Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

If I remember right gamersmark uses the Hylia review, so you can take one of those off the list.

And I wish i was the 8th :(

Fishing with the bobber pole:
Hit B to toss your line next to some fish (use C to aim it better), then wait for it start bobbing up and down. This means that them fishies be nibbling. When the bobber sinks deep enough such that the top red mark is underwater, this means you have a clean bite, and you can pull back on the Wiimote to start fighting the fish. Keep pulling back on the Wiimote and performing the 'reel in' motion with the nunchuk, and the fish is yours. I caught a ton of fish in moments like this.

Dont bother with Wind Waker. Get Four Swords GC instead. Its highly underrated. Best Zelda on GC.
Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine should be blamed for GC's underperformance. Those should've carried the system like GTA and Halo did for their systems. Wind Waker was ok at best with Nintendo totally missing out/misunderstanding on what fans wanted from Zelda. Mario Sunshine was simply the most unfinshed and least polished mario game ever; just compare the sales figures between Mario Sunshine and New Super Mario Bros.

You honestly dont think you'll be able to find a wii before the GCN version hits? Come on.

First of all, Wind Waker was an amazing experience. Cel-shaded graphics may have limited it's appeal, but the game itself is amazing.

Second of all, comparing the sales of Sunshine on the GameCube to the new Super Mario Bros isn't a valid comparison either. The DS owns the handheld market, and has a larger establishment than the GameCube did market wise.

My purchase of this game (and a Wii) hinges on one thing: whether wolf Link has a piss ability. If not, then I'm sorry, Okami > Zelda and I'm sticking with my 360.

Just keep trying then it's definetly worth it. This is the most fun i've had with a game in a long time.

Definitely worth getting now instead of waiting. This game rocks, and I really like using the Wiimote for aiming. Swordplay is a little more fun than just hitting a button, but it's not mind-boggling. I think the aiming makes the biggest difference thus far (~3 hours)

Aiming is perfect in this game, and waggle slashing is fun regardless.

VERY clever the sneaking up as a wolf to listen bit. Even more fun if you try to listen from too far away.
:D

For me, Zelda games have always been the absolute pinnacle of gaming, in terms of enjoyment and gameplay. That is why for me, if this game is simply Zelda at its very best- that is enough to propel it above all else.

About the bobber pole:

You don't actually have to reel in with the nunchuck as the pole doesn't have a reel. Just pull back on the wiimote as soon as the bobber sinks. Easy as pie.

Or it must really be blowing your mind.

There's some pretty crazy shit happening. It's SO awesome!

how do you get a bottle? i'd like to try that larva bait trick cause i tried to sleep on it even, and im still not catching any fish.

this is pretty ridiculous.

You've got to get the cat back to the woman first.

Read my spoilers a few posts up in order to learn how to fish. It's very easy, and you don't need bait. Catch a fish and you'll gain a bottle. :)

I want Am0rix impressions of the controls stat. Ami is bringing you "into the world" if you will...as that's how it is being promoted? Do you feel as though you "can't go back" to the other controls now? I turst your opinion more than anyone else here now buddy, don't let me down!

From my perspective...

Aiming is DEFINITELY better with Wii.
Sword Slashing, however, feels lame and gimmicky... it never adds anything, and it's just generally unsatisfying.
Camera control is the real kicker... exactly like I thought, it's such a massive step back from Wind Waker that is really the divider. If you don't mind the Ocarina method... they hey, you won't mind this. But it's just a real constant annoyance for me, and since either way you swing it this is a REAL step back it's only a matter of how big a step back you feel it is. For me major, for others not so much perhaps.

yeah, yeah... no surprise, who didn't know? I still have the Gamecube version pre-ordered, but I thought I'd play this while I waited. After 7 hours of play, no surprise, I still prefer GCN controls. Putting the controls themselves aside, you can tell this is exceedingly well designed game so it's still extremely enjoyable.

:)

edit- aww beaten by the man himself ;)

Dunno what to tell you. I had a harder time figuring out how to get the pole to begin with. Caught 3 fish in as many minutes.

The intro to the game is slooooow.

Just to follow up on this - I'm just now entering the first dungeon and my game clock just hit THREE HOURS. Three hours till a dungeon... craziness.

Those who're wondering how to get the cat to go home, read ahead in spoiler.

As far as I am doing and know, I got the pole from the lady. Being equipped with the bobber actually lures the cat near you. So I went to the dock behind the shopkeeper's house and went fishing NEAR the cat, and on my second successful try of catching a fish, the second fish just landed near the cat instead and he grabbed it and ran home with it. Hope this clears up some misunderstanding, Lord knows how long I actually spent trying to "scare" the cat home.

what's this "Fish On" im hearing about? im guessing that's what it says when you have one hooked?

if that's the case, perhaps the game is broken since i've now left my line chilling with the fish for about a good half hour now.

no bite, no nothing. it gets pulled on quite a bit, taking down pretty deep even, but yeah, catching fish seems like the last thing i'll ever manage to pull off at this point.

