NFL really screwed up by not sending the Steelers over there. If the British saw Big Ben in the flesh I guarantee that within a week every kid in England would threw their old world football and cricket bat into the garbage can and replace it with an American football and Big Ben jersey.
... Why not just send a real man and send Peyton? Watching "big ben" get sacked would be pretty lame :/ They would start hating their clock.

While Peyton is the greatest mortal quarterback playing in the game today, he is still a mortal and would do nothing to educate the ignorant masses as to the glory of the one and true football.

Ben on the other hand is a supernatural being delivered to man by God himself to protect the game from evil. And remember that Ben beat down on the Colts in Indy two years ago in what some are calling the greatest game ever played.

Peyton is certainly a great man for knocking Brady out of the playoffs and shall be remembered for that along with other heroes such as Jake Plummer.

I could see those Brits liking Big Ben for some reason.

haha I love how you say the glory of the one and true football. Its soo true. I love soccer. But its not football.

I need a smokin seahawks avatar for the season. I got NO skillz can someone hook me up?

I know some of you will poke fun and stuff but there's gotta be someone out there that can help!

I work in downtown Indy and thought I'd take a stroll around the circle (Monument Circle) to see what's up for tonight's NFL season kickoff festivities. Here's a pic of the stage where they're having tonight's Kelly Clarkson/Faith Hill/Hinder "I'd rather be dead than watch this" concert.

The NFL has made it a royal pain in the ass to get around down there, as the street portion of three of the four "spokes" into the circle are limited to sidewalk foot traffic only. There are a lot of people down there now, but I suspect it will be absolutely packed later on. The highlight was the Coors Light "train" they have set up and packed with hot girls (sorry, no pics, it was fairly cramped quarters inside).

Can't wait for the game tonight. Not expecting my Colts to repeat, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

So my girlfriend (who I live with) wanted to have her out of town mom and friend over tonight. They don't watch football. I told her having three women talking next to me, about things other than football, would make me absolutely insane. Am I a bad person? Or someone who clearly has their priorties straight?

Stephen A. vs. Skip Bayless is like a black hole for intelligence.

Haha that was soo frustrating to watch. I'm from Philadelphia, and it is terrible to read Stephen A in the paper or see him on local TV shows. I usually like Skip, but he wasn't especially on his game today. I'll give him a pass and say Stephen A brought the worst out in him.

Since I believe you are a Colts fan, you have your priorities straight. Tell her they can come over if they stay outside.

That was a bad "second hand" joke. "Face" the facts, it's "time" for some new material. But don't take it personally, I'm not trying to get you "wound" up. Even if you are a little "cuckoo."

Give her some money and tell her to go out with her mom and friend.

Win / Win

Nah, she's not even angry. She understands my unholy love of football. I just don't think most guys would kick their girlfriend's mother out so they could watch football in peace.

Zesty, I'm a Niners fan. Even a Browns/Bucs game gets priority, though.

Skip has a hard on for Steve Nash and so do I.

My man crushes are in this order

Chase Utley > MJD > Nash

Skip's hardly great, but he is usually the best one on that show and he'll go against a lot of conventional media/ESPN wisdom which I appreciate but I know he's no more correct than any of them.

I don't know if anyone gives a shit, but here is another shot of the circle from my office. The stage is on the far side. It's too bad I'll be in class when things get going.

I understand. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be consistently more wrong than ESPN.

Saw some interesting stats in today's USA Today that I was not aware of--something perhaps for all of us to pay very close attention to over the coming week?

Path to Playoffs starts in season opener

Winning season openers is often a harbinger of making the playoffs. Since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978, teams that win openers are more than twice as likely to make the playoffs. Also:

Of the 410 teams that won their openers, 216 went to the playoffs (53%) and 123 won divisional titles.

Of the 410 teams that lost their openers, 96 went to the playoffs (23%) and 54 won divisional titles.

Last season, 9 of 12 playoff teams won their season opener.

So basically, if your team loses you're fucked and if they win, then you have a good chance and can remain confident until at least halfway through the season. :lol Giants-Cowboys Sunday night became that much more interesting to watch now.

Pussy is pussy. Priorities would be in order.

Damn, 2 former Bruins in there. I have to say we're becoming fast friends. Now if only you'd do something about your love of Old Man Canada.

the guy next to me in the library probably also has a hard-on for Scarlett Johannson. Just because we get erections for the same people doesn't mean I like him.

no one can ever justify liking skip bayless. i'm sorry.

Haha Utley is a stud. If only Freddie Mitchell another Bruin didn't let me down... He was the Sultan of the Slot though. But it takes more than a 4th and 26th for me to love him - unless we won the super bowl that year.

Good luck with that. :lol

It's worse than that, of course. 24 of the 32 teams - including most of the popular picks to do well this year - are currently on a losing streak.

If it helps, Big Ben isn't a clock.

I can't get over all the Espn talkin heads saying this will be a shoot out.... They are jinxing the game it is going to come down to the toughest player on the field. The kicker...Damn you Espn, may you be haunted by visions of Nicole Bass with the voice of Joe Theisman.

Niners are on a one game winning streak!

The Vikings bandwagon leaves at 12:00 Sunday. Don't think you chumps will be able to snipe a seat in late January!

lol gtfo of here dude. fucking antonio bryant tore his sorry ass up last year. i bet djax is lickin' his chops for this year against tye mound

tye hill wasnt a starter in the first game, i think he was the dime back at the time. AB beat atogwe for that long TD. bryant didnt do jack shit in the 2nd game, besides 2 catches against our prevent D. nice try tho!

4 rec, 90 yds, 1 TD

If Smith considers that being "shut down," I can't wait to see what he does when he feels like he tears up Hill.

3 rec, 28 yards vs tye hill. i consider that "shut down" under any circumstances. tye hill wasnt even on the same side of the field on smiths td catch.

If the Texans fans weren't being cheerfully optimistic I'd say no but since they are have at it.

Everyone talk your shit now, but 1-0 is 1-0 and after Sunday that will be the Texans record.

As long as the Texans are winning I don't give a fuck where Bush or Young are playing. So everyone can bring up their names as much as they want, doesn't matter to me.

My last minute picks:

Saints at Colts
Eagles at Packers

Panthers at Rams
Steelers at Browns
Falcons at Vikings
Chiefs at Texans
Titans at Jaguars
Dolphins at Redskins

IRVING, Texas - Three days before their regular-season opener, the Cowboys learned wide receiver Terry Glenn's problematic right knee will force him to miss the entire 2007 season, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said late Thursday afternoon.

He's going to need microfracture knee surgery, but he's 33 and not Amare Stoudamire.

Another Setback
Glenn Likely Out At Least 2 Weeks With Knee Injury

IRVING, Texas - Three days before their regular-season opener, the Cowboys learned wide receiver Terry Glenn's problematic right knee likely will force him to miss two weeks and possibly more, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said late Thursday afternoon.

Glenn missed all of preseason after having arthroscopic knee surgery Aug. 1 to remove a tiny cyst from the back of his right kneecap. The 33-year-old receiver returned to practice Wednesday but sat out Thursday because of what Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips described as swelling in his knee.
Without Glenn, the Cowboys would have to rely even more on Terrell Owens, fourth-year veteran Patrick Crayton and second-year veterans Sam Hurd and Miles Austin. Crayton started all four preseason games in Glenn's place, with Hurd entering the lineup in three-receiver sets.
The Cowboys also have rookie Isaiah Stanback, but the fourth-round pick is more of a developmental player making the transition from college quarterback.
