thought backfires were in the game? Shouldn't a WRC car have it's exhaust turn into a damn flamethrower because of the anti-lag/misfiring system as soon as you let off the gas?

Actually, 1080i IS a 1920x540 (remember, it's interlaced) or 1440x540.

1440x540x16bit could technically be doable on a PS2. You would need around 3MB of VRAM for two such buffers. Not sure how Z buffers plays into that though.

I remember some crappy EA snow-racing game was supposed to support 1080i on a PS2, but they ditched that option in the last moment.

My money is on the photo mode though, which should look beautiful in 1080i. It already looks so damn good in 480i...

Ah trial mtn. Such great memories. Although it's really ugly, at the same time, it's amazing how well GT1 stands up in the video. Cool idea. Now ship the game!! With online please:)

I got 18/20. The dull look and lack of true reflections and variety in the terrain are the giveaway. If you see lots of unique textures its a photograph. That said, the game is still very impressive especially considering the hardware.

I got 17/20. Some of the pics are near impossible to guess as they don't show enough. As for the 'dull look', well, some of the actual photos look a lot duller than the game shots in this comaprision.

The photos have a bit more contrast. The lighter values are brighter and the blacks are darker. The range inbetween isn't as strong.

Almost all games or computer graphics have this problem if not post processed.

Is SCEA trying to compete with EA for the prize of WORST LICENSED SOUNDTRACK EVER? It's time like this I really wish the PS2 had the option of custom soundtracks. I'd just fucking rip my Gran Turismo JPN OST and be done with it. They could at least do something like the GTA games and offer and offer a big range of different musical styles. Dumbfucks!

Ugh, you gotta be shitting me. I'd be happy with the music from Prologue than this crap. Ugh

I want to kill whoever approved this list, and the focus groups that were involved with the approval!

Good think I managed to hack myself some half-assed custom soundtracks on PS2: if I press just right, I can switch to 2 diffferent sources with my switchbox, 1 for the PS2 and one for the PC. I just turn off the PS2's music and start a wmp playlist :D and both sources come out over the same speakers.

Some people are already getting it:

Yeah, I know what you mean, but some of those photos look pretty dull themselves.

"Born Too Slow" alone is better than all of the BO3 soundtrack combined :P
If you care that much, why don't you plug your cd player to your audio receiver and mix the music from it with sound effects from the game?