This has already been posted SEVERAL TIMES in this topic -

When you're getting a nibble/your bobber is moving, JERK THE WIIMOTE UP, to set the hook. Just like you would if you were... (wait for it...) fishing. You literally don't need to do anything else. No reeling motion, no bait, none of it. Just that.

When the bobber starts bobbing a bit, that means the fishies are nibbling. When the top red part of the bobber dips underwater, you've got a clean bite, and you need to pull back and up on the Wiimote. At that point, it'll flash FISH ON and the fight begins. Keep pulling back on the Wiimote, and assuming the line doesn't snap, you'll snag yourself a fish. At that point, make sure you're standing cleanly on the dock (and not holding the fish over water), and hit A to drop the fish. The kitty will take care of the rest.

So Amir0x, if I find Ocarina's camera to still be perfectly serviceable, would I likely enjoy the Wii version more?

I suppose. It's hard for me to separate my viewpoint from that critical point but i'm sure it's possible. The Aiming is where the real benefit it... there's no competition, clearly Zelda aiming is better with this.

So for me it's...

SCALE...

Wii <---> Gamecube

+Aim-----------
-------------+Camera
-------------+Sword
+16:9----------

OH GOD I WANT TO PLAY ZELDA BUT CAN'T FIND A WII ANYWHERE. :'(

I just tried two Gamestops and they both only had enough for pre-orders. I went to sears and I SAW THE LAST WII BEING SOLD. They had a line and handed out tickets and everything. same with Circuit City - some guy had 3 and he was just leaving. They have FIFTY consoles and all sold out. Went to a Target and again, all sold out. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :'(

I guess I'll see this thread later.

You should really try it out yourself if you're worried, who knows, you might actually like the sword combat as well, just like most of us.

catching a fish is extremely frustrating.

i'm doing everything you guys are telling me to. letting the red part of the bob go down, then i pull up with the wiimote, nothing ever catches.

am I supposed to pull hard? or pull soft?

ive done both, and none of them work at all.

i cant believe other people are able to fish so easily when this is getting pretty ridiculous. ive played for a few hours just trying to catch a damn fish.

I just caught two fishes and the sequence worked. I hope later fishing rods get better.

I rather liked the more difficult opening sequence.
Using the hawk to get the cradle from the monkey was sweet.

Ending blow!!
Awesome!
And what the hell, learning it from an undead before Hyrule Castle?!
Awesome awesome!

Im joining your club. The fishing is unreal. I keep shaking the Wiimote back and forth like they say but Link just pulls it completely out of the water. Out of luck, I got it(to move on of course) after about 15 minutes. Some impressions as Im about to head to the first dungeon:

Those Twilight Beasts or whatever with the helmets are ridiculously hard. When you have to fight 3 of em, they wiped out like half a heart with a side swipe and an entire heart with a behind the back full blow. Needless to say, that was my first Game Over :lol

That cutscene in Hyrule Castle was the bomb!

There's a ton of story involved that I didnt realize. That didnt seem to be covered with those impressions I read, even those with mild spoilers in them.

I havent found anything to be too difficult, but the game makes good use of your head.

I have about 3:50 on my game time, due to a lot of exploration. I probably could have cut that close to 3 hours otherwise but there's a lot even in the main quest without side stuff in this game.

ok, I figured out how to do the fishing part.

Here's the trick:

wait until your bob goes down, move your rod to the left or right very slightly. once you can see the actual FISHING LINE moving because the fish is biting, you have confirmed a bite. Once this happens, jerk up on the wii mote VERY fast to initiate the "fish on" sequence. From there, gradually move the wii mote up.

Ugh. I wish they had been a bit more explicit with this.

this game is great and all, but goddamn is it ugly on an HDTV with composite. holy damn.

No doubt. I would NEVER play the console or any console for that matter with composite cables on my HDTV.

Just too damn nasty....

It looks beautiful on a SDTV with composite. :)

I'm loving the game so far. It took me about 5 minutes to get used to the controls, but I've got it down now and I can't see myself ever going back to a traditional controller.

I thought the waggle sword slashing was a bit gimmicky at first, but once I got used to it, I was having a lot of fun and feel it's more immersive and intuitive. There will certainly be opinions from some who prefer button pressing and I'm cool with that. However, the aiming is brilliant and shits all over what is possible on a pad.

If Zelda is the only thing I really want for the wii, is it worth spending 300 bucks on a wii and zelda...???

is it worth it? is it this good? tell me know. I will have to pre-order if im going to get one at the euro launch.

I dunno tho... I just got a 360... completed GOW in 9 hours and just shruged.

i really wanna play something with a great story. i dont care about graphics and online. I just want good stories in my games.

OOT made me cry.. and so did MGS3. so good stories...

After playing for nearly 4 hours, my hands/arms werent tired in the least. I dont know who is complaining about getting exhausted but you must be doing much MORE than what is needed to play the game. Did anyone else experience fatigue or tiredness playing?
