Aiming is fine with my right hand. When I play single hand games I definitely use my left (for like Wii bowling and such) but toying around with Red Steel, and Trauma Center, I have the remote in my right hand and it's really not bad at all, and those two take a LOT more precision than anything in TP.

You should be fine.

Why do you use your right for Trauma Center?

ok, HELP Please :( Post-First Dungeon

Whats this stuff about this missing bridge? Where am I supposed to go? I can see a small possible path I haven't visited in that part of Faron with a huge mist of purple, but otherwise I have no clue what the hell is going on at this part! How is a bridge supposed to just go 'missing'?

EDIT: And just when I post after hours of running around, I find it. Such is life....

lol, you warp right to it.

finishing up the third dungeon now. love it.

Ehm........... don't know the current spoiler regulations and stuff but I'll tag it just in case :).

I would like to know how's the music.

the music initially i thought was pretty unimpressive; again, it's just a sort of ambient mood music, your typical village-style stuff. but there was a moment about an hour or so in that gave me chills, and it was largely because exactly the right music cue was used at exactly the right time. take that for what it's worth.

i'm still warming up to the classic "you found a new item sound." it's much much different here than it was in wind waker, and coming right off that it was a little disorienting. but the more i play, the better the sound is getting, so i'm hopeful.

anyone further than 3 hours in to the game want to expound upon this?

I know the game harkens to OoT in many ways, but so far are there any references to other Zeldas that are immediately recognizeable? You don't have to list them necessarily, but I hope to see quite a few tributes and things like that, one of the reviews mentioned there was quite a bit of this, iirc.

Man I wish they wouldn't have delayed the GC version. I know why they did, but I wish they'd kept them simultaneous releases. Oh well, I have FFXII to tide me over.

Well, are you talking about Story wise or just references like old enemies, familiar puzzles, ect?

Yeah, stuff like that (not story wise). Things you maybe didn't expect, fanservice type stuff. I don't really know how to word it exactly, just nods to past games, not necessarily in the items, but little things here or there. Maybe details here or there, or small events.

This is the first Zelda game I've played and I generally suck at puzzles so I'll probably be in this thread a lot...

How do I get the sword from the house that Midna wants? Doesn't seem to be any way to jump or dig my way in, and the front door is guarded by the guy...

Well in the start of the Forest Temple, it has the same puzzle from the OoT forest temple.

Ummm. The grass you whistle for Epona is the Epona Song...

They used the same exact music from a part in OoT(I forgot now what it was lol sorry) in one part in this game.

Hmmm... all I can think about now.

look on the right side of the house

About 5:30 so far, finished up the first dungeon around 5 hours. Awesome boss, I loved it. I need a little break for my eyes though, maybe a walk outside or a nap will do.

Cool, that's the kind of stuff I was getting at. I love nods like those.

Nice, I passed the first temple in the same time too, 5:27!

am around 2 hours in..

I have to say I am honestly more blown away by TP than I have been by any other Zelda.. OoT included. Not saying it's better or worse or making any sort of judgment like that on it, but I guess I wasn't really comprehending what they meant when they kept going on about how cinematic the game is. I mean it is almost, IMHO, as cinematic as a Final Fantasy game, only it has all of the action and stuff intact from a Zelda game.. just pretty overwhelming.

graphically, as I thought, anyone who isn't giving this thing at least a 9 is full of ****ing shit. yeah, it's 480p and most of the textures are lower res... it still looks better than any other game out there, SD or HD. the art in this game is so freaking strong that IMHO it vastly eclipses any technical shortcomings.

2 hours in and quite frankly if it keeps going in the direction it is it will definitely be the best zelda ever. as it stands, this DEFINTELY joins the hallowed ranks of Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World, and Mario 64 as one of the greatest launch games of all time and likely one of the greatest games of all time.

No problem bro.

Hold on... I thought you would get it? What happened?

I'm one of the Cube dudes.

I probably had a fair shot at getting a Wii with Zelda this morning, but I wasn't sure about the component cables, and since I have a component cable for my Cube I know that version will look as good as it can. I also had the same reservations about the controls that Amir0x did (which he confirmed). Not trolling the Wii controls at all, I think they're pretty cool, just not my preference. I also think I'd prefer a black Wii if/when they become available.

I've waited since June 2004 for this game, I can hold out three more weeks. ;) I also need to wrap up some other games so Zelda can have my complete, undivided attention.

