It would make up for the battle we were supposed to have for the 5th ring back in 94 if you guys didn't let the freaking Chargers win the AFC championship that year.

The Steelers didn't have a qb back then. Niner fans were spoiled by Young and Montana and hell even Garcia for a long time, but I am sure they can now sympathize with that these days.

FrenchMovieTheme said:
true it would be battle for the 6th ring, but only 1 team in the 5 superbowl winners club is undefeated in superbowls. only one team managed to show up for the biggest game of the year everytime they went!
That is a stat that would change very quickly if they get to the SB again this year. JTO would piss his pants the first time he saw James Harrison coming right for him.

lol JTO was sacked 8 teams by the seachickens who arguably have better LB's than the steelers (i think julian peterson is better than any LB the steelers have).

JTO hasn't had deer in the headlights yet, and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would. you'll see once we are on national TV!

as far as a pure runner, AD probably takes the cake right now.

but if you figure in the other factors in playing rb like pass protection and catching the ball, i dont think he is in the top 5.

just depends on what you're talking about. i think the best pure runner is AP, best blocker in the passing game is marion barber, best receiver is brian westbrook, etc.

if you say someone is a top rb you should take into consideration all things!

No one has watched the Titans this year? Chris Johnson is a top 5 RB. Chris Johnson is better than LT right now. I'm putting him at the top after three games!

Harrison is a pretty big beast actually. I don't think he can keep it up for much longer (he is already 30), but he makes life tough for qbs.

The Steelers are one of the few defenses that can cover the pass well, pressure the qb, and stop the run (assuming they are healthy). They aren't the best at any one thing, but they are balanced and tough to score on.

Edit: And if JTO can stand in the pocket without becoming a pussy and throw accurately he meets all of my qualifications to be a successful NFL qb.

My order goes like this:

1: LT. He does everything great (even passing!). He has a slow start going but ill attribute that to his injury.
2: Brian Westbrook. Might be a little biased but he is great. Great Pass protector, Great Runner, And the best catching RB in the league.

After this it gets a little fuzzy

3. Frank Gore/SJax: Ill cop out and give a tie to these too. Both are all around great players. I think Jax will get better as the year goes on. Injures are a concer but he had like 1600/800 a few years back. i dont chalk that up to luck

5. Marion Barber: If he can do it as a starter this year like he did as a back up last year, then he moves up to #3 on my list. i need to see consistency before i put him in the top 3. and i do think he can do it

AP is just out of the top 5. if he can get the pass protection and his receiving skills down then he would knock Gore or Jax out of the top 5. He reminds me of what Westbrook could have been if he were a bit taller and a bit bigger.

Clinton Portis SHOULD be in the top 5. he is actually one of my favorite running backs to watch when he gets space. He has all the tools to be a top 3 RB but the injury factor really hurts him

lol wtf is happening in st louis. bulger is saying he refuses to play for lienehan now, jackson says he and teammates "disagree" with the benching and that lienehan will have a talk with him shortly.

how is scotty not fired yet? i don't understand what he is bringing to the table. i know you dont want to fire a headcoach this early in the season, but the rams are seriously headed towards 3-13 if they dont make the change now. not that i care, i hope they go 0-16, but im just sayin!

Linehan will be fired Monday morning. Lock.

Regarding the RB debate... I'm not sure how you can leave ADP out of the top 5. That's nonsense.

he should have been fired at the bye week last season. but really sjax should just stfu and play, bulger's been horrible for awhile now.

Peterson has receiving ability. Just because he doesn't have the rep yards Westbrook or Tomlinson may, he's still a very good receiver. Better than Barber for sure.

can't believe you've actually just spun 8 sacks into a good thing.

it's a horrible thing for our offensive line. but it showed what JTO was made of. he wasn't flinching, he wasn't throwing off his back foot. even after 8 sacks (and probably should have been 12) he was still stepping into his throws and delivering the ball accurately while being hit. how is that not a positive?

p.s. martz is really working out horribly for us just like you said. frank gore only had 27 rushes against the lions and our offense is in shambles :(

Steelers have better safeties though who won't give up so many easy shitty long balls.

our pass defense is #1 in the NFC. i dont think we've given up a pass play longer than 25 yards this season. but maybe that has more to do with our CB's than safeties, because i agree that pittsburgh has better safeties

If they have the number one pass defense how on Earth did they give up 30 against the Seahawks considering that they don't have any receivers left?

