Sigh, I really wanna pick up this game after watching trailers and this thread for the last month or two ... but I know for a fact I won't have the time to play it. Which brings to mind - how's the save option in this game? Is it instant anywhere? Or one specific save point? Or multiple in certain locations?

You can only save at the castle, but getting there is pretty quick, since later in the game, you get the option to warp there from certain spots.

i remember the first thing in the game that made me just stop, make a very shocked face and just sit and stare at the text. i was talking to one of my grunts, and they declared themselves a proud member of the "SOS Brigade" and that they would work hard.

I then blurted out: "Did they just make a fucking Haruhi reference?" and continued to laugh.

something else i noticed is that the men can get many wives, but the women all seem to only have one husband. i also see this mirrored in their ruler. MISOGYNISTIC POLYGAMY FTW!

anyway, i want to make a post detailing the epic battle i partook with a
UFO UMA
and the entire troop of archers i created to battle it for the new page.

edit: aw crap, it IS the new page...

Pretty sure? I got a message saying I failed a mission. I don't know how I would re-accept it, maybe I'm not looking in the right place in the Suggestion Box?

I think you can warp there anytime, if you're outside of your current city limits. Just press + to bring up the menu, and then press "2" to warp to the castle. I do it all the time. You get to keep your spoils and everything.

is that ear poison in your pocket? what the fuck are you doing with ear poison? i don't have a son to avenge my death if you're going to go that route. though it's kind of odd i don't have an heir yet. seven wives and many likely mistresses, and i STILL got nothing. maybe i'm infertile...

Hmm, I never got a failed message. Weird.

Maybe the quest comes back later? I can't imagine that they'd never let you try again.

Is it just me or does anyone else accidentally change their troops job by sending them in a job house thinking it's an actual house? I usually do it from faraway so I can't see the sign. I should really get closer.

Yeah lol

I remember when some journalists were complaining that you had to trek all the way back to your kingdom, when all you had to do is get the menu out and press 2 when you're within your kingdom's stretch.

Certain quests have time limits actually. I found this out the hard way. If you check your quest map, some quests will say something like, "3 Days Left." The ones that don't have time limits are the boss fights that end up spreading your kingdom. The one to two star missions that ask you to fight some underling like the Pickle Gangster have time limits.

Do they ever come back around? Like mail for the same quest?

ITs "life over" instead of the classic game over...

Anyway, beated 99% (only miss life 5 "songs" from that quest) and still stand corrected, best Wii game since Super Mario Galaxy.

I'm not sure if you can get them back. I haven't really played much since I last failed a mission, so I can't say if the mission is coming back just yet. I do know however, that if you decide to cancel a mission that you've accepted, the game will warn you that you won't ever be able to take the mission again, so I'm really not too sure.

Those missions are random, so if you miss them another one will show up, so don´t worry...

Anyway, is it true that the US version has a new difficulty and some other extras?

If you finished the game, in what difficulty you played it?
I finished on normal.

EDIT: btw, did you guys noticed a bunch of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" references? Check the inventory after collecting some of the princess quests, one of them even reference the "restaurant at the end of the universe"... its quite cool actually.

i think i'll start a LKS golden comments collection here and now. the game is just littered with them, and some of them are too good to be thrown at the wind. here's my first contribution:

'global imperialism for the win!'
- a grunt in a chatting with the king, while being on guard.

also, does anybody else find Howser's behaviour and motives utterly satirical? i mean, his 'service' of exchanging all the actual treasures you collect for 'bol'.. what did he ride again? ; )

edit: quotation corrected.

So I was talking to one of my Miners and he said:

"Princess Apricot is so kind. She let me lick it."

WHAT? So I pressed A for the next set of dialog and he said.

"Her lollipop is so delicious!"

I'm beginning to think there is a lot of undertone in this game.

It becomes more and more apparent as you go on through the game, despite the art style, it's one of the more mature games out there. I can't think of a child that will be able to enjoy the content of the game to the extent adults can (even if the content is a bit childish like the above).

Every piece of dialogue in the game is part of a psychological war against you. I swear to god. It reminds me of the emails you get in Pikmin 2, only far more cruel than funny.

this game is slowly becoming my favourite game on the wii. i have a big smile on my face just from walking around in my "kingdom".
it feels like animal crossing + pikmin + etrian odyssey to me. a dream game comes true indeed. the only thing i wish it had is pointer control, it would make things so much easier particularly in situations where you have to target one enemy out of a bunch, and when you want to regroup a number but not all of the royal guards.

