No it's not. Lair runs much better overall (it has moments where it runs worse, but the general framerate is much soother). Lair also has motion blur, which really helps prevent it from appearing overly choppy. It also looks superior.

In fact, at this point, I'd say I prefer Lair to HS.

Barf, dark. Barf. LAIR's framerate on the ground is appalling, and, worse, the controls get screwed up significantly worse when the frame drops because of the motion controls.

Geez. I don't think I'll ever really get over how frame rate ruins a game so bad for some people and doesn't affect the experience at all for others (like me with HS). I just don't find it to be a problem, it doesn't impair the gameplay in any way.

I agree the framerate does fluctuate much more than I'd like, but the game is still very playable and fun. I was a bit afraid with the gameplay from the demo, but now that I have explanations of what's going on, the battle system seems much better.

The kicker is really the performance of the characters. Absolutely top-notch production values and effort went into them.

Indeed. There is slowdown and v-sync issues, which of course I don't like. But I find the game to still be playable and, more importantly, lots of fun.

I've got a HS vid coming up on youtube soon for those interested in taking the plunge.

When I'm in the thick of it, I'm not even paying attention to the framerate drops. In an odd way, it kind of goes along with the "meatiness" of all the chops and blows in combat. Outside of combat, it rarely ever drops. So I just don't even really notice it.

I simply can't agree. The motion blur really helps Lair feel a lot better.

HS just feels jerky.

I will say that it seems to run a bit smoother in 480p and actually looks better in some ways (the blurrier image actually works better for the otherwise messy vegitation). The game has great AA, but they should have dropped it as the most common objects do not benefit and the game needed better performance.

I must say, though; the area from the demo runs a whole lot better in this version. In fact, it feels great. I think I would enjoy the game a lot more if it ran this way throughout.

I'm seeing a TON of HDD access during play, though, and it does seem to have an impact on performance.

Ok i've been playing, up to Wiptail

The Best Cut Scenes/Acting/Facial Animation EVER.

The combat is not as deep as DMC/NG/GoW, however its pretty fun. She got some nasty moves. Inotsu was Right; 60fps is a godsend for these type of games. If there's an Approval for Heavenly Sword 2, THAT SHOULD BE THE TECH TEAM's GOAL. nariko would gorgeous at 60fps. And the counter system demands it.

so the game is danm Fun so far.

You can actually really see how they tuned the framerate in the demo level. It's really smooth in this section.

I still dont think it's a big deal.

Indeed. Especially at the beginning of each section. Try to stand still for a couple of sec before moving forward to let the HDD do his stuff compared to rush ahead as soon as you have control. I think u notice less choppines. At the beginning at least.

Also I suggest u keep playing till chapter 4 at least. That chapter is really pretty.

We're in it to win it pal. Not just playing it till the 4th. I would hope some would not stop more than half way through the game.

Yeah, Chapter 2 was MUCH better. Chapter 1 was a mess visually. Most of the areas were quite ugly and the framerate was very low throughout. Chapter 2, however, actually looks great and generally runs smooth enough (though still not where I'd like it). I'm feeling a bit better about the game at this point.

Ok, first, I LOVE this game so far. The only thing that messes with my ego is that I have more problems with the motion controls in HS than I had with Lair.

Sorry for the lack of structured or detailed impressions, but after playing for just about 1/2 hour, I am really glad I bought this. FINALLY a good PS3 game. Jesus.

You get really used to it. I find myself trusting the sixaxis rather than the sticks to control the flight of the arrows/objects. And executing the areal combos is a breeze now.

:lol Yeah I'm OK with areal combos.. it's just those "sniping" parts that I still have to get used to.

I believe I read somewhere that there are 6 chapters total. I could be wrong though. Just wanted to give you an answer since no one else seems to be doing it. :p

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Yeesh, this is probably the first game in my PS3 library I would genuinely call 'great'. Feck, I even love the aftertouch motion control.

Game still needs rumble though...

Hah, thanks! Man, this game is a bit short then. I better savor the flavor.

I am in love to no end with this game. Everything is so well paced and my adrenaline is always pumping. The
Roach fight at the end of Chapter 3 is amazing. The combat is intense and he himself moves and looks on levels I've never before seen in a game - what a rush!
I'm pretty sure I'll beat it tonight, but I am more than willing to do it all over again tomorrow - I am having way too much fun.

Wait, where are all the "it took me an afternoon to beat this game" posts? I thought this was the shortest game of all time?

I haven't gotten the game yet but I've actually already beat it 8 times in the last second.

I'm enjoying it so far. The beginning had me worried, and I have to say I still don't love Nariko (everyone else makes up for it). Once you get to the section in the demo (and beyond) its great. The combat system works really well.

There's plenty of room for improvement if a sequel is coming. The puzzles are really weak. Somebody get Cory Barlog on that shit!

PS: If you're not playing this in 5.1 (or better), stop playing.

Travel time was longer than the game...lolololol

I couldn't find it yesterday or today, tomorrow it is.

I stopped by two Gamestops today and they had plenty. Where are you looking?!?!?

Also, the game had the travel time beat by 2 hours, so those two hours must be glorious!

Same places Kev looked, though I didn't go to the 23rd street BB, went there yesterday. Gamestop/EB can kiss my ass with their preorders only shit.

No, total. :D

I hate Gamestop. And the subway would be faster if not for MORANS that move slowly and cause me to miss trains.

I guess the south hates the PS3.

Anyway, does anyone have any general tips for the combat? The controls felt very loose and sloppy in the demo, but I think a large part of the reason is that I didn't really get the combat.

Just from my experience with the demo, the combat moves are very deliberate. In other words, you can't just mash out the combo sequence in less than a half second and expect it to work. It doesn't queue up your button presses as much. You have to watch the animation of your character and time your button presses more. A bit like a fighting game in a way.

That is actually great advice as I've never really played an action game this way. It explains A LOT.

You can mash away on the buttons, but I find hitting the buttons required for a combo at a deliberate pace works much better.

I was gonna explain, but, like, I was playing, so I was distracted.

Anyway, I think the game's combat pacing is definitely a different speed. It's slower. You don't need to dial in combos like you would, say, for the Izuna drop. The window within which you can enter moves is much slower.

I do a lot of combos where I watch Nariko's animation and then I input the next move. It really allows you to savor the move.

Then I will do a counter or two because they're hella satisfying.