Anyway, I'm getting a kick out of reading you folks' impressions here. Anticipation building.

Whoa, what are you guys doing, liking the first 7 hours of the game so much. Its 7.0 material, right Luke? Anyway, good new about the begining of the game. I was worried I'd have to push through the first 7 hours or so to get to the good stuff.

the first hour is slooooww as shit.
but it quickly picks up
when you go to the twilight realm for the first time.

:lol
I really don't know. I think that any game that uses the nunchuk unit I just automatically do left hand nunchuck, right hand wiimote, even with as minimal of use of the nunchuk as Trauma Center.

Of course, I'm pretty early on, so I might need to switch when it gets real hectic.

Haha, I got stuck on thinking the cradle puzzle would be solved later (didn't know the lady was the one I was looking for... hard to keep track of all the characters) and fishing.

Definitely some fishing instructions would've been helpful.

I like Midna a lot her cocky attitude makes her a great character.

I'm sort of stuck in the forest dungeon after I save the Monkey's boyfriend and go back into the original room I don't know where to go.

Holly ****ing shit. Thats all i have to say. I am one of the few people that didnt like OOT that much. That said, this is more of an OOT secuel than anything else. It is so widely expanded. so perfectly crafted in every sense, that it makes it- in my eyes- the perfect realization of the OOT concept.

WW was to me LLTP realized in 3d until it became apparent it was rushed. This is OOT realized to me, and it is the first game since probably mario 64 where i believe R&D achieved that "polished to perfection" status. it SHOWS that they had all the time they wanted to implement everything they wanted perfectly. Wow.

Artisticly, i wont add to other's comments. The presentation is sublime. It starts very OOTish and as soon as you step into the Twilight realm it becomes its own game, filled with artistic bliss, and detail (LOVE midnas voice sound, for example). Any fears of it being "sterile" in comaprison to WW banished right the second Midna and the wold appear. Its brilliant. and also, the wiimote adds A LOT to the experience. It makes things quite a bit fresh. the aiming is precise and subtle things like the speaker add tons to the overall feeling of "newness". It quite frankly seems tailor made, if it where not for somewhat of a complicated and confusing menu navegation issues i have (though its minor).

I can already tell this will be one of my top games ever. Holly shit im pumped. =]

edit: oh. also. **** u. 8.8 my ass. thats all.

I haven't felt this way about a game since Chrono Trigger.

Oh, I mentioned to the Wii line at Wal-Mart that Gamespot gave it an 8.8. Much laughter.

I'm counting on my Wal-Mart or my EB to get a new shipment in either tomorrow or Tuesday (according to them...) so that's when I'll be able to play it. :D

I caved and watched that freaky scene. I'm in awe. This seriously looks like the best game of all time.

Pre 2nd Dungeon help needed

Ok wtf. This bridge battle is ridiculous. How do you win? There's no way to hit the guy, and you can't even target onto him. Any help?

The game is great so far (just reached the first dungeon), but Jesus, they really could've thrown in a couple of dialogue lines explaining how to fish with the bobber.

I remember reading how to beat him.
On the bridge on the way towards him, get all the way on one side, and just as your about to collide, switch over to the opposite side of the bridge. Make sure you have enough time and space to do so, cause he might still hit you off. While doing this, slash him.

need some first dungeon help.

i'm trying to save a monkey that's down in a basement. i have the gale boomerang, and besides me and the monkey, which is sitting in a cage on top of a little plateau in the middle of the room, there's a bomb insect on ground level with me. i'm presuming i need to use the boomerang to toss the bomb insect up to break the cage, but it's not working.

assistance much appreciated!

edit: nevermind, i got it. from now on i promise to think in three dimensions

Yo, did you got a Wii right? Whats your friend code?

this game is fun and all, but it reminds me of OOT... in a bad way. :( those cables ought to help. also, these wolf segments are way too similar to Okami thus far, which isn't so good, since Okami does it better.

Ok, so I got chills when
an OoT ocarina song was reinvented as a wolf-howl song...
So awesome.

Beautiful, breathtaking game. Really digging the puzzle solving thus far, and the amount of polish the controls received has made playing this game all the more enjoyable.

So far, I am absolutely blown away. Btw, finished up the 1st dungeon at 5:55 hours, and about to forge ahead!

anyone experienced any problems with the game not registering sword motions properly? maybe this is highly dependable on your sensor bar setup/settings?

btw, i have 2 copies of zelda but not wii :/

btw any of you have read this

is basically some guy trying to justify the zelda score

Since I know people are upset about the review (which is odd considering how few people have played this game at the moment), I figured I'd share some opinions based on playing through the first five hours or so of the game.