Definitely. In fact, I've been spelling out the names of the fan letters I've been getting and so far I spelled out
spanking
. All of this is definitely intentional. A child won't notice any of this so it makes it worse for us when we realize what they're doing.

It's almost like the 2001: A Space Oddessey of video games. :lol

This game is aaaawesome. I definately feel the Harvest Moon vibe, which is great, because that is one of my favorite gaming series ever. Addictive, simple fun (simple once you know what the hell you are doing... took me forever to figure out how to find more gold the first couple of days). The humor and charm is great too. Finally have a reason to play my Wii again :D

See, aren't you glad you blew the 50 bucks on this game?

Huh, no clue what that is. I'll research it later or something.

But yeah, I noticed the fan letters' spelling first thing. It was one of the first signs I noticed something is going on with the game.
People who go through the game a certain way will view it as a kid friendly adventure full of charm, others will see it as one of the hardest games to swallow mentally.

I'm starting to repeat myself here, in any case, so I guess I'm out of that discussion.

Yeah, that was my problem as well. I never ran out of warm bodies to throw at him.

Shishekaboo was the boss I had most trouble with.
You could always lower the difficulty level.

It's a good thing I have a huge backlog of games that can keep me busy until I get the money and hopefully by that time the price will drop

Very much so :D

I just beat the second boss, and so I went out exploring the area since the UMA are supposed to disappear after you kill the boss, yet a bunch of Onii appeared anyway and I got buttraped because I just had a bunch of farmers.

Speaking of which, what is the best strategy to take out Onii when there are several together in a group? When they are scattered about it makes it easy to pick them off, but when they are together I just randomly fling all of my dudes towards their general direction and they all end up dying and then I'm left to clean up the mess with my Royal Scepter of Ass-Kicking

I just married my first pair of villagers. They didn't have the heart indicator as was mentioned (when does that appear?) instead I discovered it through the little news ticker tape that pops up at the beginning of each new day. I found both, grabbed them and winged them at the church. Both entered and then a little cinematic played out in which the church bells rang, they stepped out in and a stork flew by diving-bombing a jar, that had a child in it, at their feet.

Once the first two of mine fell in love cupid has been in the air. It usually happens when I'm out exploring to a couple that was out with me.

If you head back to your territory after a day in the field and dismiss your Royal Guard there's a good chance the news ticker will pop-up and say that two of your citizens have fallen in love.

yeah I sent my whole royal guard into a house, only to realize it was the Lumberjack building. Then, as I was trying to correct that, I sent them all into a Florist house :(

Okay, I just beat the first King, and I have a few more questions.

How do you get Animal Hunters? I read in an online strategy for the first king that they are helpful to use, but I didn't see any options to build a workplace to train them.

Secondly, one of the first side quests I accepted was about a Guardian Frog in Upchuck forest, but I've searched all the available areas to me and have no clue where he is.

EDIT: Also, I'm browsing through a walkthrough on gamefaqs, and its recommending specific sidequests and powerups at the stage in the game that I'm at... the only problem is that they aren't available to me yet! Do I just need to wait and they will eventually come through my suggestion box, or are there things I need to do to trigger certain events and sidequests?

You get Hunters by beating the Frog who is right next to where the Graveyard use to be.

Anyway, stupid Giant Mushroom down. 0 deaths.

The game is probably going to tank, unfortunately. Probably for the same reason that Zack & Wiki did. :(

Man, if I were rich, I'd open a company that advertises good games from small developers like this one. :(
You'd be poor in no time - a game like this will never sell gangbusters, regardless of advertising. Which is kind of sad of course.

in between their attacks, send your lumberjack or miner (depending on obstacle), and then have him alone break down the stuff. once the ring guys break their orbit, they're pretty easy prey for soldiers. i can't remember beating them the first time. i sent the archers after them, and it didn't do anything, but when i sent the grunts, they fell just like the rest of the onii i've massacred. meanwhile, Larry the Onii stands in shocked silence as i systematically eradicate his race. HUMANITY! THE MASTER RACE! VON DER VATERLAND!

...
That doesn't make any sense...at all.

ShockingAlberto said:

Try to send your guard into church after an excursion anyway. In my case sometimes they were married although I didn't get any message beforehand.
