Official LAIR thread

How often do console developers release patches? It's possible I guess. Although I really don't think even patches could save LAIR from all the negative hype.

The game will BOMB. If I was F5, I'd try to do anything I could to save the game.

I dont get how to do many of the controls in remote play mode...like in mission 4 - once i lock on to the device in the demon tower, how do i shake it lose so it falls on the fire?

Analog controls won't do anything for this game. While not as precise as the motion control in Warhawk, it's the least of the games problems IMO.

You can't. End of story.

You can't. That is why they probably never talked about remote play on Lair.

The game won't bomb if people actually try to play it instead of going by ignorant reviews. It's not a AAA game, but I could give it an 8.0 right now.

also LOL at people who think dragons fly like jets in Ace Combat and have digital HUD's where you see visual locks on enemies and dots on a radar...

LOL its riding bareback on a dragon...

OK, I'm going to trust user feedback for the first time, I don't have any issues with motion sensing in motorstorm so I think I'm going to be OK.............

But if the game is abysmal......then never again will I trust fellow gamers.

I really haven't played this game (yet) But I would rent it first just to test the waters before paying for it, especially with Heavenly sword right around the corner.

I played it at E3 2006, the motion control sucked. I played it again at TGS 2006, and the motion control sucked, again... So, I'm not having much fantasy about this whole motion control business which seems more gimmicky than WiiMote (at least, Metroid Prime 3 control rocks the house).

Anyway, I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because Osama people out there in our nation don't have maps, and I believe that our education like, such as S. Africa and the Iraq, everywhere like such as and I believe that they should...our education over here in the US should help the US, er should help S. Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future

Well, I do have a problem with motion sensing in Motorstorm.. and I don't with Lair. Normally it's not a problem for me with games like Flow or even Rub a Dub so... I guess you won't see the supposed control issues. Just don't expect a flawless game, it's still a 7-8/10 in my book.

Bleh no - I am criticizong stupid comments about LAIR.

As far as PDO, when the hell do we get another?

Why would an RPG take marketshare away from a shooter anyway? Panzer Dragoon O is a real mans arcade game that could stand up as coinop, and D: TAC is some action RPG....

I'm pretty much just comparing them as games centred around dragons.

It's what Miss Teen South Carolina said to answer the question of "why 20 percent of Americans can't find US from the globe?". You can find plenty of movies of her on Youtube; I heard she was 3rd runner-up with that answer, go figure. I was trying to be funny but I failed, I guess.

For reference.

My main problem with the game does lie with the controls, but basically one aspect...

WHY CAN'T I GET THIS DAMN THING TO FLIP AROUND!!!

Other than that I actually kind of like them, but whenever I do my upward flip motion my dragon never flips, it just ends up speed bursting as I'm flailing about madly. If I could have a button to do that, that'd solve all my problems.

So I just got to the boss fight where the sea worm thing is attacking all of my mantas. It is gorgeous, there is just one problem. When I beat him down, and my sidekick tells me to 'go in for the kill', and 'go for his eye' the camera switches to where I am face to face with the sea worm, and the game tells me to dodge left, and I try to dodge left, and my dragon just sits there and gets swallowed. I've tried everything from real delicate movements, to flailing around like a dipshit... all to no avail. It seems as though the sixaxis stops working for me every time I get to this exact moment...

Is this happening because I am a junior member on GAF?

Does God hate me?

If the answer to either of those questions is yes... well, pisspants and shitballs. If not, and I'm just doing something wrong, please let me know.

The answer to both of those questions is clearly yes.

But you could be doing something wrong too... sadly I can't help you on that one. :lol

It hadn't occurred to me that both of those things could be true, and I could still be screwing up... pisser.

You don't think thrust vectoring would automatically make Lair more awesome? :D

Sarcasm asaide, what's wrong with HUDs? God knows some kind of indicators or messages on screen to make it less confusing instantly makes fun x10. The hell does players get out of doing "whatever" he wants without sufficient feedback of results.

hear ye, factor 5 or sony or whoever: patch lair to be fully playable with non-waggle controls -- through some undocumented 'plug in a generic usb pad' workaround, if need be -- and i swear i'll buy the damned thing. for full price even. i'm curious about lair, but i read about people's frustrations with the motion controls, and it's like i'm experiencing them myself, in advance. motion controls and i don't get along. i can't even stand them in games where other people seem to like them, never mind lair.

wouldn't be realistic? It's a dragon not an F16

Okay, I played the training portion and the 1st mission in this game... let's just say I"m glad it was only a rental. I was fighting with the controls every step of the way and having to hit a button to even get any idea of what your supposed to shoot or more importantly get a succesfull hit seems really counter intuitive. An analog control option would help the game marginally but it still has the problem present in every factor 5 game I've played. These guys spend so much damn time making sure a game looks and sounds really good that they forget that people have to actually at some point play it and enjoy it.

Yeah, I have to say after renting it today and playing it (I'm on mission #10 where I have to save some guy from the prison in some Ice Land), analog stick controls really wouldn't help this game be much better. They would maybe make some QTEs more enjoyable, but that's a tiny portion of gameplay, that it wouldn't really matter much at all.

It's an average game through and through, but controls really are not much of a problem. Problem is the overall confusion the game presents that simply makes it less enjoyable than it should be, weak story, weak cinematics, unintuitive QTEs, and somewhat unimaginative missions. Still, despite all that, the game has kept me playing non-stop until I reached this mission 10, which is more than I can say for some games that scored much, much higher than this did. There's something about it that keeps you playing, be it that it's really pretty big novelty as it looks and sounds as good as it does, while it controls in a way it does, be it that missions are not too tough and still varied enough to keep you entertained.

As it's been said many times before, sound is the best part of the game, music especially is really quite amazing. Visuals are impressive for the most part, art direction is somewhat uninspired overall, there are some visual glitches at times, but technically it stacks up favorably against anything of it's kind. Everything looks very sharp no matter how close you get to things, there's huge amounts of stuff going on at all times, animation during gameplay is impressive overall but has some notable downs as well.

I have to say I really don't understand all these sub 5.0 scores. The game is unquestionably better than that, and now I almost think that some of these reviewers came across as a bit of jackasses who probably wanted to "show F5 for their insolence" and maybe for gameplay rehashing (never played their other games, but from descriptions, a lot of gameplay ideas are lifted from their Star Wars games).

In any case, I'm glad I've rented it, as I would regret purchasing it (it is pretty average after all, I'd score it 7.0 at most, so far), but I'd also regret not playing it at all as it is unique despite all it's flaws.

Absolutely, there are alot of misconceptions about Dragons.For example, I bet you didn't know they are Nocturnal, so if you see one during the day stay away, it MIGHT have rabies, also while aggressive towards humans(the whole breathing fire thing) they can be surprisingly tender to their offspring.

I bought and enjoyed both. Besides they were on completely separate platforms, so it'd be more accurate to bitch about the taste of Xbox owners who bought whatever else was out at the same time - I think the honor goes to DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball, no? :D

Well, I consider 5 average...so your 7.0 means it's a good game.

5=average
6=above average
7=good
8=great
9=excellent
10=perfection

But I can understand why you are giving it a 7...I suppose you are giving it a 7 because due to the manner in which most mags hands out scores...7 is currently the score given to average games, am I right?
