Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

3.5 hours in, only at the beginning of the first dungeon. A lot of great moments already.
-Hyrule Castle takeover
-Zelda unveiling
-Golden light wolf with the knight teaching you ending blow

Midna's fantastic (great animations and dialog) and I really like the wolf mechanics. Gotta pace myself now. :)

You don't have the game?

-

I need...

1) Wii

2) TV

3) Zelda

I guess I may be able to play sometime in December but not sure

I guess I can go into the Japanese and UK threads to share the love :)

I'm surprised this topic didn't explode quicker. Are people avoiding it for fear of spoilers or is it most Gaffers don't have a Wii/the game yet?

Both for me. But I'm thankful I don't have to wait 4 months for it to release, unlike every other major console release.

Alright, just ran into a potentially game-ruining glitch :\

Need some help if any of you people who managed to get to the fourth dungeon experienced this. (there aren't any spoilers here, but I'll spoiler it just in case some people don't want to hear anything about fourth dungeon puzzles)

There's a room filled with quicksand (after you get all the poes) in which you have to avoid pop-up spikes and pull a chained gate open. Problem is, Link keeps getting stuck on the "walking in quicksand" animation, even when on solid ground, so I move far too slow to actually get past the gate before it closes. The only way to reset my walk speed is to drown in the sand and try again, but the glitch happens again anyway.

Tried rebooting console, nothing. This blows, what can I do?

Dear god, this game has perfected its tone, mood, and characters. Hell, we can even tell for once what Link's thinking. The character models are gorgeous, and have amazing 'character' as well, namely the core ones of the story. Even plot has improved from past Zelda games. Being only before the 3rd dungeon, that has plenty of time to improve as well.

I'm taking my sweet time with this. 20 hours in, still before 3rd dungeon, and
just got Zora Armor. I love these horse-riding battles.
What a game.

EDIT: And on the subject of glitches, after one time dying
at the 2nd bridge battle
, the game didn't offer me an option to retry. The unit clearly hadn't frozen though, as I simply pressed the home button and chose to reset the game. Very weird.

Loving the game so far ... however is it normal that slashes with the Wiimote arent exactly replicated? For example when I slash left, he swings left, when I slash right, he continues to swing left, I stab forward, he slashes left again ... and so on ... is there any real variety without holding down Z or B?

Nosir.

Argh damn it. I don't have any classes today, and I'm still stuck on this damn glitched puzzle.

yes, the wiimote is essemtially just a button for slashing. atm at least. don't know if any special moves are assigned to certain motions later on.

ahh, I see thanks. I can kinda see where IGN was coming from when they said the game had Wiimote capabilities tacked on. It doesnt make the game worse, it just would have been amazing if the game were built ground up on Wii. Its the same story with Mario DS ... its Mario 64 with touch screen tacked on.

IGN didn't say that, they said the controls added to the experience. Gamespot said some features were tacked-on.

Sense.

All I know is that the only way I'll play this on Cube is if something happens to my Wii console and I absolutely cannot play the Wii version.

I'm just getting started. I met Epona. I was wondering why they removed the carrots boost system. I prefered it.

Also, I'm not sure what I think of the Navy cursor always being on the screen. It annoys me a bit. I suppose I'll get used to it.

I didn't think I'd consider this a minus but voice acting would have been nice. The written speech seems out of place with the rest of the presentation which is magnificent so far.

i reckon i read somewhere about being able to turn it off... any gaffers know the answer? i'd help... but 15 more days till i get a wii!

I only played for 5 hours and just started the first dungeon but of course I am in love. The amount of stuff you do before you even get into a dungeon is amazing, and its all fast paced action.

I LOVE the wiimote, I have no idea how I will ever play a Zelda game with a gamepad ever again. This is the way to play games, with your hands free and real aiming. The sword mechanics work great for me. So far the enemies are a bit brain dead (more so than most Zelda enemies) which is sad.

I don't have component cables so the game looks like total garbage on my TV but I see the beauty in art design. I just need those cables...

So yeah its Zelda, nothing crazy has happend yet but I can't wait to get home and start it up again.

I haven't done it, but in the options screen there is a place to turn the pointer off... I guess that would be the only one that would turn off navi

yeah, it turns off Navi, but it also turns off the "pointer" functions in the menu, which are sorta useless, but also turns off remote aiming, which I like. pretty much just removes all waggle functionality. wish you could just ****ing turn off that SOUND a;lskfjsf

man i wish i could turn off sword waggling instead... aiming is the one waggle function that actually works amazing :lol

One reviewer said that the swordplay seemed gimmicky early on, but after you get further into the game that changes a lot

I don't get the complaints of the sword controls. I mean at the end of the day it still works perfectly (even though it could have been done with a button).

The only thing I want that is missing is the control of the camera with the second analog stick. You don't need it for combat, but it is something really convenient when exploring dungeons. This is the one complaint I have with the game (only like 2 hours in and at least 15 minutes were wasted in figuring out how to catch fish).

I also don't get the complaints on the graphics. Yeah it isn't HD, but it looks so nice I ended up not really caring after awhile.

Doesn't it disappear if you don't aim at your screen?

