i had new mexico in the elite 8. i wouldn't say i'm fucked in the bracket i'm in but puts a little damper on an otherwise decent day! i had 13/16 right!

Its based on total yardage. It always gets skewed when people start having byes, but evens out again at the end of the season. Its still a shitty metric for judging performance.

Sounds like a simpler F2P Magic the Gathering, simplified and uses WoW characters. As someone who doesn't play Magic (or Ascension), I'm definitely interested in seeing what Hearthstone is like. I'd like a simpler, easier to consume version of those games.
Have you played Thunderstone at all? I liked the online version of that a lot.
Described to me as "a little bit of both" - you can build your own deck and have the game auto build you a deck

Taking a glance at it, it's not a deckbuilding game in the way you're thinking. You can buy booster packs.
