FWIW, Jasoco says CS3 works fine in SL, Photoshop CS3 has been tested in SL and only has two minor issues, and Adobe only said what they said because they don't like supporting software they no longer sell.TheWiicast said:I was super excited for this until I read that Cteative Suite CS3 might not be fully compatable with snow leopard. Should I get 10.6 or not? I'm running 10.5 without all the flashy stuff like translucency in the menubar and 3D in the dock as is! I'm a former Comptia A+ Cert Tech (need to renew soon actually, once I get more fmiliar with Windows 7 for my own personal sake), but I still feel conflicted. Can the hardware handle a 3rd OS revision? She is slowing down, and warming up, even after new fans and fresh Arctic Silver on the CPU. Adding more RAM is not an option. Maybe it's time to put her out to pasture...
[IMG]http://i32.tinypic.com/10pwtbl.jpg
On the other hand, the OS is supposed to be slimmer as-is. If I were to get rid of all the flashy stuff and streamline it, I could enjoy the benefits that 10.6 offers right now without having to sacrifice performance. Fans at 6k RPM would be tolerable over time.
Get 10.6, or rough it up and save the money for a successor to the aging beast...
I know what I want, I know I can't have my cake and eat it too. The obvious answer might be to just rough it out, but I know there are also some of you that think that if you can squeeze more life out of something, you should.
If you were in my position, what would you do? Foolish to say, I've kinda grown quite fond of the old lappy, twas my first. It still feels new to me, I treat her right.
1) Do it; my CPU's only .16 GHz faster and I bought it. Oh wait, you only have a Core Duo. I'd still get it.
2) Holy shit, update your fucking Leopard. There have been two revisions already; we're up to 10.5.8. Why the hell do people not run Software Update? It pops up weekly for you when there's something.
169 USD last time I checked. I know Mossberg says that you can apparently do a clean install without even having anything 10.5 related on disc or otherwise, but the license is still that of an upgrade, is it not? The "ethical dilemma" (for lack of better words) comes up.Killthee said:Its $30 bucks......do it.

It's $30 since you're coming from 10.5, as iterated a million times in this thread and even in the first post.HUELEN10 said:169 USD last time I checked. It is also not just about the money, it's about actually running it on this hardware.

It turns out that the Photoshop team has tested Photoshop CS3 on Snow Leopard, and to the best of our knowledge, PS CS3 works fine on Snow Leopard.
---------------------------------
When we say that we officially support a specific OS, you can trust that we've done very extensive testing on that platform. If we haven't done that level of testing, then we simply won't say that we support it. That's why the FAQ reads as it does.
That said, none of us like to inconvenience customers, so the reality is that we *do* actually perform some amount of testing on older product if we believe that there are a significant number of customers using it. So does Apple.
As I say, we have reason to expect that all meaningful issues of running Photoshop CS3 under Snow Leopard have been resolved. However, because we have not done the level of testing that true certification demands, we need to stand by our statement that we don't officially support CS3 on Snow Leopard.
Uh, you have Leopard. There's no ethical dilemma here.HUELEN10 said:169 USD last time I checked. Well I do hope so. I have yet to use 10.6 in any form, but while 10.5 was great, it was much slower than Tiger. I had to really optimize how it ran by disabling certain features in order to get comparable performance. The boot time was lower though, that's always a good thing! CNET's tests kinda scared me TBH...panda21 said:what on earth are you talking about? you have a pretty good machine, it only costs $30, and if anything it will run much more efficiently than leopard.
I know that, I know. I'm not doing an upgrade install though. I'm getting a new WD HDD and doing it fresh! The question is "does the licensing of the 29 USD upgrade pak allow for a clean install"? We know it is possible, but is it "allowed"?Phobophile said:It's $30 since you're coming from 10.5, as iterated a million times in this thread and even in the first post.
But the install won't be an upgrade. As I said, I used the aforementioned term very loosely.mrkgoo said:What ethical dilemma? You HAVE 10.5.
I'm not disabling anything. I might put in another GB of RAM since it's only $30 for a 2 GB stick. The only thing I know I won't be able to run is OpenCL since my Radeon X1600 isn't compliant.HUELEN10 said:1. Are you gonna turn off any fancy schmancy features like I tend to do? Just wondering.

What? The license doesn't restrict you from doing a clean install. Go use Disk Utility to your heart's desire. But the install won't be an upgrade. As I said, I used the aforementioned term very loosely.

Nack notes that only two minor issues remain that his Photoshop team is aware of: window highlight rings in Exposé and text field nudging in Japanese versions of Snow Leopard.
Same. I have a C2D MBP and the jump from Tiger to Leopard was amazing. My system went from unbearable to exceptional.panda21 said:i'm curious as to what you are talking about with performance issues as well.. do you use some really memory/cpu hogging stuff like photoshop or something all the time?
because i've used leopard with all the features on machines only slightly better specced than yours and not noticed anything wrong with it.

Let's just say VERY HIGH.mrkgoo said:What are the odds of a broken street date?

just install 10.6 for 30 bucks. it'll make your core duo machine a bit faster, you get a little disk space back and you can move on with your life!
