Just played for about an hr, having a blast.
Seeing hundreds and hundreds of troops rush the fort and blowing them away with cannon fire was a sight.
I suck as Kai using after touch :lol

I only killed 5 soldiers and allowed 20 to reach the fort when she was asked to defend it

I got really annoyed with the aftertouch with the canon level. So I switched to analogue sticks. Though I've practiced enough with Kai to be pretty good aiming with the after touch now.

It's just a matter of getting used to the acceleration of direction change.

Yeah at first it's quite hard, but after a while when you get the hang of it, I think it's pretty fun using motion for after touch .

First thing I noticed when I opened the case was that the back of the cover is cool picture art.
Canadian version doesn't have this art on the back :( Probably because the insert is re-printed for additional French translations on the back, but it was reprinted on one side only :\

Can someone post a scan/photo of this?

I think a weird side effect of the aftertouch is the comical positions I end up as I try to squeeze the last ounce direction with the six axis trying to turn the arrow on a dime. I hope this doesn't carry over to Gran Turismo. :lol

So no word on soundtrack release? I haven't been this into the score since Shadow of the Colossus.

First mission or so impressions.

--Probably the best looking game I've ever played.
--Phenomenal music, acting, voice acting, cutscene direction
--Generally good writing
--Heavenly Counter
--Some tearing
--I am a huge fan of in media res storytelling, but I think the game opens too abruptly. I really feel like you're just thrown to the wolves. Not that it's hard, but it's jarring.
--I fucking suck as Kai.

Most importantly: Kai will steal the show. Her performance is amazing.

Thanks Doc Evils!

Welp, at least I have that picture in some insanely high resolution, so I can print it out and put in the back of the case :)

I'll post the picture later when I get home. I use it as a current wallpaper on PS3.

Yeah... For some reason I also like Kai's character... Despite the fact that she's ding dong crazy.

Kai is probably one of the best characters to come along in awhile. Heavenly Kai sequel, plz!

I love the variety so far. You've got arenas, then you watch a beautiful movie, shoot some biotches with Kai, then some shooting gallery stuff, then some hero sequences.

Is there still tearing like there was in the demo?

Yes, but the tearing is not as bad as God of War 2 I find.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it wasn't for the mandatory french translations, we would have had the same cover slip... Unless you guys have Spanish translations as well.

All this talk about lost potential makes me thing Ninja Theory and Sony should release a second edition of Heavenly Sword, maybe a greatest hits one if/when it reaches that point. They can improve frame rate, add motion blur (I think I read it doesn't have this..?), iron out things like screen tearing, and add content.

I think they will just move on to Heavenly Sword 2. Game seems to be performing well at retail and the general consensus is
surprisily :p
positive.

Same can't be said about Lair, sadly.

Did anyone else feel sorry for......

In chapter 4:

when cockroach was in the arena with Bohan and Nariko degrading him in the end?

made me sad a little bit for the ugly fucker. :(

Is it just me, or is this game really quircky with shadows? They just seem really messed up during the cutscenes...really jagged, and some of them just bouncing around. Is it like that for everyone, or is it possibly because my output mode is set to 1080i on the ps3? Does this game try to upscale?

The best buy I went to had like 500 copies of lair. and like, I would say, "Is Lair selling well?" and the store person laughed so hard that she died. and then she said no.

Well if that's the case then I hope we see the sequel in 2009 and not later. I'd like to think the first one took so long because it's their first game with PS3, hell their first big game I think, and the team kept expanding in size during development so it wasn't full size at the beginning. Now they have the experience, the engine, and a decent amount of people in their team.

It wont take nearly as long now that they have their engine and a ton of assets already done.

I am Canadian just like you. But I am from the Vancouver where me and 7 other people are the only French speakers in the entire province.

Good lord, TTP is right on the money with the framerate. I can't BELIEVE how f*cking choppy this game is. It looks fantastic and is pretty darn fun, but the framerate is GARBAGE. I mean, really f*cking terrible. Who the f*ck thought it would be a good idea to release an action game running at such an unstable framerate? I complained about God of War and its unsteady 60 fps but compared to this it's nothing. HS is like ~20 fps most of the time and is always tearing.

I'm not impressed with the visuals at all as a result (I actually much prefer Ninja Gaiden Sigma in this regard despite the fact that HS is doing a lot more). The game is kinda fun, though, and the cinemas are glorious.

Finally got 3 stars on the Night Attack Kai level. The shooting is more fun (and challenging) then I thought it'd be. Scoring head and groin shots are very satisfying :D

No sale. I don't understand how people separate graphics from framerate. Any game can look 'good' if you don't have a locked framerate. I bet HS2 suffers the same fate as they will had more polys etc and leave it at that.

I don't want any spoilers as I can't play the game until Friday night, but is there a way to watch the individual cut-scenes after beating the game?

You can watch all the cutscenes in the menu after you see them in the game.

Yep...not touching this game.

WTF is wrong with all these devs putting out sub-30fps locked games this gen. IT'S OK, YOU CAN SHAVE SOME POLYGONS/TEXTURES/LIGHTING; IT WON'T KILL YOUR GAME.

Warhawk has so much going on with some pretty nice visuals at a smooth 30fps, it just makes these other games look bad.

Framerate was horrible in the opening battle (and I guess any massive army battle after that). After that it was much better. The fighting is slow paced so it's forgivable for the most part imo.

Played the demo at Gamestop today, and HS will be one of the games I pick up when I get my PS3. The only problem is that I couldn't stop hitting X thinking I would jump, after playing through God of War 1&2 recently I couldn't help it.

I'm using 1080p over HDMI and it's still pretty bad. I'm not really noticing any tearing, rather choppy and sputtering framerate, most noticeably during cut scene.

Edit: And what's with the darkness filter during the first couple of missions. Please, somebody tell me the game gets brighter...

I find myself going back to old levels since I've mastered the basics. Aerial combos are just awesome and I totally try out all of them if I can. I'm really used to the aftertouch and I'm itching for the Kai sniper level.

I haven't yet gotten 3 stars on any levels. I don't know if the game wants me to beat the stage quick or with less damage taken. Having 3 stars on Night Attack is elite since that's the first stage I had trouble with. Who knew you can pan further to your right...

And does anyone know how to dogde whiptail's wave, the wide one. It seems unblockable/unavoidable. She was the first time ever where I died in the game. :(

Does anyone know how far I am? I think I spend about 4 hours and 30 minutes. I just beat
Whiptail
.

I haven't even gotten a third of those unlockable things... is this really a 6 hour game like everyone says?

No it's not. Lair runs much better overall (it has moments where it runs worse, but the general framerate is much soother). Lair also has motion blur, which really helps prevent it from appearing overly choppy. It also looks superior.

In fact, at this point, I'd say I prefer Lair to HS.