Mostly on the ground, I guess. Football Outsiders have them at third in the league for pass defence, behind only Baltimore and Tennessee.

Edit: Yup, two on the ground, one defensive TD, three field goals. Hasselbeck was 18/36 for 2 INTs and 0 TDs.

Giving up 30 points behind a running game? Is there even enough time in the game for that?

Seattle scored on a 27 yard Julius Jones run.
A Gore fumble recovered for a TD
A 51 yard FG
A 38 yard FG
Duckett 1 yard run (the drive was mostly runs)
And another 32 yard FG

Hassleback was 18-36 for 189 and 2 INTs

Julius Jones ran all over them...and turnovers.

Plus, it's the NFC. ;) #1 in the NFC = 7th in the NFL. :p

3rd in the NFL, actually, as I pointed out. :p

The detail numbers suggest they're crap at defending against TEs, though.

actually according to nfl.com the ravens have the #1 pass Defense

The NFL.com stats for pass/rush defence are less than worthless. If you give up 12ypc on the ground, then they'll show you as having the best pass defence in the league, even though nobody even bothered to try to pass against you.

Uh... that's what's been stated about the Vikings D. Everyone says they have one of the worst passing Ds in the league, but that's only because for the last two years no one has been able to run against them.

Man... what's with the obsession with the 49ers win over the Seahawks in Week 2? Seattle has like no receivers due to being riddled with injuries (until Engram returns next week). The D of the 'Hawks got worn down due to Hasselbeck being unable to sustain drives with his patchwork crew of Bumpus/McMullen/Red Shirt No. 7 and San Fran got the best of them. Big whoop. It was one game. Get over it. That was TWO WEEKS AGO.

I dont think I posted my predictions

SUN, SEP 28
Minnesota at Tennessee Ill go with the home team and the better defense
Denver at Kansas City Chiefs are pathetic
San Francisco at New Orleans Probably will be a close game but ill take the home team
Arizona at NY Jets Will probably be close
Green Bay at Tampa Bay Packers have been doing pretty well with Rodgers
Atlanta at Carolina Atlanta is reminded of how bad they are
Houston at Jacksonville Houston has a history of beating the jags but Schaub has a history of just losing games
Cleveland at Cincinnati Im just basing this on who is more hopeless
San Diego at Oakland Kiffin just wants to get fired lol
Buffalo at St. Louis the Rams and Chiefs will be contenders for the #1 pick
Washington at Dallas COwboys are just better than the Redskins
Philadelphia at Chicago Toss up. Im just guessing

MON, SEP 29
Baltimore at Pittsburgh Ravens are pretty evil

Please stop capitalizing random words to make them seem like they have an emphasis.

BTW, The only reason we are talking about the Seahawk Niner game, is because the Niners are the best team on earth.

Carolina needs to get the passing game together against Atlanta this week. There should be no excuses this time around...

You're new here, let me fill you in.

Up until last year when all the Cowboy and Patriot fans came out of the woodwork, the Niners had the largest NFL fanbase on GAF. These guys aren't front runners so they post during the week rubbing shit in to fans of their rivals.

It's just the way of life here.

It is great too. FMT posts are always worth a read. :lol

I think its more that everyone talks shit about the 49ers. It seems like 98% of gaf hates the 9ers. That only excluses myself, giggle, nameless, Xian, method, and FMT. So of course when we get a win we rub it in your faces because everyone hates us.

At least we aren't bandwagon like half of the Pats/Cowgirls fans here.

Nice persecution complex. Nobody hates the niners. If you guys didn't talk about them, nobody would talk about them.

I hate the Niners for the 80s, and 2002.

And Doomsayer, you missed a couple... more like a lot of Niner fans.

I don't think I've posted here enough to know all of them. I think towards the middle of last season alot of them went on suicide watch (I know I did).

Sorry Niner brethren!
