Sony opens new Bungie spinoff studio. Team LFG.

TFS made bank and saw the highest peak CCU at launch for Destiny franchise.
...followed by 12 months of worst slump in player count in Destiny franchise. I don't think looking back Bungie is happy with the combo of LIGHTFALL and TFS.

Lightfall despite being a terrible campaign that punctured the titanic beyond repair still had people logging in for an entire year. Post TFS Campaign people were done. Didn't even gave shit about the seasonal stuff.

What will your excuse be when Steam comes out with their annual charts and this continues to be a top 12 grossing game?

"Here's a new studio with more than one color in its name that is making a multiplayer game!"

Nothing. Facts are facts. That would mean they are able to extract money even from low player count.
But won't change the fact after 10/10 TFS it should have been even better. If it indeed made Top12 nobody should have any excuses.

I am more interested to see clear post TFS that is Fate saga 2025 numbers. 2024 figures would still include TFS Launch peak which won't be replicated ever in Destiny.

pussys ITT triggered by colors
I love the phrase Alanah Pearce types call these people. They're not real gamers, they're tourists, fake gamers.

"Fairgames looks bad because I watched a CGI trailer."

"Not another Extraction Shooter. The genre is niche! I want another looter shooter!"

"teamLFG will close up because the colors are woke."

There are so many non gamers polluting the discourse it's unreal.

Modern delusional person in a nut shell...

Proven wrong... doesn't matter, will still push the narrative. Narrative over everything.

Somethings got to give. Where did this all come from?
What narrative exactly am I pushing here.
That Player count post TFS is low? that's not an opinion that's again just facts.

It's low relative the Destiny 2's previous years.

It's high relative to 99.9% of the less popular GAAS games out there.

So is it a fact? Probably not.

Again, no arguments there. Destiny is lone wolf whose Gaas capability outmatch others.
I have not remarked on Destiny is doomed, I am saying it has done irreparable damage to the franchise.

Temporary profits while phoning in a console generation of games are his legacy? That's even worse than I'd thought.

Jim Ryan outmaneuvered his competition to the point that they left the business. That's going to be his legacy.

Nothing about the PS5 was a given.

  • Overcoming the supply chain issues in order to get stock out as quickly as possible
  • Getting key games out "on time" in order to drive demand of PS5s
  • Releasing a digital model and pricing it competitively with the XSS at launch
  • Greenlighting the PS5 Pro
  • Buying Insomniac, Housemarque, Bluepoint, Bungie, Nixxes, and Audeze
  • Massive expansion into PC gaming, which has helped keep the company profitable in the face of industry-high development costs
  • Revitalized PS+ without destroy B2P sales
    • Resisted industry pressure to turn PS+ into GamePass which probably would have crashed the industry
  • Oversaw SIE giving Arrowhead more development time on Helldivers 2, turning it into one of the most successful franchises in PlayStation history
  • Creation of PlayStation Productions, which has put SIE into a position to turbocharge their sales through transmedia, again much needed with industry-high development costs
  • Positioned SCEE to have Europe be the most dominant region for PlayStation market share
Yeah, Jim Ryan is far more consequential than anyone in SIE history not named Ken Kutaragi and to be honest, it's not even close. Does that mean every initiative he made was successful? Obviously not. No one is perfect, not even Ken himself, who flew too close to the sun with the PS3 and nearly bankrupted SIE.

Way too melodramatic. The embodiment of this meme...

Destiny 2 expansions will fail or succeed based on how fun they look to the market. Irreparable damage is a legal term you hear at divorce trials.

Will go from lfg to lfj soon enough.

lol how is this melodramatic. I am not even painting doooom all over the texts. Its a fact that Destiny is at its lowest.

If its all just speculations then we have only people sentiment towards the future of Destiny expansions as a metric to fall onto.
or lets see and wait an year how Fate and Renegade charts.

Jim, I appreciate you taking the time to reply, but I think it'll be best to recuse yourself from this discussion. This take is... not correct.

