Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens wasted no time in building the pre-game hype surrounding this week's upcoming matchup with fellow superstar wide receiver Randy Moss and the Oakland Raiders. Dubbed a matchup of the NFL's two finest wide receivers by many, Moss has a long history of brushing off Owens as a threat to the throne. On his radio show in Miami, Owens decided he'd have enough of Moss's disrespect.
"He says he's a better athlete than me? I can beat him at anything. Name a sport, I'll bet you I'm better at it. Be it football, basketball, bowling, track...I do them all at a higher level than he could even dream of."
"He's always saying how he's dominating with his athleticism and I'm not...where's his 9.02 100? (yard dash) I won the event two years in a row at Superstars. If he seriously thinks he's faster than me, we can race before the start of the game. All the procedes will go to the 'Derek Smith Make-a-Tackle foundation.'"
Moss got wind of Owens' comments today during a practice session and offered a little smack talk of his own.
"Just look at the numbers. Look at the big plays. I dominate on the field in ways that he could only dream of. I don't care about his 100 time, his 40 time, what his bowling average is...he don't see the type of coverages I see. I make corners like Ken Lucas and Charles Woodson look like Ahmed Plummer. I don't need no All-World quarterback to throw me the football to put up big numbers."
Truth be told, Owens led all NFL wideouts in receptions of 40+ yards last season. In what is shaping up to be an interesting matchup, Owens and Moss just added more energy.