I hadn't noticed the navi sound in the zelda videos until i read about it on GAF.

...once you hear it you can't unhear it! I don't have the game though, but I can imagine how that can be annoying as hell.

Xrenity: the cursor stays on the edge of the screen, it never disappears.

Haha..

It's not a glitch. Thats all I will say. :)

Wow, I'm not nearly as far along as I thought I would be by now. Eight and a half hours in, and JUST beat the first dungeon. I guess I'm going to be one of the 70 hour people.

FANTASTIC game. Like others said, it starts off a little slow. But when it picks up, it's breathtaking. So far this everything I hoped a modern Zelda could be and then some. Suprises around every corner, both with story and the gameplay.

There was already a moment where I thought "WHOA, I can't believe I just saw THAT in a Zelda game. That was brutal!"

I like the slow start, even if the pacing was quicker I would have taken it slow anyway. I liked trying to get used to the Wii controls.

I must say that Midna is one of the most fascinating characters in a video game that I've ever seen. She is so funny and captivating.

Midna is a cool character, yea. I look forward to learning more about her.

I'm just past the Forest Temple and I'm loving the game. The slow pace in the beginning worked well to get you adjusted to the new controls, but once you hit the first dungeon, the game really comes into it's own. Don't really have any complaints at all so far, it's defintely been worth the wait.

I didnt expect to get a Game Over screen so early either. I laughed when I died :lol

CAn;t you turn the volue on the speaker down?

yes you can, go into the options screen ... I think its (+) and look down toward the bottom of the screen ... there should be some options to adjust rumble and the controller speaker ... it got annoying for me too ;)

just to emphasize, while sword slashing feels a little tacked on, for me it still adds a level of immersion, and the spin slash on the nunchuk is just downright necessary. aiming is dead on also. overall I wouldn't say the controls feel tacked on. while sword slashing could definitely be done with a button, the spin slash and aiming are both heads above what the gamecube version will be able to do. I'll take "meh sword slashing" any day of the week when it comes with the nunchuk circle slash and remote aiming.

in regards to the problems with fishing:

So ive been stuck for literally an hour, and i figured it out. Is where i was using the rod. you should do it where the cat is, behind the watermill house, but BE SURE TO CAST THE ROD IN PROFOUND WATERS- that is, to the left of the two columns. I was doing it in the middle of the columns, or in their proximity, but the water seems to be to low there.

when i changed the casting location, BAM! got two of them instantly.

Hope it helps.

10 hours in, loving the game. Controls are fantastic. Aiming is great, spin on nunchuck is great, sword swings are okay, coulda been a button but the visceral feel of having to actually shake your controller is more interesting than pressing a button. My wrists are fine, too. Kinda like Jungle Beat, did you really need the bongos? Not really, no. But it made you physically put yourself in the game. Some hated it, but I loved it. Some real sword controls for the next game would be nice though.

I hate the stupid loud fairy icon though. I do just stick it in a corner and try not to trigger the sensor bar, but when you have to switch to aim it sometimes takes a while for the sensor to detect the remote. But I'm playing just a few feet away from the tv, so maybe that's it. Tiny apartment, nothing I can do about that.

I just got
the tunic.
I am loving the controls, but my left wrist is actually a little sore. I think I'm getting into the spin attack a bit too much.

I have not played Zelda yet, but in the case of DKJB you do need the bongos in my opinion. You might not need them had EAD gone with a different regular controller setup, but the one they used is completely useless and you need the bongos.
Just a comment ;-) I don't want to derail the thread. I guees I needed any lame excuse to post in this thread while I'm eurozeldawaiting :-(

Enjoy the game guys, give as euro and gamecube crew more impressions and no spoilers.

But the bongos are basically just two big buttons.

I started playing it at 2:00 yesterday and stopped at 9:00pm that same day. I am right outside the Second Dungeon.
I won't get to play again till wendsday since the lady that I live with doesn't like joy in my life.
:(

So far, there is ALOT of action in this game. The pacing is amazing with lots of things to do. Riding the horse through Hyrule Field is one of the coolest feelings ina video game not involving anything in particular.

Though some people say this game is hard. I haven't died yet. When you're a wolf, just you digg with sense and BAM! Health littered all over(under) the ground. ;)

Yeah, actually I do agree with your comment about the physical involvement adding to the experience in that game. I played the game from start to finish and felt a bit exhausted but I loved it.
I just meant that in the terms of two different controls being different but both good (which was nto your point), that game is not a good example, while Zelda probably is.

I'm mid-way through the second dungeon so far, taking my time and loving every minute of it.

One thing that kinda disappoints me though...there are only
3 people living in Kakariko? :lol I understand the people were 'driven out', but still...

I'm hoping that more
people show up later or something?

I started a 2nd game, this time, I arrived at the start of the Forest Temple in just under 3 hours, whereas it took me around 7 hours to reach it the first time. so I improved by more than 2x in speed.

I'm still not even at the Forest Temple midboss. i only had 1 or maybe 2 small keys. I really didn't want to blow the game wide open until I have component cables, but these suckers are impossible to find now.

I cant find this game anywhere *sigh*

I'll have a wii and no zelda :(