It's the same damn game we've all been playing for the last 15-odd years. Hey, guess what? You get to go into dungeons...and find items...and put together pieces of heart to make new heart containers. I haven't gotten very far into it, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Triforce is in the mix at some point.

There's a difference between tradition and ossification, and Nintendo's been content to let this series stay the same for too damn long. What's more, in a lot of ways it's actually getting to be pretty annoying. The helper characters, in particular, seem to be intended to be cute, but they wind up being maddeningly insufferable. In a lot of ways, Midna, the helper character from Twilight Princess, is even worse than Tingle from Wind Waker. And I don't know whose idea it was to make the first dungeon in the game
feature a large number of monkeys that follow you around making incessent monkey noises
, but they should be shot. Most annoying. sound. ever. When you have the pointer active, it also makes a shimmering sound as you move the Wiimote around. It never ever stops making this sound, and it got so damn annoying that I simply turned the pointer off completely.

Since every game in this series is more or less the same, outside of minor details, choosing among them is more or less a matter of deciding which style suits you best. Wind Waker had, at the very least, a graphical sensibility that was unique, whereas Twilight Princess just seems...generic. For a game that plays up its theoretically realistic graphical style, it also has to do a bit better job of representing the world; it's fine that the Wii isn't as powerful as a 360 or a PS3, but at the very least it should be capable of matching the best-looking games on the GameCube.

From top to bottom, Twilight Princess is a game that was transparently designed for the GameCube and hacked to work on the Wii. The controls feel kind of shoddy in a lot of ways. I guess what disappoints me most about this game is the lack of ambition and innovation. The Wii has some promising ideas behind it, but if they're content to have their flagship title be Just Another Zelda Game(TM) then they're getting off on the wrong foot.

I guess if you like the Zelda formula, then you'll like this game. Speaking for myself, though, I can't imagine how anyone really gets excited for them anymore; the recycling of game mechanics ventured into self-parody territory years ago. I really think the series needs to take a cue from Resident Evil 4 and reinvent itself completely. Heck, even the Final Fantasy games manage to make some big changes to the series' conventions with each installation. As it is, everything about Twilight Princess, and pretty much every game in the series aside from The Adventure of Link, smacks of Nintendo being content to play it safe with their big-money series. Give me something new!

thoughts?,is he correct?

Okay, stuck right before the first dungeon.

How the hell do I get rid of the spider web at its front? Was I supposed to have all of the light things by now or something?

you use you lantern to burn away the web. if your lantern is empty of oil, hopefully you have a bottle of oil to re-fill the lantern. i had a tough time figuring this out... because i thought i had no oil, and i thought i had to go back to the guy that sells oil, but the deadly fog blocked me from going back. then i realized i had a full bottle of oil, filled the lantern and off i went.

Impressions so far:

*Start is slow but well-done, the kind that is boring if with people, perfect if you're alone
*Nintendo's seemingly innate ability to not handhold yet give subtle clues on what to do is amazing in the first area. Its odd how pleasing this is (shows a level of polish)
*I really, really like the art style
*Twilight Realm is ****ing unreal in every sense
*Its also kind of.....scary?
*Wiimote causes some camera issues initially but it seems due to me actually understanding what/how to use the damn thing. I've been improving and so is everything.
*I've died already and I'm not even to the first REAL dungeon. This game is MUCH harder then any other Zelda it seems.
*Stab move is giving me issues, maybe I'm doing it wrong
*This is far and away the prettiest game from its 'generation'
*Good lord the music

Love it so far :)

You see, I'm still a wolf. Methinks that I'm a little bit more lost than I thought.

btw, im about 7 hours in, but my 7 hours has only brought me a little way through the first dongeun. i got one small key and have been through only a few rooms. so that's probably like 2-3 hours for a decent player, shows you how slow i am.

oooooh so youve only been upto where the first dungeon is..... you have a ways to go before you actually get to enter it as Link. sorry.

The first couple of hours are sooo slow in the freakin village. Also, some of those ground textures hurt running 480i (where are you component cables) on a 46" HDTV.

But once you meet wolf link, EAD begins to kick your ass. Man, EAD could have made a kickass standalone game with the wolf and the twilight realm. F Okami =P