Because Destiny 3, if it looks good enough (Helldivers 2 style direction), would be the biggest Destiny in history. There's no such thing as "irreparable damage".
Destiny 3, would be a fresh slate, which Destiny players have been asking for years will obviously be judged as a new slate.
I am more talking about Destiny 2 foreseeable future, not a product literally a decade away even if that.

Name 5 people more consequential with their achievements.
Lol. You went out of your way to bullet point "ran PlayStation" in the most obtuse way humanly possibly, and pretended this was better than literally every single person who ever worked at SIE in its history - save for the creator of the original PlayStation. Ryan inherited a well oiled and enormously successful machine, did little expect jack up the prices and try to make Sony's Fortnite, then walked away with his millions and left others to figure out how to clean up the second half of this generation. PlayStation is sitting in its "charge more for less" position because that's where he left it.

Hirai steered not only PlayStation, but Sony itself, through its darkest hours. You have a PlayStation 5 because he helped Sony survive the PlayStation 3 and their annihilation in many consumer electronics markets. He backed Crazy Ken, and had the balls to stick around and clean up when Ken nearly sank the company. Hirai, not fucking Jim Ryan, is the most consequential person in PlayStation history.
Tretton helped the PlayStation 3 recover after one of the worst launches in gaming console history, overseeing the legendary "It Only Does Everything" campaign. He orchestrated the absolute take down of Microsoft, delivering the greatest E3 moment in history, and helped setup the PlayStation 4 for the huge success it ultimately enjoyed under House.
Yoshida is chiefly responsible for helping shape PlayStation studios and its network of satellite support developers into the powerhouse it is today. PlayStation built its name on delivering the goods, and this man helped foster their creative visionaries and the raw talent necessary to do so.
House deserves a shoutout because he delivered when it really mattered. Sony needed the PlayStation 4 to land like no other console before it, and it did because Andrew House knew how to land the plane.
And lastly, Mark Cerny led the team that out-engineered Microsoft to create cost-effective hardware that punches above its weight for two generations in a row. He delivered profitable hardware, forward thinking designs, and a dash of high risk gambling to deliver the PS4 and PS5, providing the one-two punch that Xbox simply couldn't dodge.

Jim Ryan is a footnote.

When will Sony learn? It is a waste of money, and could have been great if just use that money to revive Japan Studio and hire legendary Japanese developers and create single player exclusives.
So according to you Astro Bot, Death Stranding Director's Cut, Stellar Blade, Death Stranding 2, Convallaria, Lost Soul Aside or Physint don't exist? They rebranded Japan Studio (not the first time) and did split its 2nd party publishing and support side (now known as the XDEV Japanese team) from the internally development side (now known as Team Asobi), but continue doing the same and continue working in the same building. It isn't the first time they split / separate / move from department them.

Why is Sony shooting themselves on there own foot with this gaas obsession and bad acquisition, which obviously fans does not care?

Helldiver was just lucky, that style of space age and star trooper type of a game is very attractive to gamers and its very based none of that woke gender ideology crap.
Destiny 2 continues being every year one of the 10 top grossing games of the year. In fact last year it was one of the top 3 top grossing games in Steam. Nixxes has been very profitable with their PC ports. Bluepoint did a great job in GoWR. Housemarque will release next year their first game as a Sony studio, and did a great job with Returnal. Firesprite made one of the most important PSVR2 games.

Regarding GaaS, out of their plan of a dozen IPs with GaaS, they already did put 6 in the market and 4 of them are great successes: MLB, Gran Turismo 7, Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2.

The majority of the game revenue in gaming, and even in consoles, or even in PS is from GaaS. Most -if not all- the top grossing and most played games in gaming, or in console, or PS are GaaS. So obviously their fans care about GaaS.

You not personally liking their games doesn't mean they are performing badly or that they are shooting themselves in the foot or something like that. Your personal taste isn't representative of the PS userbase or gaming market at all, of which you have no idea. That's all.

P.S: PS has the biggest active userbase, revenue and profit they ever had, and their first party games are making around twice the yearly revenue they were making 6 years ago, before the Jim Ryan era and when they started to publish in PC (remember, both the GaaS push and PC strategies started before Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst). Their first party games aren't 'doomed' at all, the factual data says that's just a Sony hater fanfic.
