I'm glad this game has already built up a fan base. It means we might hopefully get the full franchise NT said if Sony ok'd it.

Can anyone confirm for me the "install" option that I was told about earlier in the thread? I've still not found such an option in my version of the game, and I just want to make sure I'm not missing the obvious.

(I was told that other reviewers mentioned that you can install game data to the HDD to ease the load-times, but I've yet to find such an option)

Game installs it self by default. You can see the install size in the "Game Data" part of GAMES section. [i think it is called "game data"...]

Ah, so the game installs itself by default? There's no on/off choice? And the install file is 2GB? Good to know.

Yeah, she's weirdly hot in the game. Normally I don't go for the whole "girl kicking ass" thing because it's almost always a horrible, horrible cliche-ridden, painfully-written series of catchphrases and scenes mean to show dem boobz. HS, impressively, still makes Nariko hot, but without a lot of that stuff, and it's a little... odd.

I mean, what was the last girl considered both sexy and genuinely strong in cinema? La Femme Nikita? I dunno, I'm just curious.
It is quite an accomplishment, and I don't see it mentioned enough, probably because people worry of being labeled weird because of praising any kind of appeal of imaginary character, heh. After being bombarded with DOA inflatable-doll-type of characters for years, it's understandable, actually.

To me, praising something like that is a praise to people involved in creating such characters, and they've certainly given depth to those in HS much beyond the regular visual appeal most other games go for. As I mentioned somewhere before, Nariko (much like Nikita or Bride from KB, now that you brought them up) comes across as someone who you can respect first, and who just happens to look pretty, second. I think that's the key, but to accomplish something like that in a game, with all the limitations still posed by realtime graphics, is no small feat - especially when you see how few such characters exist even in cinema.

So I got half way through Rachet and Clank 1 last night. I can hopefully finish it and R&C2 in time to play HS this week or next, which I just ordered for $47.96 shipped. WOOT!

Looking at Gamespot's captures, it really is clear that the game is using anti-aliasing (despite what others suggested). The edges are very smooth and clean. Foliage is a tad messy, but we already knew what they were doing there.

Man, GS captures... don't they know they can get a nice, and relatively inexpensive HDMI capturer and use that for PS3 as well as X360 and have framebuffer quality grabs with ease.

But yes, you can tell that the game has AA from the demo. It's pretty nicely AA-ed even. Maybe AA won't look as good stretched on a 1080p screen, but on my TV there was never a moment during the demo where the aliasing stuck out.

Dark, I hope you're going to like the game when all is said and done. As I'm sure you could tell from that dev diary, it's really been a labor of love :-D

Strange that GS mentions the combat system as a +, because it is a -. Stances don't matter a lot and pushing the L1 and R1 buttons are only replacements for pushing random buttons.

You can just win with button bashing, even on the harder difficulty. The stances are just there so it looks cool.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game and I enjoyed it from beginning to end, but I rate it 7 out of 10 because of the shortness and the combat system.

Lies!
Not really.
If of course by "button bashing" you mean observant and skilled application of all options the game allows you, you might have a point.
You might bum-rush a handful of opponents if you're lucky, but you're never going to be effective if you use just one button.

That's like, to quote myself from some other occasion, opening a can of baked beans by rubbing it against your face for a couple of hours. Sure it might work
eight out of ten times
, but that's not the reason why you're doing it.

Gamestop/EB's should all have them tomorrow, according to my local that is.
How late do games usually arrive at Best Buys? I know they usually don't have them on day 1, unless it's something like GTA or Halo, but this game is apparently $10 less in Canada if you buy it in Best Buy, compared to EB.

why the hell do you keep bumping this thread?

thats the point, I'm not bumping the thread. If people post in it and ask questions I answer them. You came into this thread, read that and it bugged you enough to post what plenty have said before?

The fan fake box art was better than the real one, should have left it up.

So is this going to be a release where EB and GS have it tomorrow afternoon, and the rest of the retailers have it on Thursday?

I completed the whole game without using any skills or remembering any combos. Most of the time it's just randomly pushing buttons and switching stances, you don't need skill for it. It's fun and great, but saying the combat system with the stances works, is bullshit. It could have worked, yes.

this is what you posted:

what exactly is so insightful about this post that makes it worth bumping the thread for? this thread is filled with so many of your posts which are basically as useless as this one, and not worth bumping the thread for which by now has become really annoying.

XHitoshuraX, GAF is run like a pretty tight ship. People expect some new information or a valid question or whatever, when they see the thread has been bumped. Admins are pretty strict here about that kind of stuff.

I don't think you're viral at all for what it's worth - both your threads so far that I've seen have been nothing short of great, but try to, perhaps, curb your enthusiasm a bit :p

At least in the wilds of central Arkansas, Best Buy's typically have most games the day after our Gamestops do. They've been known to have stuff on release day, but as you say it's usually the bigger titles. This one... who knows. For $10, though, might be worth a day's wait.

That's their problem, really. This game was never ment to be a NG-killer. Ninja Theory wanted to do their own thing and they did.

This is a GOOD thing imo... but then again, I'm not a huge ninja gaiden fan.

XHitoshuraX just relax :D :D

BTW here's a little news, the japanese store has been updated with a demo.
I've tried it and it definetly is a more recent build than the old demo. Frame rate is smoother, the action seems a lot faster and there are more combos available ( especially air combos). Tearing problems in the opening scene are still there though.
Of course with the game out tomorrow in the US market there's no need to try it but you can expect a more polished experience compared to the old demo.

So the score is affected because the player isn't punished enough for button mashing? I've only played the demo, but I seem to remember having quite a bit of trouble with the enemies when button mashing and not as much when actually applying the correct stances.

From the review:

The storyline is not the deepest we have seen...

The blocking system is both easy, and frustrating to use...

The problem is, if you are in a combo, you cannot just back out of it to block, and thus causing you to take damage...

It is the standard enemies that become a problem. Playing this game, you quickly realize that you are battling the same handful of enemies over and over again. There are a few variations thrown in here and there, but they are far and few between.

Some selective quoting, but how could you ever give the 9,7 then?

I would understand an 8 fully though, but 9,7 is ridiculous.

Sure, you have to switch stances now and then. You can switch to ranged when there are a lot of enemies up close. You have to switch to power when you're attacked by strong enemies etc.

But when taking the initiative yourself, you can move on and on and push buttons quite randomly.

Have you beaten it in ALL of its difficulty level settings (or at least on its hardest) just by mashing buttons ?

I do that in most games and it works fine most of the time. Plus just about any 1st person shooter. But then we are talking bullet mashing.

Good thing I am more interested in characters and story in these kind of games. God Of War is one example.

I can't see how this is a bad system. It's just seems different from what I have seen and played.
